Everyone and their grandmother (almost literally) is sitting on pins and needles waiting for Steve Jobs to cross the stage yet once again to reveal how he’s changing smartphones all over again with the iPhone 5. The latest rumors point toward a September launch, so until then, we have conjecture and hearsay. iPhone Patents Show Smart Bezel and Hybrid E-Paper Display

That’s right. We’ve got two Apple patents for the price of one, both of which could point toward what we should be expecting from the upcoming iPhone 5. Bear in mind that these are just patents and the folks in Cupertino may not necessarily follow through on these design cues. So, which will it be? Smart bezels or an e-paper hybrid?

Apple iPhone 5, To Be Or Not To Be Unveiled at WWDC

On the one hand, we have tradition. Every year since the first iPhone was announced so many moons ago, Apple has shown off a new version of its touchscreen mobile phone every June. Without fail. Given this and the June timing of WWDC, it only makes sense that the next iPhone (whether its an iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, or whatever name they give it) would be unveiled this June too.

iPhone 5 Possibly Delayed, iPad 2 in April

How do we know so much about something that doesn’t even exist yet? Well, because there are many analysts out there who keep track of component inventory, manufacturers and anything related to building Apple products all together; they’re paid to. Although the iPhone 4 is brand spanking new to Verizon, and not even a year old on AT&T, many are expecting the iPhone 5 to come in June 2011.

Well, it may have just become an internal component to some seriously jaw dropping technology. Apple uses Liquidmetal in the iPhone and iPad casing — oddly enough not in the iPhone 4s back glass — but apparently a new use for this ultralight weight stronger than steel GMO have been found; to house a vat of potentially explosive combustable liquid to power your gadgets.
