Are you in the market for a new Android tablet and want to find the best deal possible? The 7-inch version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 just happens to be on sale for $50 off, bringing the price down to a mere $199.00.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 comes with a 7-inch multitouch display (1024 x 600) and is powered by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box. You get 8GB of internal storage, but unlike the Google Nexus 7 (which sells for the same price), the Galaxy Tab 2 has a microSD expansion slot for up to 32GB of additional storage.

Also, while the Nexus 7 only has a front-facing camera, the Galaxy Tab 2 has a 3-megapixel rear-facing camera too. Rounding out the specs are the 1GHz dual core processor and 1GB of RAM. Samsung is also throwing in a free one-year subscription to Dropbox with 50GB of cloud storage. Yes, the Google Nexus 7 is hugely popular and for good reason, but the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 offers several advantages too. It’s no slouch for sure.

Pick up the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 8GB Wi-Fi Android ICS Tablet on Amazon.com for $199. That includes free super saver shipping.

Update: The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1-Inch, Wi-Fi) has just gone on sale for $350, $50 off as well.

If you’re willing to go with a lower-tier brand, and are looking for tablets with Android Ice Cream Sandwich for less than $100, the Coby Kryos, 7.0-inch WVGA with a 1GHz processor and 512MB of RAM might be your best bet.

It should be noted that this is a resistive touchscreen, though, which means that your experience with it might not be quite the same finger-friendly experience as with a capacitive screen. That said, it also means that it’ll be better for those cold winter months when you’re wearing gloves. It’s also better for handwriting recognition and withstanding your 5 year old banging it around.

Other specs include the GetJar Marketplace (sorry, no google play), 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, and a number of preloaded apps to get you started with video watching, email, web browsing, music listening and e-book reading. There is 4GB of on-board storage, which can then be expanded with a microSD or microSDHC card, we’re not sure if .

Find the Coby Kryos on Amazon for $80, which is $30 (27%) off the regular price of $109.99.

It seems that Google’s 7-inch tablet PC is schedule for a full release in July, with an initial batch of 600,000 units shipping as early as June. According to the information cited, supposedly from sources within the supply chain, Asus is co-developing the device and the entry-level tablet will be around $200 or less.

The tablet’s inner details aren’t known but we can probably expect Android 4.0 and a quad-core chip. The Google 7-inch tablet could easily go up against existing Android 7-inchers that dominate; the Kindle Fire. The tablet might even come at a time that will help it compete against the rumored iPad Mini. If the tablet is really coming as early as June, I’m sure we’ll here more official news about the device soon enough. Honestly, it strikes me as being a little odd that Motorola (which now finally belongs to Google) wasn’t involved in the device’s development. Who knows for sure. At least for a bit longer, I’d take this news with a grain of salt.

Ever since getting my Sony Tablet S early this year, I’ve been anxious to see when and if they’d be pushing Ice Cream Sandwich onto the Android-powered tablet. While you may have been able to find some unofficial ROMs already, Sony has now pushed out an official Android 4.0 ICS update to the Tablet S and it comes with a wealth of new features.

Personally, one of the highlights is the inclusion of a native screenshot capture. It used to be that you had to root the Sony Tablet S to get this feature, but now it’s built-in; just press the power and reduce volume buttons at the same time. The ICS update also brings direct access to the SD card, an enhanced web browser that allows for offline viewing, a new panoramic camera mode, and an enhanced gallery media viewer with photo editing tools.

The lock screen is also enhanced, giving direct access to notifications and giving the ability to unlock directly to the camera app. On the home screen, you can now create folders for apps by dragging them together and these folders can be named as you see fit. And finally, they’ve developed exclusive “small apps” that can run over top other apps for some multi-tasking, not unlike what you get in a desktop environment.

The update is automatic. The next time your Sony Tablet S connects to Wi-Fi, it’ll prompt you to do a system update. Click OK, let it jump through some hoops, and you’ll have Android 4.0 running in a few minutes.

And let the rumors continue! It’s been postulated for some time that Google was working on a so-called Nexus tablet that would fundamentally follow in the footsteps of its Nexus family of smartphones. Now, we’re hearing that it could be Asus that will be charged with building the pure Google tablet.

