As great as your chosen tablet may be, there is still something to be said about typing with that on-screen keyboard. Having a physical set of keys beneath your fingers just feels more natural and that’s why there are so many Bluetooth keyboards on the market. If you’re in the market for both a case and a keyboard for your iPad, this keyboard case from Gembox could be the perfect fit.

It serves three main purposes. First, the polyurethane “synthetic leather” case will protect your iPad against bumps, bruises and other damage. The “thin and stylish” case also has a magnetic flap closure to maintain those clean lines. Second, the case can function as a stand, letting you watch videos without having to hold on to the iPad itself. And third, of course, is that keyboard.

Even though the spill-proof keyboard is built into the case itself, it actually connects to your iPad via Bluetooth. It has a rated battery life of 45 hours, recharging via the provided USB charging cable and bonus USB A/C wall adapter. You can conserve battery life by using the on/off switch.

Normally retailing for $99.99, the Gembox iPad Keyboard Case is available now for $29.99, a savings of 70% off the regular price.

As great as gaming may have become on the iPad and the iPhone, it’s just not the same playing with touchscreen controls. We’ve seen some different physical contraptions that counter this, but the new Audojo Gaming Case for iPad could be one of the more creative solutions to date.

It basically snaps onto either side of the iPad with each half providing a speaker, an analog stick and a trigger button. This is quite different from some other cases and controllers that provide console-style face buttons and the analog sticks themselves remind me of the analog sliders you find on the PSP series from Sony. The dual analog stick configuration, along with the trigger buttons, makes the Audojo case a good solution for first-person shooters, flight sims and certain action games. I imagine this would be great if they ported Smash TV to iOS for this purpose.

Another thing that makes the Audojo gaming case different is that it doesn’t sync up with your iPad via Bluetooth. Instead, it plugs straight into the headphone jack of your tablet; this is supposed to provide minimal latency and extended battery life. If you still want to use headphones, there is a headphone jack on the case too. In terms of game compatibility which is very important for all these mobile gaming peripherals, Audojo is working with the Unity standard. And yes, you can use AirPlay for the big screen experience too.

Audojo is currently seeking funding through their Kickstarter campaign, which runs until February 21. They have a goal of raising $240,000. The estimated retail price for the gaming case will be “$99 or more,” but you can secure one now with a minimum pledge of $65 with free shipping in the US.

There is something to be said about retro appeal and recognizing your roots. I’m not sure what that something is, but you can probably say it with the Padintosh Case for the iPad. It’s compatible with both the iPad 2 and the new iPad (or “iPad 3,” if you prefer).

At first, I thought this iPad case would be the complete opposite of useful. It looked like it would block out about half of the touchscreen and then you would presumably load some sort of app to simulate the old Mac operating system. And then, I realized I was wrong. The “Mac” part of this Padintosh case is really for the back of the iPad and not the front. This way, when you decide to hold up your iPad to take a picture of Bill and Melinda Gates in London, they can stare right into the faux Mac screen that reads “hello.”

Go ahead and “party like it’s 1984″ with the Padintosh Case. It’s available now through Thinkgeek for a fairly reasonably $24.99. Since it’s only the back part of the case, you can still use your Smart Cover for the front. If only they made a 1984 style Smart Cover to match…

People in photography and production are probably already familiar with some of the Pelican cases that are out there. These boxes are great for protecting your expensive gear, keeping them safe from water, shock, sand and more. But did you know that Pelican also has a Pelican ProGear line that includes protective backpacks and hardback cases for regular folk too? Yes, they have smaller cases that are designed for the Apple iPad and notebooks, providing a watertight gasket, automatic purge valve, and cushioned inserts. These are definitely bulkier than your thin sleeves, but they definitely provide a lot more protection. Perhaps the more interesting line of Pelican ProGear products is their assortment of rugged backpacks. Again, these are designed to be super tough; some of them have an impact frame for full 360-degree protection from drops and tumbles. As can be expected from Pelican, some of these also contain a built-in case that is both watertight and crushproof. The ProGear U140, for instance, is even IP67 tested for staying under 3 feet of water for up to 30 minutes. Pricing varies considerably, but the backpacks start in the low $100 range and go up from there.

There are several very unique camera attachments and accessories for the iPhone, like the MirrorCase. But what about the iPad? This week, at the National Association of Broadcasters conference, the Padcaster was announced as a unique way to turn your iPad into an on-the-go filming and editing device. For $199, you can a case that allows you to hook up your iPad to a tripod and then you can even attach multiple lenses and an external mic to get even more out of your iPad video cam. To attach a lens, you will need a $79.99 mount as well though.

