One of the most respected names when it comes to audio equipment has to be JBL. This is particularly true of their iPod and iPhone docks, the sound is is always crisp and delivers above expectations. And now you can score a great deal on the JBL On Stage Micro III. The dock is on sale on Amazon for $80 off the regular price, taking it down from $120 to $40.

This is a portable speaker system that can be battery-powered (AC power too), giving you the ability to take your tunes with you on the road, to the beach or wherever life may take you. It weights less than a pound, but you get dual JBL Odyssey full-range transducers to fill the room with “realistic JBL sound” via computer-optimized equalization. It even works as an iPod or iPhone dock, connecting to your computer via USB to sync with iTunes. There’s also a bonus IR remote for complete iPod control.

The standard audio jack means that the JBL On Stage Micro III is compatible with all other audio sources too, so feel free to connect your Android smartphone, notebook PC, or portable gaming system. Rounding out the features are USB input, the new JBL weave design (who wants a bland black box when you can have this kind of style?), and up to 16 hours of battery-powered music playback.

Pick it up for just $39.99 including free shipping, which is a killer deal considering that the regular price was $119.95.

Yes, we already know about the iCade and Ouya, but what about the nostalgic value of curling up with your favorite NES title from the 80s? The newest creation is called the GameDock and it effectively lets you convert your iPhone, iPad or iPad touch into a retro video game console, complete with two player support and HDTV output.

The dock itself looks relatively simple with a place to dock your device. In the front, there are two USB ports that can easily accept modified NES-style controllers for two players. And then around the back is the HDMI output to connect to your HDTV. The developers took advantage of the pre-existing Bluetooth input standard from the Ion Audio iCade, since it already provides support for over 100 iOS games.

You can check out the Kickstarter page for more information and to pledge your cash. The $100 early bird is sold out, but if you pledge at least $125, they’ll send you a ready-to-play GameDock complete with the two retro USB controllers and an HDMI adapter. Bump that up to $150 and you’ll get “a bundle of games” too. They’ve set a funding goal of $50,000 and with 27 days to go, they’re already up over $40,000 in pledges.

Think about most of the iPod speaker docks on the market. They either require you to use a power cable or they run on batteries. They also happen to take up valuable desk or shelf space that could be used for something else. And then, take a look at the Waldok.

No, it’s not going to be the more technologically advanced or loudest iPod speaker dock on the market, but think about its design for a moment. It plugs directly into the wall without any dangling cables, docks an iPod of your choosing, and plays the music through its single speaker. I’ve seen charging docks that use this kind of design, but not speaker docks. This is slick and would be great for background tunes in smaller rooms.

At least, that’s the idea. The HERNstudio folks want to get this idea off the ground so they’ve put the project up on Kickstarter to raise the necessary funds. Not familiar with Kickstarter? You might want to take a look at our KickStarter project too!

Samson’s Expedition Series has been offering us a variety of portable PA solutions for a variety of applications for a while now. Their newest announcement in their portable line is the new flagship model: the XP510i.

A quote from Mark Wilder, Director of Marketing for Samson Technologies, “The beauty of the XP510i is in its design and versatility. It’s perfect for musical performances, education, house of worship, company meetings, outdoor functions, fitness clubs, corporate events, parties – any application where great sound, ease of use and portability are essential.” Wilder went on to say that “Because of its clever design, broad feature set and diverse capabilities, the XP510i makes professional sound simpler, more accessible and more convenient than ever before.”

The XP510i is setting new precedence for portable PA solutions with increased power and astonishing sound and an extensive list of features: dual 2-way speakers, 10-inch woofers in vented enclosures, 1-inch high-frequency drivers, detachable 10-channel mixer, and a 500 watt (2 x 250) Class D amplifier.

Additional features include: an integrated iPod dock, on-board 24-bit digital effects and phantom power allowing you to create your own personal sound.

And when you have packed it all up by; sliding the speakers together, locking the mixer on the back of one speaker, storing the cable in the back of the other, the whole package weighs just over 50 pounds.

Not to be confused with the Expedition XP308i; the XP510i will ‘blow’ it off the table as the new ultimate portable PA.
