Cats do the darndest things. They get stuck in boxes. They ask if they can “haz” a cheeseburger. And now, there is video evidence that our feline companions may really be the best at slicing up fruit with their paws. Fruit Ninja HD is a pretty popular game across multiple platforms, but this kitty has it running on an iPad.

I guess it’s just a natural instinct. I’ve played with cats by getting them to chase around a laser pointer. They like the fast darting motion, presumably because it’s the same kind of motion that would get them to hunt mice and other little vermin. The digital fruit in the iOS game presumably isn’t nearly as nutritious, but it can be just as fun.

The kicker? The orange tabby is actually really good, earning an impressive score of 128. I just hope for the iPad’s sake that it has a decent screen protector on there. I’ve seen what cat’s claws can do to furniture and other valued belongings.

Gaming on the iDevice of your choosing doesn’t necessarily mean that you are restricted to that little screen in front of you. You can go ahead and game on your iMac too, using your iPhone or iPad as the controller in Real Racing 2. The OS X driving game can be played the conventional way, but it can also offer a Wii-like experience thanks to the tilt sensor in your iDevice.

No, you don’t get that white plastic shell of a steering wheel like how you got in Mario Kart Wii, but the fundamental idea is the same. In fact, Real Racing 2 for OS X is pretty much a port of the iOS version, except this way you get a bigger view of the track in front of you without it tilting on every turn. There’s a 16 car grid, 15 tracks, and 30 officially licensed cars. These include the 2010 Nissan GT-R R35, the 2012 McLaren MP4-12C, and the 2010 Ford Shelby Mustang GT500.

Yes, a $600 iPad is probably the most expensive game controller you’ve ever purchased, but Real Racing 2 could point toward more iOS/OSX crossover support from other developers too. Pick it up for $12.99.

I love fighting games. As much as I like Marvel vs. Capcom 3 on my Xbox, I still find myself turning back to Super Street Fighter IV to get my fix of hadoukens and ultra combos. The iPhone version of Street Fighter IV has now received its official successor in the form of Street Fighter IV Volt and it comes with at least two very notable upgrades.

First, you get true online multiplayer. You can’t seek out battles through a 3G connection, but hop onto that Wi-Fi and you can face off against other iCompetitors from around the world. That was the single greatest selling point for me when I bought Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix some years back on XBLA, so it’s good to see the same kind of thing showing up on the portable end of things too. You don’t need a 3DS and Street Fighter IV 3DS Edition to shoryuken on the go.

The other big update is the huge roster expansion. The first Street Fighter IV for iPhone launched with just eight characters, though Capcom added a few more as updates down the road. With Street Fighter IV Volt, you get 18 characters right out of the box. That’s pretty amazing, given that this is “just” an iOS game. Highlights include Sagat, Bison, and Vega, as well as Cody from the SSFIV update. No Oni, Evil Ryu, or Yun/Yang just yet.

If you pick up the game today through the App Store, you can get it for the bargain price of 99 cents. However, Capcom is upping the price a buck every day until it reaches its regular price of $6.99. So, if you’re on the fence, I suggest you make up your mind soon.

Have you ever wanted to live out the dream of being a network administrator for some nameless corporation? Okay, probably not, but you could still have some fun playing Netwalk for iPhone 1.0. You don’t have to deal with bureaucracy and TPS reports, but you do need to get a functional network going.

In a nutshell, it’s a casual puzzle game that you can get on your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad. You get a series of tiles and the goal is to connect all the computers in the network to the main server. There are split cables that bend a certain way and you have to make sure that you leave no loose ends in the network either.

Yes, the actual gameplay — rotating tiles to fit the puzzle — isn’t exactly original, but it’s still worth its whopping price of free to download. There are twelve levels, three difficulty settings (corresponding to three sizes of game board, not unlike Minesweeper in Windows), and three “random” boards that can be generated at any time.

When Apple first announced the App Store many moons ago, I didn’t think that the iPhone was much of a threat to the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP. Based on more recent developments though, that opinion is changing. As is the case with the newly released Rainbow Six: Shadow Vanguard.

If you didn’t know any better, you’d swear that this was a game being released on the PSP. The graphics aren’t exactly PS3 or even NGP quality, but they’re a quantum leap from Bejeweled and Angry Birds. It plays not unlike the many other Rainbow Six games based on Tom Clancy’s universe, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing for fans of the series.

There are eleven missions in all, plus co-op and competitive mutiplayer. A picture is worth a thousand words, but the gameplay video is worth a lot more. Check it out below. Rainbow Six: Shadow Vanguard weighs in at 479MB and sells for $6.99.

So, where is the Android version?
