After iOS 6.1 was released, a few issues became prevalent relating to the lock screen and Microsoft Exchange. The first of these two issues is a major security flaw that could potentially allow anyone to bypass your phone’s lock screen. But only if you can remember the steps. Jump to the bottom to see how it’s done.

In response to both of the issues, an Apple spokesman has already commented saying, ”Apple takes user security very seriously. We are aware of this issue, and will deliver a fix in a future software update”.

Unlike most of the past grumblings about iOS 6, these issues are not cosmetic or even causing devices to crash. Instead, the flaws could potentially allow anyone to access contacts, call logs, messages and pictures on a device by bypassing the lock screen.

Hang tight iOS users. We have already received the 6.1.1 update on an iPhone 4S and Apple has made a support page about the update. For those of you who are still experiencing problems with Microsoft Exchange or want to play with the lock screen flaw, scroll down for instructions on both.

Microsoft Exchange Issue

Here are the steps to fix the problem according to Apple’s support website:

Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars

Select the Exchange account from your Accounts list.

Turn the switch for Calendars to OFF.

Wait ten seconds.

Turn the switch for Calendars back to ON.

iOS 6.1 Lock Screen Flaw

Here are the steps as provided by videosdebarraquito. Use for good, not evil!

“-Go to emergency call, push down the power button and tap cancel.
-Dial 112 and tap green and inmediately red.
-Go to lock screen.

-Go to passcode screen.
-Keep pushing down the power button …1…2…3…seconds and before showing the slider “turn off”…tap the emergency call button and …voilá!
-Then without releasing the power button press the home button and ready…”

Apple iPad and iPhone users rejoice, an iOS 6.x jailbreak solution for all iDevices has finally arrived. Now that you can get your jailbreak on, what are some of the jailbroken apps you are most looking forward too?

We’ve put together a list of some of the apps and tweaks that are considered the “best”, and could likely end up as must-haves. Keep in mind that while most of these should already work with iOS 6, they might not be quite yet optimized for the iPhone 5 and there may be some other issues to work out.

That said, most of the developers are working hard to ensure their apps are compatible with iOS 6 and 6.1 as soon as possible.

NowNow

What’s Now Now? Basically this is a jailbreak tweak that allows you to press and hold the home botton and launch Google Voice search as an alternative to Siri. Keep in mind that this isn’t the full “Google Now” experience as you would get with an Android Jelly Bean device– but it is as close as you’ll find with iOS.

Also worth mentioning, Google Voice Search doesn’t communicate with other iOS apps, so no setting appointments or anything of that nature. Instead, this is a way to get more accurate voice search than perhaps you feel you’d get with Siri.

Browser Chooser

Although Safari is a solid browser choice, for whatever reason, you might decide to go a different route. Maybe Google Chrome, maybe Firefox OS or even something else.

Regardless of what alternative you use, you’ll notice that clicking on links will still often end up bringing you to Safari. With Browser Chooser you can actually set a different browser as the default.

A simple tweak, but a useful one nonetheless.

Auxo

This unique app switcher favors small cards instead of app icons, additionally it adds alot of extra functionality including the ability to easily kill multiple apps, a great new music player integrated and easy access to settings like Wi-Fi, Airplane and much more.

IntelliScreen X

IntelliScreen X has been around for a while now, but it is still one of the most useful programs out there, providing a great Notification Center ‘tweak’ that allows you to read status updates, post new tweets, quickly respond to SMS, Email and much more.

5 Icon Dock

This one isn’t that “impressive” of a tweak, but it is nonetheless useful. Basically it adds the ability to add a 5th icon to the dock. Simple, but ultimately rather useful.

AssistantLove

*According to one of our readers, this one is confirmed to NOT be compatible with iOS 6.1 just yet, hopefully soon.*

AssistantLove has several unique features that extend the functionality of Siri. The two biggest features have to do with GPS and music.

For music, AssistantLove takes Siri beyond controlling music directly on your device, giving you the ability to force the playback of any Spotify track as well. Of course you’ll need to have a Spotify Premium account.

As for GPS? With AssistantLove there is integration for Waze, MotionX-GPS, Navigon and TomTom. This means Siri can ask for directions and the program of your choice can launch with the current device location and specifcied destination information already in place.

