It has been a few months since the release of the iPhone 5 and iOS 6, but still no tetherless jailbreak in sight. So when will we see a jailbreak solution that doesn’t require tethering to work? It’s hard to say for sure.

When it comes to jailbreaking, there are several big names out there for such hacks. One of these names is p0d2g.

Unfortunately, p0d2g has confirmed through Twitter that he isn’t focusing on such a solution at the time, but that doesn’t mean other famous jailbreakers aren’t still trying there hand at it.

According to p0sixninja, he is currently looking for ways to dump the bootROM. Other hackers are focusing on looking into kernel exploits. This means that not all efforts have been abandoned, we just don’t have an easy solution at hand yet.

From the sounds of it, iOS 6 has been much harder to crack than any previous version of iOS. Where there is a will, there is a way, though. In time, someone will find a way around this, so don’t give up yet. In the meantime, enjoy the many great features for your iOS 6 device that don’t require jailbreaking.

If you absolutely need a jailbreak solution in your life, you might be better off sticking with an iOS 5 device.

To jailbreak or not to jailbreak, that is the question. There are ways to get a jailbreak up and running for iOS 6 A4-powered devices that will fully work and install the unofficial appstore we know and love (Cydia), but they require a tethered approach.

In case you are new to the jailbreak scene, a tethered solution basically means that the jailbreak needs to be booted by connecting to the computer. Tethered jailbreaks can be quite the headache unless you are certain that your iDevice will always be charged and on unless you happen to be near your PC/laptop.

The good news is that this version is supposed to be installed very easy. The jailbreak software recognizes you have iOS 6 and installs only the needed files, Cydia included. Still, some of us just don’t like the idea of a tethered jailbreak.

So what do you think? Going to give this a chance or will you hold off and wait for a tetherless solution to arrive?

A Jailbreak Dream Team has come together to jailbreak the unjailbreakable A5 Chip iDevices iPad 2 & the iPhone 4S. Pod2g announced on his official blog that the juggernauts of iOS hacking has joined hands to create an untethered jailbreak for the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S on iOS 5. The hope is that all 4 of the iOS hackers will combine their will and strength come together as a team and fuzz the Apple box.

This comes only a few days after pod2g announced that he has made great step in A5 Jailbreak & if no more roadblocks rise up the jailbreak could be released in a week. Now that the Dream Team is working along side pod2g we may very see the untethered jailbreak for the iPad 2 & iPhone 4S soon!

“I made a step today for the A5. With some luck we could expect a release in a week.

There are many users out there that have waited off on upgrading to the iPhone 4S for one big reason. You might wonder what would keep someone from wanting a much faster A5 device and Apple’s popular digital assistant, Siri.

In one word: jailbreaking.

Up until now there has been no viable way to jailbreak Apple’s A5 devices (iPhone 4S and the iPad 2) but if Pod2gis correct, this is all about to change.

Pod2g is an iOS cracker that has made a name for himself by discovering new methods for untethered jailbreaking and just yesterday he tweeted that he is a step closer to finally hacking Apple’s A5 devices.

According to the hacker, it could be as early as next week.

This is huge for those that own or are considering purchasing an iPad 2 or iPhone 4S. While an earlier solution called JailbreakMe 3.0 existed for cracking sec-gen iPads, this only applied to the iOS 4 software. So finally getting A5/iOS5 devices jailbroken is a major step forward for the hacking community.

I’m on the fence with jailbreaking. I’ve done it on many devices, but is it worth it in the end? Sure, you get access to apps you may not have had access to on your “factory sealed” model, but then you lose support and are in a constant fight for the latest jailbreak. If you own the T-Mobile G2 and have tried jailbreaking, you may have noticed it didn’t work all as planned.

Apparently the phone ships with a rootkit that will override changes made by the enduser – refreshing the original Android OS and firmware right back to what you started with. Just because you paid for that phone doesn’t mean you own it, according to HTC and T-Mobile. I guess its one clever way to keep your customers “safe” and it’s thanks to a microchip embedded within the G2 that made this possible. The members at Dev Forum have attempted endlessly to jailbreak the G2 with no results.

The big question is, does it matter that much? If you don’t have full control over your G2, do you really care so long as it does what it was initially set out to do? And why hasn’t Apple implemented such chips in their devices? Do they plan to? Or is a jailbroken world all a part of their plan? Would you buy an iPhone 5 per say, if it had an eFuse kill switch on board to revert unsanctioned updates?

We knew not to expect a jailbreak from the iPhone dev team anytime soon, but @pod2g and @p0sixninja together may have a solution for jailbreakers once again. A blog post came hours after the iOS 4.1 official announcement, pod2g announced “Pwned once again? :)” Although nothing has been released by the iPhone dev team, the exploit, according to @musclenerd will also work for iPhone 4, iPod touch (4G too) and iPad devices. This new method of cracking iOS could pose a bigger problem for Apple than previous jailbreaking methods; in order to patch it, Apple would need “a whole new processor rev.” Typically, Apple will simply re-flash or patch the bootrom of a new build before sending it off to thwart jailbreakers.

The Firmware Umbrella have updated their site with a 4.0.x to 4.1 update, apparently without touching the baseband. That’s fantastic, its not your typical click and unlock solution, so you will need a bit of time to RTFM, TinyUmbrella, a TSS server, and some balls. You can’t brick your iPhone testing exploits, but you can sure mess things up. So as always, proceed at your own risk and let us know how things worked out for you.

Apple has just pushed new updates; iOS 4.0.2 for the iPhone and iPod touch, and iOS 3.2.2 for iPads. The update does what we all expected, takes away any jailbreaking fun you were having with JailbreakMe, but also protects you from the latest PDF security hole.

Apple’s official words: “Fixes security vulnerability associated with viewing malicious PDF files.”

There is nothing really new to this update aside from the security fix. So if you are interested in keeping your iDevice jailbroken your best bet is to skip this update until the jailbreakers have updated their own code – if they can. Updated devices visiting the JailbreakMe.com website will show the error message of a “Version too old.” regardless of you using the latest update.

News came today as the US Government announced new exemptions to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). One of the most notable and perhaps useless exemptions is the iPhone Jailbreaking grant. It is no longer “illegal” to Jailbreak your iPhone or other similar Apple device according to a U.S. Library of Congress ruling today. What does this mean? Well, you will no longer be facing criminal charges if you installed Cydia on your iPhone. But most importantly, it protects the application developers and Jailbreakers out there from prosecution. They can go on for three years (this is how long the new exemptions are valid for) creating unsanctioned apps for the iPhone and iPad for use on jailbroken devices. We can expect to see Jailbreaking services from people for a fee. Although it’s probably one of the easiest things to do to your iDevice. The exemption also allows cellphones to be unlocked for use with any carrier. This was apparently against the law prior to this announcement, but as well all know, it hasn’t stopped anyone before. The lawmakers hardly have enough time to manage real crimes, let alone ones that involve the unlocking of a gadget.

This ruling does not force Apple or other manufacturers to stop their digital encryption and protection methods. They can still void your warranty if you bring them an unlocked or jailbroken phone. What it can do is legitimize the developments from companies like Adobe and Mozilla to create third-party applications for sale from unsanctioned app stores, for use on jailbroken iPhones. More specifically, Adobe could now create a Flash plugin for a fully-featured FireFox browser which you have downloaded legally from Cydia and Apple couldn’t say a thing about it.

Question to readers, are you content without Flash on your device and sticking with the Safari browser, or would you like a “full browsing experience” as some might call it? Just answer below and you will be entered to win a Novothink Surge solar charger for iPod Touch worth $70.
