One of the most respected names when it comes to audio equipment has to be JBL. This is particularly true of their iPod and iPhone docks, the sound is is always crisp and delivers above expectations. And now you can score a great deal on the JBL On Stage Micro III. The dock is on sale on Amazon for $80 off the regular price, taking it down from $120 to $40.

This is a portable speaker system that can be battery-powered (AC power too), giving you the ability to take your tunes with you on the road, to the beach or wherever life may take you. It weights less than a pound, but you get dual JBL Odyssey full-range transducers to fill the room with “realistic JBL sound” via computer-optimized equalization. It even works as an iPod or iPhone dock, connecting to your computer via USB to sync with iTunes. There’s also a bonus IR remote for complete iPod control.

The standard audio jack means that the JBL On Stage Micro III is compatible with all other audio sources too, so feel free to connect your Android smartphone, notebook PC, or portable gaming system. Rounding out the features are USB input, the new JBL weave design (who wants a bland black box when you can have this kind of style?), and up to 16 hours of battery-powered music playback.

Pick it up for just $39.99 including free shipping, which is a killer deal considering that the regular price was $119.95.

This is either one of the stupidest ideas on the planet or one of the smartest. It’s called the eco-amp and it’s an iPhone speaker amplifier that is basically a cardboard cone. It has been made from 100 percent recycled paper and it cups over the speaker on your iPhone.

It arrives in a flat envelope, so you’ll need to do a little origami work to fold it into shape. But seriously, it’s just a piece of presumably slightly thicker paper that’s been folded in the shape of a cone, so you could probably just do the same thing by cutting up an old shoebox. That beats spending $7.99 plus shipping for a twin pack of the eco-amp.

After all, despite the name, there is no actual amp here. It’s more like the horn from an old phonograph. We’ve all rolled up a paper cone to use like a makeshift megaphone and this works in basically teh same way. Creating company eco-made of Los Angeles claims that you’ll increase the volume on your iPhone speaker to 30dB.

When you want to connect to most speaker systems, you have to use some sort of cable. These days, you can cut the cords and use wireless technology like Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. The iFrogz Boost Speaker uses neither of these, relying on what sounds more like a telepathy with your music-pumping iDevice.

The Boost Speaker from iFrogz utilizes something called NearFA technology. This is not the same as Bluetooth. Instead, all you do is put your iPhone, iPod, or other portable device onto the Boost and it will “sync the audio signal.” It can then boost it out through its pair of two-watt speakers.

This almost makes me think of the SurfaceSound tech used in products like the Tunebug Shake, but this is an entirely different beast altogether. iFrogz says that it isn’t using a microphone to “detect” the sound either, so this has us scratching our heads. It’s got to be psychic.

In any case, you can expect up to 15 hours of tunes from three AA batteries. The Boost sells for $40.