Ifile

This is exactly what it sounds like, a file explorer. Ifile makes it easy to create, modify or explore anything and everythign with iOS’ file structure. This also makes it easy to install packages without having to know terminal commands.

Summing it up…

Is that it? Of course not, there are unlimited possibilities out there when it comes to apps and tweaks for your jailbreak iDevice.

This is a good starter list, and one that I hope to expand with the help of our readers. Is there a specific tweak or app that you’d recommend to those new to the jailbreaking scene? If so, mention it in the comments below. App suggestions with a high amount of upvotes will be added in as an edit to this guide.

As expected, the Evasi0n jailbreak tool has now officially been released today! The new tool includes support for both older iOS 6 and 6.1 devices and newer iDevices like the iPhone 5, iPad 4 and iPad Mini.

The new jailbreak method is designed to work with Mac, Linux or Windows machines. Before taking the jump, remember to backup your device using iTunes or iCloud. This is important in case something goes wrong and prevents data lose.

Next, disable the lock passcode for your device before using the Evasi0n jailbreak software. Next, remember to not launch Xcode or iTunes while the jailbreaking process is running.

Besides iOS 6.0 and 6.1, the jailbreak solution also supports 6.0.1 and 6.0.2.

So now what?

1)First, grab the Windows, Linux or Mac software that works with your PC.

2)Ensure iTunes and Xcode aren’t running, then start the jailbreak too. Connect your iDevice.

3)Click jailbreak button, wait for tool to complete.

4)Once complete, you’ll find a Jailbreak app on the homescreen. Tap this and wait for it to go back to homescreen.

5)Finally, your phone/tablet will reboot and you should find Cydia installed.

Good luck and congratulations on (hopefully) successfully managing to jailbreak your device. If you run into problems or are looking for more details, head over to the official Evasi0n website for more information.

The time has almost arrived. Late last night the team behind the evasi0n jailbreak officially confirmed that their jailbreak solution would in fact be ready sometime today. Taking a quick look at their website you’ll notice a “status bar” with a percent by it. As of the time of the writing of this article, it reads 97% complete. When it reaches 100%, the jailbreak will have arrived.

For those wondering, this jailbreak tool will work with the iPod Touch, iPad, iPad Mini and all iPhones capable of running iOS 6 through iOS 6.1. Additionally this is the very first tool that provides support for the 4th-gen iPad and iPhone 5. Even better, this is a totally untethered solution.

Hopefully not much longer before we can update you with the final release information and instructions. Are you ready to finally break your iOS 6 device free from its chains? What unlocked features/apps are you most looking forward to using once jailbroken?

UPDATE: The jailbreak has now arrived. Click here for download information and installation instructions.

Today Facebook announced that it is providing several new options for users and developers when it comes to viewing and creating ads that allow mobile app installation.

For iOS 6 users, that also means you can now install apps from ads within the Facebook app without needing to leave.

This is a new feature for iOS 6 and means you will no longer have to be pulled into the AppStore to complete these app installations. Other features added to Facebook’s ads include the ability to customize ads “directly from the app dashboard, power editor, or the ads API” and view demographic breakdowns for app installs by age, gender, country, and more.

What do you think of these changes to the way Facebook presents and uses ads in its iOS app?

Remember iOS 6.0.1 back in early November? This update was supposed to fix a great number of things, and that included Wi-Fi issues with iOS 6.

The Wi-Fi issues that had plagued iOS 6 from its launch should have been done and over after that, but unfortunately this wasn’t the case. Many Apple users continued to complain that their iDevices were having connectivity issues, despite updating to 6.0.1.

Luckily, 6.0.2 has finally arrived with one purpose and one purpose only: to solve your Wi-Fi woes. The update should be available starting today. Here’s to hoping that this update finally lays iOS 6′s Wi-Fi drama to rest.

Has anyone upgraded to the newest version yet? Did it solve your Wi-Fi issues or not?

The iPhone 5 hasn’t been out very long, but that’s not stopping rumors of the so-called iPhone 5S. Now it seems that a new set of leaked images have hit the net this morning, claiming to be the first shots of the next iPhone.

