Battery life has become a very important concern with our increasingly digital lifestyles and the world’s first “smart bag” addresses that very need. It’s called Phorce, and it’s a bag with an integrated 54Whr battery pack that you can use to top up your various mobile devices.

That’s enough juice to provide your 15-inch MacBook Pro with an added 4 hours of operation or enough to charge your iPhone eight times over. That’s much larger than most of the portable battery packs that you see in the market, so it helps that it’s integrated into a comfortable bag. But that’s not the only thing that supposed to make Phorce so “smart.”

It also has a smartphone application. You connect to the Phorce via Bluetooth and then you can use the app to check on its remaining battery life. If your phone gets too far away from the Phorce, the app will notify you of that too. The bag itself looks mostly like a messenger bag, but they say that it can convert to a backpack or briefcase too. It’s made with a water-resistant outer shell and tech-friendly inner lining.

The people at Phorce have set a goal of $150,000 on the Kickstarter page with a deadline of December 22. Pledge a minimum of $199 for the early bird special to get the Phorce for USB in the color of your choice ($349 retail). When the early bird runs out, you can get the same deal for a minimum $219 pledge.

There are all sorts of external battery packs for the iPhone and iPad that provide you with some added juice on the go, but they’re all limited in one particular way: they all have a limited capacity. What if you could have an external battery that could expand and grow with your needs? That’s what you get with the Exovolt Plus from EXOGEAR, billed as the world’s first stackable battery pack.

The main unit will look familiar to most of us. It’s a rounded rectangle with a USB port out the side. There’s a 5200mA lithium-polymer battery inside, complete with four LED battery power status indicator lights, and then you can charge your iDevice of choice as you see fit. The iPhone 4S has a standard 1432mAh battery, so the base unit is enough to charge it more than three times. The Exovolt Plus will also work with most other smartphones and tablets, since it has a 2A max USB port for output.

But what if you want more? That’s where the “sub battery” accessory comes into play. The sub battery essentially stacks underneath the main unit and provides it with an extra 5200mA again. And you can stack several of these sub batteries together for even more power. The main difference is that the sub battery cannot work on its own; it needs to dock with the main battery unit.

No specific release date has been announced. The official page simply states that the Exovolt Plus system is “coming soon,” but we do know the the main unit will retail at $89.95 and the sub unit will sell for $49.95. The main battery package includes a 30-pin charge cable and a microUSB cable, as well as a handy carrying pouch.

In the midst of constant drama regarding possible overheating issues for the new iPad, we report something a little different. This time its the iPhone 4 acting up again. A few months back there was a case of an iPhone 4 that basically overheated and exploded in flight over Australia, but this time we have a report of spontaneous iPhone combustion that comes from within the US.

The phone was sitting innocently on its charger, just a foot or so away from the sleeping woman who wishes to remain anonymous. She woke up to the smoke and smell that was coming from the nightstand where her 4-year-old iPhone 4 was laying and she reacted immediately. Using her laptop case she grabbed the phone and made her way to the hotel room that she was staying at.

She decided to share the story with Mashable because she was getting nowhere with Apple and felt it was important to share this occurrence with others, so they know that while it isn’t a common thing, it can happen.

Alright, maybe this isn’t the most important take away, but has anyone noticed that almost all of these problems happen to travelers? On a plane, or at a hotel… apparently the iPhone 4 is getting old and just wants to stay home and relax. Let it grow old in peace and it won’t give you any problem, at least that’s my theory.

All jokes aside, it’s just further proof that Apple would rather hide and cover up potential phone problems than come clean and let their costumers know that problems with their products aren’t that common, but that they can in fact happen. Is this kind of cover-up behavior something unique to Apple? I’d wager just about every business out there does these kinds of things, but that doesn’t make it right.

Where is that darn charger? We’ve all had the experience of misplacing our phone chargers, but the JuiceTank eliminates that problem altogether by integrating the charger right into the iPhone case. And it looks half decent doing it too.

You would think that this could make for a rather fat iPhone case, but the JuiceTank does something quite interesting: the two prongs for the wall charger bit are actually separated. Each prong springs up from either side, allowing the case to stay relatively skinny. If the design called for the two prongs to stay together, it would have been a much thicker product.

As the JuiceTank does need to juice up the iPhone stored inside, the 30-pin connector is occupied. However, they’ve integrated a micro-USB port in there too for when you want to sync up with your computer. That way, you don’t have to remove the iPhone from the case. Check out the Kickstarter page for more info. Pledge $55 or more and you’ll get one of the first JuiceTanks when and if it hits retail in July 2012.

Yes, your Apple iPhone 4 may be a pretty cool little smartphone, but it’s not exactly conducive to sharing your experience with those around you. Well, this relatively simple idea from Texas Instruments and Brookstone should help with that. Say hello to the Pocket Projector.

Designed for the iPhone 4 (though it will presumably work with the iPhone 4S too), the Pocket Projector looks basically like a bulky case for the smartphone that happens to pack a DLP pico projector inside. The native resolution is just 640×360 pixels, but it can project an image of up to 50-inches from a distance of eight feet. That shouldn’t be too shabby for a short video or brief presentation.

It’s not the brightest thing in the world at 15 lumens (LED lamp), nor will it be particularly loud with its 0.5-watt speaker, but at least it’s something. The 2100mAh internal battery on the Pocket Projector doubles as a backup battery for your iPhone too. And yes, it’ll work with any app that supports a dock connector-style video-out protocol. It ships in two weeks for $230.