Admittedly, this looks pretty cool, useful and at least a little odd. For those who say that the iPad only has use as a media consumption device, this is further proof that this just isn’t the case anymore. It will be interesting to see if the Windows 8 tablets coming out this year will have similar unique functions that really push the tablet platform in new directions.

G-Form is set to make an impression at CES and have launched an iPad wrapped in one of their cases over 100,000 feet in the air. That’s high enough where if you or I were up there we would suffer from hypoxia and most likely explode like that guy in Total Recall when he was deprived of oxygen on the surface of Mars. Luckily Arnie made it though. Check out the video showing the iPad as it reaches the outer most edges of our atmosphere only to have the weather balloon explode sending the iPad back to Earth in the desert of Nevada.

Ladies looking for a practical and stylish way to store their iPad, or gentlemen looking for a gift for their Apple fangirl, you might want to check out Versetta handbags from Scott Creations. The bags are built to incorporate the iPad or iPad 2 into the frame. This allows you to easily access all ports and controls, which is great on the subway when you’re squished between two people and the only space you have is on your lap. A padded flap protects the iPad from any bumps or shoves.

The Prima collection features colourful bags in different styles, while the Affari collection features more subtle bags in classical dark colours clearly targeted at business professionals. A third collection features backpacks and will be available in mid-September. Since this is a trendy and fashionable bag, it’s not going to come cheap. All the Prima bags are $189.00, while the majority of the Affari bags are $229.00.

If you already shelled out at least $500 for the iPad 2, $189 shouldn’t be too steep for you. Gentlemen, if your lady has an iPad, consider gifting her one for her birthday. Though on Amazon a messenger bag designed for the iPad and iPad 2 from CaseCrown with multiple compartments (without an incorporated frame and accessible ports) retails for about $28 and seems to be getting good reviews. Your call.

We’ve all been there. You’re out on the road, doing your thing, and then you whip out your portable device only to discover that it’s out of juice. If you’ve got an iPad, Element5 has you covered. The Mini L Solarbag is exactly what you think it is; it’s a bag with a solar panel on it.

The carrying bag is clearly designed with the Apple iPad in mind, but the dock connector on the inside will work with any variety of iOS devices. The Swiss-made Mini L Solarbag features the BluCell solar panel on the top flap, which is presumably where it’ll get the most sunlight when you’re walking down the street on the way to Starbucks.

The eMicro battery found inside the bag is supposed to set “new standards at recharging Smartphones and iPads,” giving up to five extra hours on your iPad or three full charges of your iPhone. Element5 doesn’t say, but if this is anything like other solar chargers, getting the eMicro battery to fully charge is going to take a while. Maybe leave the bag by your windowsill when you’re at the office.

Though going green by way of this Swiss solar bag isn’t going to come cheaply. Available in black or white, the Mini L Solarbag is a whopping $400. Ouch, you’d be better off going for a Voltaic Spark at a $100 less.

G-Form knows that there is a good number of tech users out there that are quite active, and perhaps a bit careless too. This is why they created the Extreme Sleeve. They call it “the world’s most rugged case for laptops.” With water-resistant features, flexible exterior, all lightweight enough to haul around in your backpack, the Extreme Sleeve for Laptop can even fit an iPad since it will come in 11″, 13″ and 15″ sizes on May 31 from $60 to $80 respectively.

The company claims their Reactive Protection Technology “instantly stiffens upon impact and absorbs over 90% of the energy.” That’s pretty heavy duty if you ask me, but don’t just take my word for it, check out the video of them dropping it off a 20 foot balcony with a MacBook inside.

Aluminium unibody. Shiny glass back. All these are well and good, but they also make for a very cold and industrial-esque feeling iPad 2.
I’m not entirely sure if this is really any more “green” that using plastic and metal (I hear bamboo is a good choice, though, since it’s about as sustainable as it gets), but it certainly gives your iPhone, iPod, and iPad a distinctly different and possibly distinguished look. Standing out from the Miniot collection is the Miniot cover for iPad 2. It’s carved from a single piece of certified wood and serves as both a stand and a cover. Pricing starts at 50 Euro.

Having a wooden case for my electronic devices isn’t exactly my kind of style, but it might suit your preferences. Beyond the iPad, they’ve also got cases for the iPhone 4, iPhone 3G/3GS, and even the iWood Classic. Because, well, Steve Jobs isn’t going to let that die any time soon, so you might as well chop down a spirit tree in the interim.