The images originally leaked courtesy of iPhone5parts.net, and shows a design that is very similar to the iPhone 5, but has a few parts of the housing slightly tweaked, such as screw placement. The model number and FCC ID have also been replaced with placeholder info, suggesting a prototype.

Rumors currently suggest production for the iPhone 5S will begin in December, with a summer 2013 debut. With that in mind, these have a chance of being the real deal.

What do you think, is this the real deal or not? Are you excited about the Apple iPhone 5S or not really that interested?

It has been a few months since the release of the iPhone 5 and iOS 6, but still no tetherless jailbreak in sight. So when will we see a jailbreak solution that doesn’t require tethering to work? It’s hard to say for sure.

When it comes to jailbreaking, there are several big names out there for such hacks. One of these names is p0d2g.

Unfortunately, p0d2g has confirmed through Twitter that he isn’t focusing on such a solution at the time, but that doesn’t mean other famous jailbreakers aren’t still trying there hand at it.

According to p0sixninja, he is currently looking for ways to dump the bootROM. Other hackers are focusing on looking into kernel exploits. This means that not all efforts have been abandoned, we just don’t have an easy solution at hand yet.

From the sounds of it, iOS 6 has been much harder to crack than any previous version of iOS. Where there is a will, there is a way, though. In time, someone will find a way around this, so don’t give up yet. In the meantime, enjoy the many great features for your iOS 6 device that don’t require jailbreaking.

If you absolutely need a jailbreak solution in your life, you might be better off sticking with an iOS 5 device.

Do you have a new iPad mini or a new iPad 4? It looks like the Dev-Team people are once again on your side, because they’ve released an update to redsn0w that allows you to save your iOS 6.0 blobs off to Cydia. Naturally, they recommend that you stick with 6.0 if that’s where you are at the moment.

They also note that several bug fixes come along with redsn0w 0.9.15b3, including an error that Windows users were encountering with the Restore button, as well as an iTunes error for stitched files. As per the Dev-Team blog:

Version 0.9.15b3 fixes the redsn0w “error 2601” that Windows users were seeing using the Restore button. It also fixes a related Windows iTunes error 14 for stitched files. Note that if you have a baseband, you should probably avoid stitching and simply use redsn0w’s native Restore (not iTunes).

Those lucky recipients of new iPad minis and iPad4s on Friday can use this redsn0w to save your 6.0 blobs off to Cydia. First connect your new device and turn it on, then use redsn0w’s Extras->SHSH Blobs->New and point it at the 6.0 IPSW.

I didn’t see any updates since, but they were also promising an ultrasn0w compatibility update for iOS 6.0 that is “mostly useful for 3GS old-bootrom users who are currently enjoying the untethered 6.0 jailbreak.” That will have the same baseband support as with iOS 5.x.

In any case, the downloads of redsn0w 0.9.15b3 are available now for OS X and for Windows.

While iOS 6 hasn’t been out very long it has been met with a fair share of criticism due to bugs and other issues that affect Wi-Fi, Cellular connections and more. The good news is that Apple seems to be addressing most of these problems in a new update to iOS 6.0.1.

According to Apple, here is the list of fixes and changes found in this minor update:

Fixes a bug that prevents iPhone 5 from installing software updates wirelessly over the air

Fixes a bug where horizontal lines may be displayed across the keyboard

Fixes an issue that could cause camera flash to not go off

Improves reliability of iPhone 5 and iPod touch (5th generation) when connected to encrypted WPA2 Wi-Fi networks

Resolves an issue that prevents iPhone from using the cellular network in some instances

Consolidated the Use Cellular Data switch for iTunes Match

Fixes a Passcode Lock bug which sometimes allowed access to Passbook pass details from lock screen

Fixes a bug affecting Exchange meetings

It is also worth noting that iPhone 5 users are plagued by a special bug that prevents OTA updates. Luckily, the solution is pretty simple. Head over to the Settings app, go to General and then Software Update. You’ll find instructions for downloading a special patch that will allow regular updates going forward. Once this is done you will be able to fully upgrade to iOS 6.0.1.

Have you downloaded the newest update to iOS 6 yet? If so, was it smooth sailing or did you run in to any problems?
