iPad continues to drive growth of media tablet shipments

Media tablet shipments have increased worldwide by almost 90 per cent on a sequential basis, and year over year by about 300 per cent in the second calendar quarter of 2011 to 13.6 million units. Because of the strong performance that leads to a positive outlook for the gadget for the second half of the year, IDC made a forecast of 62.5 million units being shipped all over the world. The iPad is driving this growth.

New factory in Brazil will ship iPads by December

A factory in Brazil will be manufacturing iPads. To add to this surprise, they will be shipped in Brazil starting in December of this year. Mercadante explained that despite all the doubts, the new iPad factory will be making the gadgets for the first time outside of Chinese territory.

Linux getting ported to A4 iPhone and iPad, Android next up?

This is really preliminary stuff at the moment, but it looks like you will soon be able to run a version of Linux on the iPhone 4, iPod touch 4G, and iPad. You might even get it on the iPad 2, but for now, the image shows Linux booting up on a first-gen iTablet. This could also pave the way for the Google Android operating system to work on newer iDevices too.

Survey says Amazon Android tablet could be a threat to Apple’s iPad

I wouldn’t go quite as far as Retrovo in saying that an Android tablet from Amazon is the biggest threat to the iPad, but it goes to show you that the public would definitely be interested in one. When looking at the survey results, 55% of those who responded said that they would seriously consider buying a tablet from Amazon.

We knew that the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch were popular. We knew that people who purchased these devices would inevitably download a few apps. As it turns out, the average is more than just a few. In fact, the average iOS user has downloaded a total of 75 apps. That’s on average.

iPad 2 vs. Motorola Xoom vs. Galaxy Tab In A Drop Test

The guys at Square Trade have thought to drop test different tablets to see how well they fare. They started out the test series with an iPad 2 covered in a Smart Cover and a bare iPad 2. The tablet wearing the Smart-Cover survived the drop and its display remained intact. Unfortunately, the other iPad 2 which did not have the cover on did not do very well in the test, to say the least.

Steve Jobs Unveils iCloud @ WWDC

It was a bit of a surprise today when Steve Jobs walked out on the stage at WWDC to the tune of James Brown’s “I Got You (I Feel Good)” classic blasting over the PA system. He took a leave back in January, but that didn’t stop him from appearing today. In high spirits and receiving much appreciation from 5000 Apple devotees, jobs kicked off the event with the announcement of iCloud.
