Not too long ago, HTC brought its J Butterfly over the United States in the form of the HTC Droid DNA. Shortly after, we received word that the rest of the world would likely see the device under the name HTC Deluxe. Now it seems that they have officially confirmed the global name will simply be the HTC Butterfly.

As expected, the HTC Butterfly features a 5-inch 1920 x 1080 display, a quad-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 processor and 2GB of RAM. There is also 16GB of internal storage, microSD for expansion, a 2.1MP camera front cam, 8MP back cam and 2020 mAh battery.

It’s still unclear what markets will seen the international Butterfly, although rumors continue to suggest that China will see the device sometime next month.

Are you interested in the HTC Butterfly or not?

When we first heard about the Oppo Find 5 Android smartphone, we weren’t sure if it was going to make it out of China. It has now been confirmed that it’s coming to the States as an unlocked smartphone, compatible with T-Mobile, AT&T and Simple Mobile. The unsubsidized price has been set at $499.

The specs are roughly on par with the Droid DNA (HTC J Butterfly), giving you a Qualcomm APQ8064 quad-core 1.5GHz processor and 2GB of RAM. There’s the impressive 5-inch 1080×1920 full HD display (441PPI), 16GB of internal storage, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and a beefy 2500mAh battery for extended life. It’s quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900) and quad-band UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA/HSPA+ (850/1700/1900/2100), so it should be pretty world-friendly too. Rounding out the wireless radios are dual-band WiFi-N, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth, and NFC. And all this will be found in a remarkably slim package.

The official event for the Oppo Find 5 is scheduled to happen in Beijing on December 12, though it’s not yet clear when they are going to launch the phone in the United States. They are set up as Oppo USA, so their American ambitions are pretty clear. At $499 unsubsidized, this is one of the better spec’d unlocked smartphones for sure, though some people may be wary of the Oppo brand and would prefer to get the Nexus 4. It should be noted that the Oppo Find 5 appears to lack US-friendly LTE, though.

While this isn’t going to come as a surprise to many of us, HTC and Verizon held their press event to today and unveiled none other than the HTC Droid DNA. For those that don’t know, this is essentially the US version of the HTC J Butterfly.

So the announcement wasn’t a surprise, is anything else related to the new HTC phablet a shocker? Not really, it seems pretty on par with the J Butterfly. Here are the official specs and features on the HTC Droid DNA:

1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor

2GB of RAM

16GB of storage

5-inch IPS display with 1920 x 1090 resolution and Gorilla Glass 2

microSD

8MP camera, 2.1MP front cam

4G LTE support

802.11 a/b/g/n dual-band, Wifi, GPS

Bluetooth, NFC

Mobile hotspot support

microUSB

2020mAh battery

Beats audio support

wireless charging support

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean running with HTC Sense 4+

Size: 143 x 71 x 9.1mm

Weight: 140g

As you can see, this phone is a beast with its quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and 1080p 5-inch screen. Large phones like this aren’t for everyone, and HTC Sense might be a turn off for some– that said, if you are looking for a massively powerful phablet, this is certainly the most powerful you’ll find at least for now.

We’ve known about the Japanese-bound HTC J Butterfly for a while now. The 5-inch 1080 monster looks to be one of the most impressive smartphones ever released, but what about outside of Japan? In the United States, Verizon is getting a rebranded version called the Droid DNA. The good news is that the rest of the Asian market is also getting the gorgeous 1080p phablet, under the name HTC DLX.

According to several rumors emerging, the HTC DLX will be available in black, white and brown color choices and will be slightly thinner than Verizon’s version, possible due to a smaller battery inside. Otherwise, the DLX, J Butterfly and Droid DNA all seem to have about the same overall specs.

With the HTC DLX you will get the same 1080p screen, a quad-core Snapdragon S4 CPU, 2GB of RAM and a 12MP camera.

At the moment, the rumors seem to only talk about China and Taiwan getting the DLX. That being said, don’t be surprised if the HTC DLX makes its way to other markets like Europe in the not-so-distant future as well. When? That’s a good question. We’ll keep our readers up to date when we learn more.

Not too long ago we reported on the impressive 1080p HTC J Butterfly smartphone. At the time all we knew for sure was that the device was coming to Japan. While we still don’t know all the markets that the J Butterfly will come to, it seems that the United States is getting the device, although under a completely different name. The US version of the J Butterfly will be called the HTC Droid DNA, an exclusive smartphone for the Verizon network.

Not only has there been internal document leaks from Verizon to suggest the existence of the Droid DNA, now the famous Twitter tech leaker “Evleaks” has also released a leaked press photo. Additionally, the tweet mentions that the new HTC phablet should arrive in the United States sometime in early December.

The HTC Droid DNA not only has a massive 5-inch screen with a 1080p True HD resolution, it also has a quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 2GB of Ram, 16GB of internal storage, an 8MP camera and Android Jelly Bean (though not sure if it will arrive with Android 4.1 or 4.2 Jelly Bean).

If the internal documents tied to this leak prove true, the HTC Droid DNA might only set you back $199 with a two year contract – this isn’t bad considering how powerful the device seems to be. What do you think, interested in picking this up from Verizon or not?

Most people would say that the Retina Display on the iPhone 5 at 326ppi is impressive, but the newly announced HTC J Butterfly blows that out of the water. Its five-inch 1080p full HD display is rocking a pixel density of 443 pixels per inch (ppi). It’s like taking the monstrous 55-inch HDTV in your living room and scrunching it down to proportions that will fit in your (somewhat larger) pants pocket. Can you imagine having 1920×1080 in something that fits in the palm of your hand?

Continuing with the extra large superphone trend that led to phablets like the Galaxy Note II and LG Intuition, the HTC J Butterfly also has more to offer than just its super-sized Super LCD 3 display. Under the hood is a quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor (1.5GHz), a full two gigs of RAM, 16GB internal storage, microSD expansion, 2020mAh battery, Wi-Fi tethering for up to 8 devices, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, HDMI out, and BEATS audio. It also ships with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean right out of the box, overlaid with HTC Sense 4+.

The camera on the back looks like it’s going to be really good too, following in the footsteps of the flagship HTC One X superphone. There’s an 8MP CMOS shooter back there with a wide F2.0 aperture for better low-light performance. There’s also a front-facing 2MP camera for video chats and self portraits. All of this is housed in a phablet that’s just 9.1mm thick and 140 grams.

That’s all good news, except it comes with one giant caveat. It appears that the J Butterfly is being offered exclusively in Japan via KDDI. It’ll use their 4G LTE network that is capable of download speeds of up to 75Mbps. HTC might offer a variant to other markets eventually, but the Japanese model will ship in early December in your choice of black, white or red.
