Lenovo is known for some very high quality tablets, notebooks and desktop machines. But did you know they also have a line of very capable smartphones? Unfortunately, they currently keep their phone efforts strictly to China and a few of its surrounding neighbors. The good news is this could be changing in the near future.

According to Lenovo’s CEO Yang Yuanging, the company hopes to bring its smartphones to the US market within a year. Lenovo sees expanding its smartphone presence a major step forward.

As the PC market continues to decline, the mobile market is an important opportunity for all companies that currently rely primarily on the notebooks/desktop market. But can they break into the mobile market in a big way? Right now Lenovo is already the second-biggest smartphone maker in China, and with ultra-powerful smartphones like the Intel-powered K900, I’d say they have the potential to take their current home-market success and apply it globally.

What do you think, would you like to see Lenovo bring its phones to a market near you? Will the company be able to take on bigger plays like Samsung, Apple, Sony and HTC?

At present, there are many 7 inch Androids tablets out there for customers to choose from such as the Nexus 7, the HP Slate 7, or devices from Acer, Asus, Lenovo and countless others. Being highly portable and offering lower price tags, smaller Android tablets are becoming quite popular. And now, it appears like these new tablets will be overtaking the iPad in quarterly market share, according to estimates by Sameer Singh at Tech Thoughts.

Data suggests that 57% of the market will be taken by Android tablets while iPad will take 40% by the end of Q1. These predictions are mostly based on tablet display shipments. Of course we can’t say that these figures will be completely accurate, but analysis of the supply chain sometimes does tell us what is coming especially in the near future.

According to available data, compared to the shipments of the iPad Mini and the full-sized iPad, the shipments of 7-inch Android tablets are on the rise which might be suggesting an increasing demand for cheaper 7 inchers. Although 10-inch tablets are still popular, they don’t seem to be growing at the same rate as 7-inchers, both running Android or even Apple’s own iPad Mini. In fact the iPad Mini is also affecting the sales of the 9.7-inch iPad.

Will 7-inch Android tablets overcome Apple’s iPad in the tablet market soon, or will these predictions prove wrong? We will have to wait and see. In the meantime, you can share your thoughts on the matter.

Do you prefer iOS, Android, or maybe even Windows on a tablet? What size of display, 7 to 8 inches or 9 inches plus?

After making an appearance at CES 2013 with the IdeaPad Yoga 11S (shown above), Lenovo is reportedly planning to introduce an Android version of the convertible.

The IdeaPad Yoga 11S comes with an 1,600 x 900 IPS screen, 8GB of RAM and 128GB of SSD storage. Despite these great specs, the Yoga 11S measures only 0.68 inches thick and will run you $799 come this June.

Just in case you were wondering, Lenovo is not planning to introduce an Android-based sports car. Convertible tablets, or notebooks, typically have a screen that is connected to a keyboard. The screen is usually able to rotate 180 degrees and fold down over the keyboard, forming a tablet.

These transformers of modern technology have become more popular with the introduction of mobile operating systems (Android, iOS, Windows 8, etc). Although they may not have caught on as “the next big thing”, Lenovo is planning to build for the specialty market.

Industry sources recently told DigiTimes that “Lenovo’s planned offerings will target the Android tablet segment, meeting Intel’s previous commitment to rolling out Android-based tablets through joint efforts with Lenovo”.

Lenovo has been trying to release an Android convertible tablet since third quarter of 2012 (codenamed mfld_dv10). However, the project had been continually delayed due to iPad and Windows 8 releases.

Do convertible tablets have a place in today’s mobile market? Would you buy an Android based Lenovo convertible tablet? Let us know in the comments below.

Intel has boasted that their new Atom chips are going to be a worthy competitor, but we’ve not seen any proof of their new chips in action. Until now, that is. Lenovo’s IdeaPhone K900 comes equipped with a 2GHz dual core Atom processor by Intel, and it’s bagged some impressive stats on AnTuTu’s benchmarking app.

Scores were ranging from 25,000 to 27,000 on the benchmarking app, which when compared to other high end handsets, it’s certainly a large jump. In comparison to the Galaxy Note 2, which manages to score around 19,000 at its highest point, or HTC’s DNA, which racks up a still impressive score of 21,000 with the 1.5GHz S4 Pro Krait processor, there’s a huge noticeable difference.

However, what’s important to note is that these are just benchmark tests, and although it’s usually a fairly accurate way to measure hardware capabilities of the device, usage with the real thing may be a little different. That’s not to say the IdeaPhone will be lacking in anyway though, and it’s likely to run smoother than butter, although it’ll be hard to tell the difference between this and other phones simply because I think that the hardware in top-end smartphones far surpasses what the operating system is capable of.

It’ll be interesting to see what Samsung’s new Octa eight-core big.LITTLE chip will score in AnTuTu, but it’s bound to be a fierce competitor with Intel and their new chipsets.

While Lenovo has unfortunately refused to bring their smart phones over to the US market, they are more than willing to work with carriers when it comes to tablets.

