If you’ve been looking for a balanced photo and video camera, JVC promises the new GC-PX 10 — a true hybrid of both video and still — with an ability to capture 12 megapixel photos and full HD video recording at 36 Mbps will satiate your needs.

The camera features a tilting LCD monitor and has a 10x optical zoom, while the controls are set on the lens housing and not on the rear of the main body, usual for these types of cameras. While the PASM mode dial, the exposure/focus controls and power buttons are set on the side, the top of the lens housing has the external microphone, HDMI-out and USB port. On the right you can find the compartment for media cards and the built-in flash, along with the shutter release button on top of the body grip.

According to JVC, the camera can provide a maximum of 19x dynamic zoom on top of the 10x optical one, while keeping the image quality perfect. As usual, there’s an Intelligent Auto feature, face recognition software and a feature that permits 60 shots per second at 8.3 megapixels or 30 frames per second at full resolution.

At a price of $899.95, the GC-PX10 will be available this month along with a LoiLoScope FX software designed for Windows. Reminds me of the older Sony DSC-F717 from nearly a decade ago.

We may be the generation to witness the return of the boombox: We’ve seen iPod boombox docks – including the recent TDK boombox. Before that was Sanyo’s retro boombox in 2007, complete with tape-playing glory.

JVC is now set to join the ranks with its upcoming RD-R1 and RD-R2, but with a twist: The two will feature dual microphones along with its dual speakers.

MicroSDHC, USB and audio in ports and FM radio will power playback, compatible with WAV, Mp3 and AAC files. But that’s only the half of it.

The powerful top-mounted mics are designed to record street performances and garage bands, saving files as WAV or Mp3 files. The only difference between the two models is that the RD-R2 also includes a guitar/mic in and KORG connector, meaning the stereo doubles as an amp for performers on the go.

The units will be available in Japan in February, with the RD-R2 selling for about ¥37,800 ($450USD).

You don’t need to be James Cameron to shoot in 3D. Seemingly following in the footsteps of Panasonic and Sony, JVC has now revealed its own prosumer level 3D camcorder in the form of the GS-TD1.

This beast of a compact camcorder isn’t exactly for the light at heart, but it is being targeted much more at consumers for sure. The enthusiastic type, anyway. You get two 3.32MP CMOS sensors with JVC 3D TWIN HD GT F1.2 lenses, each of which is rapidly recording at 1920x1080i full HD.

Other critical specs include the 5x optical zoom, integrated 64GB solid state drive, SD expansion slot, and a 3.5-inch glasses-free 3D touch panel display. And if there was any ambiguity about the nature of this camcorder, the big honking “3D” should clear that up.

Expect your 3D creations to commence in March with an MSRP of just under $2,000. You just need to hire a massive studio of effects artists and you’ll be producing your own Avatar in no time, right? Right.
