Apple iPhone 5 being tested with 4G LTE radios

iphone5

Maybe this is one of the (potentially many) reasons the iPhone 5 has been delayed several times. It’s not about white paint. Instead, we’re hearing that a version of the upcoming iPhone 5 is being tested with some 4G LTE capabilities. That’d make it pretty different from the current iPhone 4, wouldn’t you say?

Apple iPhone 5, To Be Or Not To Be Unveiled at WWDC

wwdc2011

On the one hand, we have tradition. Every year since the first iPhone was announced so many moons ago, Apple has shown off a new version of its touchscreen mobile phone every June. Without fail. Given this and the June timing of WWDC, it only makes sense that the next iPhone (whether its an iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, or whatever name they give it) would be unveiled this June too.

Apple iPhone 4 official, has HD but no 4G

iphone-4

With leaks coming from California bars to Taiwanese manufacturing plants, the newest iPhone 4 release by Apple will definitely go down in history as one of the worst kept secrets the company has ever had. Was it all marketing, or just carelessness? No one will ever know, but legal actions against Gizmodo for revealing the device ahead of schedule can only lead us to believe it wasn’t intended. At the WWDC today Steve Jobs unveiled the iPhone 4 and it appears to be just as we thought it would. A front facing camera allows you two-way video communication over VoIP with other iPhone 4 users, this is done through a new app called FaceTime (see video below). HD video (720p / 30fps) can be recorded on the back side camera with the new iMovie app that will cost an extra $5. Still shots have been upgraded with a 5 megapixel sensor and 5x digital zoom from the rear which is accompanied by an LED flash.

Sprint rumored to get iPhone HD in a matter of weeks

Sprint rumored to get next-generation iPhone

Over the last year or so rumors have been running rampant over the release of a Verizon iPhone. AT&T’s exclusivity contract with Apple is ending, several carriers are looking to get the world’s most popular smartphone in their stores and on their network. While Verizon is still most likely to get the iPhone 4G (4th generation), another popular carrier also looks promising; Sprint. This comes from a series of emails between a Best Buy Employee and The Tech Update. The email states that Best Buy will be carrying a Sprint iPhone beginning in June. The source or store that the employee works at will obviously not reveal themselves, as they probably don’t want to end up losing their job and getting their house raided by big bro..er Apple.

New photos of White iPhone 4G surface

White-4G-iPhone

In a follow up to the previous leak of the white iPhone 4G, new photos have surfaced showing more detail and features of the white model.

The new photo, compliments of Apple.pro (site currently down), has both the white and black iPhone 4G prototypes side by side. The LCD and interface are similar to the infamous Gizmodo leak iPhone. Seeing this version makes me think it will be released simultaneously with the black one. Apple could open the color palate similar to iPods, but that’s highly unlikely. Expect the Apple iPhone 4th generation/HD to be released in June of 2011.

Affidavit released in Gizmodo iPhone controversy

Affidavit released pertaining to "stolen" iPhone 4G prototype

The missing iPhone 4G that Gizmodo acquired has been the most popular in a slew of found iPhone prototypes that have arisen over the last few weeks. Since the Gizmodo iPhone 4G was found, there has been a controversy arisen as to how it was acquired, and the means Apple took to get it back. Apple was so desperate to get the iPhone prototype back that it filed a warrant to retrieve the phone, and any related material to it. Now, the media has managed to get the Affidavit unsealed, making the details of the warrant available to the public.

Another iPhone 4G lost, this time dismantled too

iphone4g-lost-again-01

Apparently, there’s more than one inebriated Apple employee going around forgetting secret prototype cell phones in bars. Another iPhone 4G (iPhone HD? 4th-gen iPhone? Whatever you want to call it) has leaked its way onto the Internet and it seems to be a little further down the development cycle than the one Gizmodo nabbed some time back.

This time around, a Vietnamese forum (Taoviet.vn) has posted several pictures of the supposedly leaked fourth-generation Apple iPhone.

What will the iPhone 4 actually look like?

iphone4g-latest.01

We saw the images and video from Gizmodo getting a hold of the lost Apple smartphone prototype from California bar, but is that the real design? Or just a shell to hide all the inner-goodness of what is to come? Designer Antonio De Rosa believes this is not the real iPhone 4G that we saw, but a cheap clever disguise in order for engineers to field test the next-generation Apple device. “If you want my opinion, the shell of that 4G was only a temporary case, because the 2 circular buttons for the volume are very ugly. If it was the real version, Apple may need to change the design after we’ve seen them on Gizmodo.”

Gizmodo’s actions could have consequences, severely. Apple’s attorneys have sent notice to Gawker Media, the owners of Gizmodo requesting the unit to be returned immediately. Bruce Sewell, the attorney representing Apple wrote the formal letter.
