Nobody is sure about what changes are going to happen to Hulu in the future, since News Corp. and Disney are still making decisions. But we have got confirmation about one thing. When CEO Jason Kilar steps down Andy Forssell, senior vice president of content, will take over as acting CEO.

Kilar wrote on the Hulu blog, “Andy exemplifies the Hulu culture and has been central to Hulu’s journey, helping to grow this company from two content partners and no revenue to over 450 content partners and approximately $700 million revenue in 2012“.

About the Hulu part-owners Disney and News Corporation, Kilar is saying that they are finalizing “forward-looking plans” with the website. As you might know, the two companies have disagreements about Hulu’s direction. While Disney is planning for an ad-supported future, News Corp. wants to increase Hulu’s paid subscribers.

Kilar announced back in January that he will be leaving the company, and he has announced that he will depart “at the end of this quarter”. There hasn’t been any announcement about whether Forssell will get the job permanently. According to Kilar, the matter will only be discussed after Hulu’s future is decided.

Uncertainty surrounds the future of Hulu as News Corp. and Disney have started discussing the future of the service and their own stakes in the company.

The post What Is Going To Happen To Hulu? appeared first on Mobile Magazine.

Hulu is already not as popular as rival Netflix and there will be more competition from Amazon and the Redbox Instant service, and now the future of the service itself has become uncertain due to problems from the inside.

According to available info, News Corp. and Disney, the two companies which each own roughly a third of Hulu, have started discussing the future of the service and their own stakes in the company. The two companies have plans to purchase the other’s stake or sell it to an outside company. Apparently, they have disagreements regarding the direction in which Hulu should go.

Currently, Hulu offers a free version and also a Hulu Plus subscription service and both the offerings include ads. The disagreement between the two companies is that Disney prefers an ad-supported strategy, while News Corp. feels that the focus should be on subscriptions. In the case of subscriptions, Hulu with just 3 million subscribers is nowhere near Netflix’s 27 million.

Hulu’s CEO Jason Kilar and CTO Tom Rich earlier announced their plans to step down from the company. So the future of the service might only be decided after its new CEO and CTO are announced, possibly along with new owners as well. Till then uncertainty surrounds Hulu.

Do you use Hulu regularly? Do you subscribe to Hulu Plus?

Sure, streaming media is nothing new. You can do that with no problem at all on Hulu or Netflix. However, there's just something to be said about free, and that's exactly the appeal of the Sony Crackle app for iPhone and iPad.

Sure, streaming media is nothing new. You can do that with no problem at all on Hulu or Netflix. However, there’s just something to be said about free, and that’s exactly the appeal of the Sony Crackle app for iPhone and iPad.

We’re not talking about random unauthorized clips from YouTube. The crazy thing about Crackle is that you can watch full feature length movies and television shows from major studios. Go ahead and watch everything from The Da Vinci Code to classic episodes of Married with Childen. Before Modern Family, Ed O’Neill was Al “Four Touchdowns in a Single Game” Bundy.

The app, which probably looks better on the iPad than the iPhone, comes with content from Columbia Pictures, Tri-Star, Screen Gems, Sony Pictures Classics, and other sources. Because it is free, Crackle is supported by ads. That’s a small price to pay to get that much free TV and movie watching, right?

Now, we just have to see if Sony will extend the Crackle love to the Android (and other) owners in the audience.

It’s that time of year again. Well, I guess it could be just about any time of year, but Steve Jobs and the Apple crew are planning a special event on September 1st. We have what we believe to be the skinny on what will be revealed. Get ready for a Hulu fighter.

First, it is said that Apple is working on bringing TV show rentals to its iTunes service, competing directly against the likes of Hulu and Netflix. They’re already in “advanced” talks with Fox and it seems that they’re moving in on CBS, NBC Universal, and Walt Disney Company too. Remember that El Jobso is a board member and the largest shareholder at Disney.

The plan would involve renting TV shows for 99 cents each, allowing consumers to watch them over about a 48-hour period. New episodes would become available in iTunes within 24 hours of their original airing. It’s quite possible that this could be extended to mobile devices too, like the iPhone and iPad.

Speaking of mobile devices, the same September 1st Apple event could finally see the unveiling of the next-generation iPod touch. It’s said to have a higher resolution screen, similar to that of the iPhone 4, and it might have a camera too. Back to school with an iPod touch and 99 cent TV show rentals?
