There is something to be said about retro appeal and recognizing your roots. I’m not sure what that something is, but you can probably say it with the Padintosh Case for the iPad. It’s compatible with both the iPad 2 and the new iPad (or “iPad 3,” if you prefer).

At first, I thought this iPad case would be the complete opposite of useful. It looked like it would block out about half of the touchscreen and then you would presumably load some sort of app to simulate the old Mac operating system. And then, I realized I was wrong. The “Mac” part of this Padintosh case is really for the back of the iPad and not the front. This way, when you decide to hold up your iPad to take a picture of Bill and Melinda Gates in London, they can stare right into the faux Mac screen that reads “hello.”

Go ahead and “party like it’s 1984″ with the Padintosh Case. It’s available now through Thinkgeek for a fairly reasonably $24.99. Since it’s only the back part of the case, you can still use your Smart Cover for the front. If only they made a 1984 style Smart Cover to match…

There are still many questions that need answering, but it’s clear enough to anyone watching that the Microsoft Surface Tablet is a pretty big deal. And you don’t have to tell Tim Cook about the Surface, because it’s surely caught his attention too… as well as the attention of Apple’s legal team.

Naturally, Tim Cook got on the line with his legal counsel as soon as the Microsoft Surface was announced and the promo video was played.

Yes, the video below is outwardly mocking Apple’s approach to the competition, but it’s worth a good laugh. We know that Apple has developed a habit of suing everyone over just about everything, so it would not at all be surprising if the legal team in Cupertino found more than a few “patent infringements” with Microsoft’s new tablet device.

“A square device on a pedestal? Oh my God! We patented that, like, 20 years ago.” And yes, they invented magnets and kickstands too.

There have been a ton of rumors about upcoming features in the iPhone 5, but here’s one that probably isn’t going to be happening. A humorous little video has hit the net that shows a new feature of the iPhone that should keep theft down to a minimum. If you try to use the iPhone and input the wrong code three times, it basically self-destructs thanks to good ole’ Siri. She’ll crack the screen, and no thief is going to be getting a hold of your precious data then!

Awesome idea, though something tells me that Apple isn’t considering this one. You never know though, an iSelf_Destruct feature could be just what the iPhone is missing.

Take a look at the video for yourself, below:

They say that perception is 95% of reality. The trouble is that everyone’s perception is a little different and there are few places where this is more evident than among smartphone evangelists. Are you an Apple fanboy (or fangirl)? Well, other people don’t see you in the same way that you see yourself.

Depicted here is a clever graphic from the folks at C-Section comics. Let’s take the iPhone user as a prime example. According to this, most iPhone users will probably see themselves as hip and fashionable. Unfortunately, BlackBerry users will view the same iPhone owner as childish and immature. And the Android user? Well, she sees the iPhone owner as a cult-ish witch.

It’s not like the other platforms are immune to these ill-conceived perceptions either. The typical Android user might see himself as a brilliant Einstein, but the iPhone user will see the Android owner as a pimple-faced dork. Not good.

Yes, these are all exaggerated versions of reality, but there is some truth to this. The Android guy probably does see the BlackBerry owner as an ancient dinosaur. And where do I, as a Nokia Symbian user fall into the field? Probably as a nondescript wallflower that very few people notice.

See the full comic strip at C-Section
