]]> One of the most respected names when it comes to audio equipment has to be JBL.  This is particularly true of their iPod and iPhone docks, the sound is is always crisp and delivers above expectations.  And now you can score a great deal on the JBL On Stage Micro III. The dock is on sale on Amazon for $80 off the regular price, taking it down from $120 to $40.

This is a portable speaker system that can be battery-powered (AC power too), giving you the ability to take your tunes with you on the road, to the beach or wherever life may take you. It weights less than a pound, but you get dual JBL Odyssey full-range transducers to fill the room with “realistic JBL sound” via computer-optimized equalization. It even works as an iPod or iPhone dock, connecting to your computer via USB to sync with iTunes. There’s also a bonus IR remote for complete iPod control.

Pfft, pretty much all iPod speaker docks are the same right? The JBL On Air is a little bit of a different beast, though, since it makes use of the AirPlay wireless streaming. That and, well, the “halo” design is pretty sweet too.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen this design or this technology, but JBL has officially come forward to officially announce this speaker. You can use your AirPlay-enabled Mac or iOS device (4.2+) to stream your tunes from some distance away. The little screen on the On Play will show the current track information.

The rest of the specs aren’t as exciting — dual alarm clock, FM radio, USB port for firmware updates — but I guess they’re still worth mentioning. Pricing, which just so happens to be an important tidbit, has not yet been announced but JBL expects to start selling this rounded out speaker in the spring.

A pair of new iPod sound systems from JBL use a new design to create a “surround sound” experience. The On Stage IV and On Stage Micro III have speakers in a strange kind of rotating flower petal layout, this I would assume emits sound at multiple angles providing you with a good listening experience from anywhere. It’s going to work with your iPhone as well, and any other device you can hook up to the aux jack in the back.

JBL has always made good sounding systems, it’s hard to get clear quality sound out of a small speaker setup, so it’ll be interesting to see how this new model performs with it’s four Odyssey transducers (only two in the micro). The battery sucking On Stage IV will use 6 AAs for 16 hours playback, or four AAAs for 24 hours on the Micro. Both come with remotes, wall power adapters and a cost of $180 and $120 respectively.
