What Trey DeArk and Terence Green have done here is create a case for the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S that effectively reflects the light from the LED flash so that it envelopes the outside of the phone. In effect, your iPhone lights up to let you know that you’ve got a new text message or Facebook update to read. Because the light is reflected in multiple directions around the phone, you’ll see the notification regardless of orientation.

But what if you actually want to use that LED flash to take a picture? There is a small cover that allows the LED light to reflect back into the case for the notifications, but you can slide that cover open to reveal the LED light again. This way, you can take photos as you normally would. Check out the Kickstarter page for more information. They plan on doing multiple colors and the early bird special gives you a free custom combo case with a minimum pledge of $30.

One of these options is the new Armor Series case from Otterbox, designed for the iPhone 4/4S. This case has a thermoplastic shell, is precision fit to 300th of an inch for the 4 and 4S, and has a medical-grade stainless steel latch. The translation is, you won’t find hardly any other device stronger or safer for your iPhone, unless you want to go the extreme route a get a huge steel $650 case for it. Considering the case is too huge and heavy to be of any use though, I’d say the Armor Series is probably a better bet.

The bad news is that we don’t know how much this sturdy case costs just yet, though I would expect to pay a fairly hefty sum, considering just how solid the case seems to be. Everybody knows that there are tons of iPhone cases out there to choose from and that’s why case manufacturers are forced to come out with different case designs some of which are impractical or weird, but that does not give the license to anyone to freak everyone out. You probably will not find anything weirder than what you see above – the Hand iPhone Case.

The spooky case, which is likely inspired by the Thing in Addams Family, is from Japanese retailer Rakuten and is available with a price tag of 4,762 yen ($58), although it’s currently listed as out of stock. So it’s a whole lot cheaper than the bulletproof iPhone case, which by the way is a product that you will never find inside anybody’s pockets simply because of its size. But we are finding it difficult to imagine the Hand in the hands of many people anytime in the future.

The iPhone certainly needs protection, but there’s no need for too much of it. Japanese firm Marudai has come out with an iPhone case which appears to be the toughest case ever made, although it’s also the most impractical.

As you can see above, the case has a massive backside, which is made of a combination of steel and aluminum. According to the company, the case’s back can withstand a .50 caliber shot. But that type of protection will not be available for the device’s front side, which will always be exposed.

Most people (or most likely all) won’t be spending $650 to protect their iPhone from a bullet that most probably won’t fly in anytime. The case is strong though and also has the usual hole for the device’s camera, but it won’t be comfortable in the hands and certainly won’t fit into your pockets. And in case you haven’t noticed, the case costs more than the new iPad’s 32GB Wi-Fi version. You can simply buy a new iPhone to keep as a backup.

But if you are still interested, Marudai is taking orders at the moment and they will even be shipping an empty bullet with the case. If you are looking for something more pocket-friendly and affordable, take a peek at what G-Form has to offer.

We’ve seen products from companies like Lensbaby that let you take more interesting pictures with your iPhone, but this Magnifi case is so much more versatile. It can be adapted to work with even higher end optical instruments, including giant telescopes.

The Magnifi is comprised of two parts. The first part is the case that wraps around your iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S. The second part is a detachable bayonet mount. This aligns with the iPhone’s camera and then it can snatch onto the eyepiece of the optical instrument you wish to use. This can work with telescopes, microscopes, binoculars and more, giving you a true optical view of whatever you’d normally see with these instruments. That could make for some very interesting photographic opportunities. The key is the detachable bayonet mount, because it precisely align’s the iPhone camera with the optical axis of the eyepiece.

This is a fairly universal adapter, but there are some caveats. The optical eyepiece has to be at least one-inch long and between 1-1.5 inches in diameter. This is because the bayonet mount has to wrap around it. This may also mean that you may have to remove the rubber seals on the eyepiece.

The Magnifi project is currently up on Kickstarter, seeking $10,000 in seed funding for an initial production run. Pledge $60 or more to get yourself one Magnifi.

Yeah, it’s just another cell phone case with a solar panel on the back. The press release had some bold claims about how you’d never have to charge your iPhone again, but your mileage will certainly vary. It also means that you’ll need to dangle your iPhone out in the world for the solar panel to get its juice. I suppose that’s why it has a hole near the top.

It definitely looks a little on the bulky side, so that’s the tradeoff you’ll need to make for the convenience of some extra juice for your iPhone. The good news is that it’s compatible with all generations of iPhone and there’s even a built-in backup battery to store some extra power. The Solacase follows the same philosophy as the Solapad for iPad and the Solafire for the Kindle Fire.
