How much would you be willing to pay for an ultra-sleek, beautiful docking station and case designed for use in an automobile? $100? $500? How about a whopping $1,250? This might seem like a lot of cash to pay, but if you are familiar with STRUT products, the high price tag won’t surprise you at all. This company is all about automotive jewelry and bling, and the new STRUT LaunchPort System is taking that attractive style into the mobile technology market.

With the LaunchPort you get wireless charging through the dock and a protective case. The arc at which the iPad is positioned also makes it usable in a docked position for a variety of possible in-car uses. The system itself is hand-crafted from stainless steel and has a triple coating of chrome, which adds to the price tag obviously. The case itself comes in a few different designs including walnut burl, carbon fiber, leopard print and sparkle pink.

This classy and unique docking station is expected to go on display at the New York International Gift Fair later this month, than sometime a bit later than that will land into the hands of consumers.

By and large, you would assume that when you buy a standalone GPS device for your car that this device would be able to provide you with turn-by-turn directions, as well as information about points of interest and so on. That is not the case with this particular product from Hammacher Schlemmer.

Sure, it’s still a GPS device and it is still meant for use inside of your car, but it doesn’t do anything in terms of providing directions. Instead, its sole purpose is to warn you about any red light cameras in your vicinity. This way, you would run through the intersection and you can avoid the pricey tickets that may otherwise follow.

As such, this product is appropriately named the Red Light Camera Detector. It uses the GPS side of the equation to figure out where it is and then it matches the location up with an internal database of 6,000 red light and speed camera placements in Canada and the United States.

If you’re looking for any other points of interest aside from these camera locations, you’re out of luck. It’s also a little shocking to hear that the Red Light Camera Detector retails for a whopping $200. One other way you can save on those red light tickets is, well, not to run through red lights in the first place.

The daily commute to the office may not make for the most interesting of videos, but this could be fun for a spirited drive through a mountain pass. Or, you know, if you’re driving through an interesting town and you want to document the whole adventure. That appears to be the idea behind the Cam Cam Voyager.

This camcorder clamps onto your car visor and it can record the entirety of your driving trip at an impressive 720 x 480 pixel resolution. That’s not HD, but it is wider than a standard 4:3 aspect ratio. Strangely, it’s not really 16:9 either, fitting somewhere in between at a 3:2 aspect ratio.

If you insert a 32GB SD card, the Cam Cam Voyager dash camcorder can record up to 48 hours of driving run. Power comes by way of your car’s cigarette jack (12V port), so you don’t have to worry about running out of battery either.

You don’t have to concern yourself with filtering through loads and loads of footage, since the clips are automatically made into 15-minute segments. When the card gets full, the oldest clip is automatically deleted to make room for a new one.

I’m thinking that the average consumer won’t really need something like this, but commercial vehicles could find some value here if only for insurance and liability issues. Look to Brickhouse Security to find the Cam Cam Voyager for $299.95.