Early rumors said that Samsung might be building the Nexus Tablet, since it was the one that built the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus. Then, we thought it might be LG or, because of the newfound relationship, it might be Motorola. The current rumors are pointing toward Asus as the current leading candidate.

The rest of the speculation still appears to be holding true with the upcoming Nexus tablet boasting a pure Ice Cream Sandwich experience with a 7-inch display and a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor. Considering that the 7-inch Asus MeMo tablet was brought down to $249, the $199 target price for the Nexus Tablet–which could be called the Google Play or maybe the Nexus Play–looks within reach. We’re expecting production to start next month with a launch to follow in June.

When it comes to tablets, we’ve grown accustomed to seeing the word “pad” or “tab” somewhere in the product name. We’ve got the iPad, Optimus Pad, Eee Pad, Galaxy Tab, and so on. That’s why it was almost refreshing when RIM decided to call its device the BlackBerry PlayBook. Now, it looks like Google could be borrowing a play out of that book… so to speak.

There are all kinds of rumors swirling around that Google is preparing a self-branded Android tablet, but apparently it’s not joining the Nexus family. Instead, it could be called the Google “Play” tablet. I imagine the boys and girls in Waterloo aren’t very happy about that, but at the same time, they’ve got some much bigger fish to fry at the moment.

It seems that Google has gone around and registered a number of domain names that have the word “play” in them. This might have to do with the tablet, or perhaps some sort of new software related to it, or maybe it has to do with something else entirely. What we do hear is that production could start as early as next month and the “Play” tablet could be a 7-incher preloaded with ICS. I wonder how Amazon feels about that.

You thought the $199 Kindle Fire was a good deal? You thought OLPC was doing the right thing with cheap laptops? Archos is going even further with the announcement of the Child Pad, a seven-inch kid-friendly tablet that runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich right out of the box.

Even though the Child Pad is clearly being targeted toward the younger set, the specs aren’t exactly anemic either. You still get a 1GHz processor and a full gig of RAM, as well as access to a special Kids App Store powered by AppsLib. Like the Kindle Fire, this Child Pad uses Android, but won’t have true access to Android Market. Thankfully, the Kids App Store still has 10,000 apps across 14 categories. It also utilizes a special kid-friendly user interface with color icons, home screen folders, and so on.

In line with the kid-friendliness, the Child Pad also gets parental controls and safe web browser features courtesy of Editions Profil. Expect the Archos Child Pad to hit retailers by the end of the month for a mere $129.

Huawei has been able to sneak itself into the consciousness of North American consumers in the last couple of years, primarily targeting the more affordable end of the Android device market. They’ve done pretty well with themselves when it comes to smartphones and now it looks like they’re going to take a more aggressive yet attractive approach to tablets too.

What you see here is an apparent sneak peek at an upcoming 10-inch Android tablet from Huawei. Details are sketchy at best, but it looks like it’s boasting a higher-end metal finish to go along with its notably slim profile. We’re hearing that it won’t launch with Honeycomb, going right into the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich end of things.

These are all rumored specs for the rumored tablet, of course, but we’re also hearing of support for 3G, as well as a microSD expansion slot, an 8MP camera with flash, and some sort of dock connector on the bottom. There’s something about it that looks distinctly Apple-esque, but we’ll leave that up to interpretation. Will Huawei show it off at MWC next week? We’ll have to wait to find out.

Earlier this year, I took a look at the Motorola Xoom and while it was a reasonably solid tablet, it was certainly not without its faults. Well, Motorola is ready to introduce another generation of Mototablet and they’re doing it with the strangely named Droid Xyboard.

From this first look at the tablet, you can tell that the design is quite different. For starters, you get more of a wedged-in corner kind of style, not unlike the design cue that we see in the recently launched Droid Razr. The back has an industrial design that almost reminds me of Getac’s rugged convertible tablet PCs.

While the Droid Xyboard ships with Honeycomb, it will be eligible for Ice Cream Sandwich at some point in the future. We’re being told that two sizes will be available too: 8.2-inch and 10.1-inch, both of which have the same 1280×800 resolution display, dual core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB RAM, Verizon 4G LTE, 5MP rear cam, and 1.3MP front cam.

The 16GB version of the 8.2-inch and 10.1-inch Droid Xyboard will retail for $430 and $530, respectively, with a two-year Verizon contract. Both can be bumped to 32GB models, while only the bigger tab will get the 64GB option.
