The new iPad from Apple has been available in places like Canada and the United States for a little while, but now more international customers can get their hands on the latest too. The expansion is substantial and will likely build on the momentum already brought on by the launch in the first set of countries.

Remember that Apple has already sold three million units of the new iPad, even before hitting up these international markets. The hope is that the supply can still satisfy the demand, especially now that they’re tackling an even larger demographic. With the addition of these 25 countries, the new iPad is now available in 37 markets around the world.

The new countries are Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Macau, Mexico, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden. Not surprisingly, the pricing will vary from market to market.

When the new iPad was revealed to the world, Apple told us that the new A5X chip spanked the Tegra 3 processor from NVIDIA. But those are just claims. How does the comparison stack up when you put them under real benchmarks and real world experiences?

That’s exactly what Laptop Mag wanted to find out, so they pit the new iPad against the Tegra 3-powered Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime. First, they ran GLBenchmark 2.1. This revealed that the A5X on the iPad 3 was able to render twice as many frames per second on the Egypt test and it was able to handle more than four times as many texels (texture pixels). So, for pure graphical prowess, the A5X seems like the winner.

However, when they had a look at integer and floating point performance, the Tegra 3 blew the A5X out of the water. It also outclassed Apple’s chip for memory performance, with the exception of memory bandwidth.

But what about the real world? They played Shadowgun and Riptide GP on both tablets and, well, it’s a mixed bag. The Retina display on the iPad provided crisper text and better colors, but the Asus had some visual effects not present in the Apple-friendly version of the games. Check out the video below.

So, after lining up for hours on end, you finally got your hands on the new iPad. You’re amazed by the improved graphics performance and enthralled by the new Retina display, but your hands are starting to catch on fire. Yup, it looks like the new iPad could have an overheating problem, and it isn’t even summer yet.

At this point, all the evidence is anecdotal, but there have been several posts across forums saying that the new iPad gets pretty darn hot. Yes, we can all expect our tablets and other electronics to get warm with extensive use, but it looks like the 3rd-generation iPad is suffering from a “debilitating jump in temperature.” This isn’t just a comfort thing, as there have been reports of the new iPad sporadically shutting itself down.

The message that appears on the screen? “The iPad needs to cool down.” The overheating is mostly isolated to just one corner of the tablet and the initial blame is being laid on the larger battery and more powerful processor. The unibody design doesn’t allow for much cooling either.

Did you get a new iPad? Have you experienced any of these problems?

Apple has a habit of selling you on the experience and not really letting you get a full look at the spec sheet. That hasn’t stopped some intrepid adventurers from ripping the new iPad apart to find out what guts it really has inside.

We already know about the new Retina display and its impressive 2048×1536 resolution. We already know about that A5X SoC and its quad-core graphics capabilities. But what about the RAM? The teardown has confirmed what we had pretty much expected: there is 1GB in there. This is double the 512MB that we find in the iPad 2. That should give a pretty good performance boost.

For the record, both cores of the A5X CPU are clocked at 1GHz. That’s not quite as fast as many of the processors on Android phones, but you have to remember that this is a different beast altogether and the lower (more efficient) clock speed could help a lot with battery life, even if the battery has gotten a fair bit bigger too.

So, what do you think? Have you decided to pick up the new iPad? Are you reading this while camped outside your local Apple Store, anxiously awaiting today’s launch? Stores open at 8:00AM local for anxious soon-to-be tablet holders.

As the invite let us know, today was the big day. Apple hosted a special event in San Francisco this morning to unveil the new iPad to the world. Interestingly enough, it is not the iPad 2S, the iPad HD, or even the iPad 3 that we had expected. It’s simply the new iPad. I guess they’ve decided to take the iPod approach to product names moving forward, rather than the iPhone style of naming models.

So, what exactly can we expect from the new iPad and how does the real deal stack up against the rumors that had been swirling around. First, the Retina Display has indeed come to fruition. The new 9.7-inch panel boasts a resolution of 2048×1536, quadrupling the pixel count of the iPad 2. That results in a pixel density of 264ppi.

Instead of an A6, Apple did go ahead with the Apple A5X processor with a new quad-core graphics processor. That’s supposed to be “four times” as fast as NVIDIA’s Tegra 3. Also as expected, the camera got an upgrade too. The new iSight camera is a 5MP shooter with backside-illuminated sensor and 1080p video support. The front camera for FaceTime is still VGA, falling short of the 2MP rumors we had heard.

4G LTE and HSPA+ are both in tow, resulting in models that’ll play friendly with the faster networks on AT&T, Verizon, Rogers, Telus, and Bell. If your carrier chooses to support it, the new iPad will also have a built-in wireless hotspot function too. Battery is being claimed at ten hours, but there’s a trade: the new iPad is fatter and heavier than the iPad 2.

While earlier rumors said that the new iPad could cost about $70 more than the iPad 2, that didn’t hold true at all. The 16GB Wi-Fi model holds steady at $499, whereas the 4G capable version is $629. If you want more storage, a bump to 32GB is $100 more and a bump to 64GB is $200 more. That means that the 4G model with 64GB tops out at $829. Preorders start today in Canada, US, UK, France, Germany, Switzerland and Japan with the official launch slated for March 16. About 100 more countries will join the new iParty a week later on March 23.

I’m sure almost everyone out there is on the edge of their seats just waiting for the March 7th iPad Press Conference, and it doesn’t help that we keep getting teased with new rumors along the way. While just a day ago we heard about the possibility of a new 8GB iPad 2, now it seems that according to parts listings from Griffin and Belkin, the next iPad might actually be called the iPad HD.

Generally accessory makers don’t get insider information about naming schemes or any solid information until right up until the launch, and then Apple starts giving them the information they need. With the next iPad likely boasting a retina display and other high-end capabilities, this doesn’t seem unbelievable.

Under this model, Apple might be trying to further position itself to cover a broader range of tablets in lower, mid, and high-range positions. Keep in mind though that this is largely just rumor and speculation until the day Tim Cook officially shows it off at the press conference next week. What do you think of the iPad HD name?