Lenovo has now announced that AT&T will carry the Lenovo IdeaTab A2107. The 7-inch tablet will cost just $200 without contract, or $100 for a two-year agreement. Most will agree, paying $100 more for no contract is the wiser option though.

So what kind of specs does the tablet possess? It is a dual-core Cortex A9 tablet with Android ICS and a 1,024×600 resolution for its 7-inch display. There is also Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, FM radio and obviously AT&T-compatible mobile broadband.

While not a terrible tablet, I’d much rather receive news that the Lenovo K900 was making its way to the states.

What do you think, interested or not? For more information, check out the press release below.

CES 2013 will go down in history as the date when Lenovo finally put their money where their mouth is and launched an Android device actually worth lusting after. While there were rumours of an Intel powered Lenovo Android phone before today’s announcement, the K900 5.5-inch 1080 phone still managed to take us by surprise.

First of all it’s the world’s first Intel Clover Trail Android phone! Pretty impressive right? Well that new Intel chip is running at a cool 2Ghz and has 2GB RAM along for the ride! What this means is tons of power!

Not content with just giving us super performance, Lenovo have also given the K900 a Sony Exmor BSI 13 mega-pixel camera with a low-light happy F1.8 aperture with super wide lens.

Viewing those awesome photos will be absolutely stunning thanks to the 5.5-inch 1080p display with 400PPI. Despite the large size those who have had hands on time with the phone say that if feels great in the hand, similar to the Samsung Note 2 or even the HTC Droid DNA.

Unfortunately, there is some bad news for those of you reading from North America and Europe, as Lenovo have no plans to launch the K900 there. Customers in China, India, Russia, Indonesia, the Philppines and Vietnam can look forward to some K900 love, though.

What do you think, impressed by the Lenovo K900 or not?

Normally, you have to pay a premium price if you want to have a tablet that has wireless broadband capabilities, but this sale on the Lenovo Think Tablet makes it a heck of a lot more affordable.

The Lenovo Think Tablet 10.1 is powered by an NVIDIA Tegra 2 (1.0GHz) processor and 1GB of RAM, along with Android 3.1 Honeycomb and a 10.1-inch display. It’s a fairly standard Android tablet in that respect, but it complements its 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth with a Gobi 3000 WWAN module. That’ll get you online with the major cellular providers.

You also have to remember that this is part of the “Think” line of products from Lenovo, so it is geared more toward the business end of the spectrum. This is like the difference between getting an entry-level IdeaPad notebook and an enterprise-ready ThinkPad notebook. The difference in build quality and materials is like night and day.

This particular Lenovo Android tablet normally retails for $429.00, but you can pick it up now for $329.99 from Amazon.com. That includes super saver shipping. They only have a limited number available, so act quickly if you want to snatch up this deal.

The 1080p smartphone revolution has begun. Oppo, Sharp and HTC are among some of the first to jump in with 1080p 5-inch smartphone. HTC even managed to unveil the first US-bound 1080p smartphone, the HTC Droid DNA. Apparently, things are about to get even more crowded as Sony and even Lenovo prepare to jump into the fray as well.

The Lenovo 1080p smartphone’s actual looks remain a mystery, though a few screenshots from Lenovo’s customized Android UI have been leaked. We don’t know the actual screen size, as a source reporting to Engadget would only say it has a screen size between 4.5 and 5.5-inches. Considering all the existing 1080p displays were are aware of are 5-inch, it’s pretty easy to take a guess here. The new Lenovo phone also sports dual-SIM connectivity, which is pretty common with many Chinese smartphones out there.

Not much else is known about the new Lenovo 1080p phone, though more than likely it will be Chinese (and perhaps Asian) market only. While Lenovo does reasonably well selling PCs and tablets in the United States and other markets, it seems to keep its phone efforts close to home.

Are you eager to get your hands on an 1080p smartphone of your own? Perhaps you are leaning towards the HTC Droid DNA?

Maybe it’s because Windows 8 has arrived and that’s why retailers are frantically trying to clear out their Windows 7 laptops. That’s good news for consumers, because it means that you’re able to find some great deals on some pretty great laptops… like this substantial collection of Lenovo notebooks on sale for 20% off.

If you go to Amazon and look through the Lenovo notebooks that they have in stock, just about all of them on sale for quite a bit off the regular retail price. They’re mostly powered by Windows 7, but if you insist on having the newest OS, there are deals to get Windows 8 Pro for about $40.

As far as the Lenovo notebooks and ultrabooks go, a good example is the Lenovo IdeaPad Z585 261729U. It’s a 15.6-inch laptop powered by a 2.3GHz A-Series Quad Core A10-4600M processor and 6GB of RAM. It used to be $729.99, but now you can have it for $499.99. Similarly, you can get the MacBook-esque Lenovo IdeaPad U310 with the Core i5-3317U processor for $629.99, down from the regular price of $799.99.

Go find your Lenovo laptop deal on Amazon now before they take away these savings or run out of stock. They all qualify for free super saver shipping too.
