Are you frustrated by the multitasking on your Apple iPhone and wish there was a better way to quickly switch between apps? Chpwn has come up with a nice little tweak for all the jailbroken iOS owners out there and it’s called Zephyr.

Available through the Cydia Store for $2.99, Zephyr comes with two multitasking gestures. The first lets you swipe from the bottom of the screen to reveal an app switcher. The second lets you swipe from the left or right of the screen to quickly switch between recently used applications. Do these sound familiar? They should.

If you remember webOS, it had effectively the same gestures. Long swipes across the gesture area would switch apps and a big swipe from the gesture area to the touchscreen would show your app dock. The horizontal app-switching swipes also work on the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet. I’m not taking anything away from Chpwn (Grant Paul), per se. He had to get his inspiration from somewhere. You’ll need to be jailbroken first.

It was a cheer heard ’round the world: the iPad 2 jailbreak had arrived by way of Comex. However, it looks like Apple might be patching up the security hole that allows the new JailBreakMe.com to work in the first place. Yes, already.

They say that the German Federal Office for Information Security discovered a security flaw in iOS in which PDF files could hide malicious code (gee, isn’t that what Comex also discovered), which in turn could provide the hackers with valuable personal data. It’s through a similar kind of PDF exploit that you are able to jailbreak your iOS device through Jailbreakme.com.

The German IT agency calls it a “critical weakness,” and Apple says it “takes security very seriously.” Apple is working on a software update that would patch the hole, but did not specify when it would be available. This would take away the viability of JailBreakMe until Comex can figure out another workaround.

Did you upgrade to iOS 4.1 only to realize that there was no jailbreak available for it? Do you miss all of those unauthorized apps that you had previously? Fret not, my iPhone-touting friends, because now you have at least two options for breaking free of those shackles. It was only yesterday that we caught wind of the Limera1n jailbreak solution, and now today, you get another shot at the steel bars with the GreenPois0n tool.

It’s a bit of a shame that you have to go through these unauthorized solutions to get at the apps and tweaks that you want, but that’s become the nature of the game for smartphones. Android devices have rooting and iDevices have jailbreaking. From what I understand, Symbian devices are a little more open to hackery though.

In any case, GreenPois0n is out in the wild and it’ll work on the iPad, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and the iPod touch (3rd and 4th gens). The jailbreak tool only works with Windows and Linux right now, but they’ll surely have a Mac version soon.
