The much anticipated Samsung Galaxy S3 is said to be coming with a quad core processor and is expected to be a powerhouse, but why wait anxiously for the handset if you already have a powerful smartphone to play with. No, we do not mean the HTC One X which reportedly is coming with a design flaw. We are talking about the Meizu MX Quad-core which, according to the company, is the world’s first smartphone to utilize the quad-core Exynos chip.

Powered by a Cortex-A9-based quad-core Samsung Exynos chip, the new handset will run Meizu-customized Ice Cream Sandwich (Flyme OS) and has a 4-inch 960 x 640 ASV display. The company claims that the device will feature 20% less CPU power consumption, and its CPU is 60% faster and GPU is 50% faster when compared to its dual core predecessor.

The battery will be a 1,700mAh one (bumped up from 1,600mAh), which will be tested when we get our hands on the device sometime soon. You will also get to play with an 8 MP BSI camera with an f/2.2 lens aperture, which means that you will be able to snap some good images in low light conditions.

There’s no microSD expansion, but the base model has 32GB of internal storage and it will cost the same as the current 16GB MX. When the device is released in June, it will have a price tag of US$480 in China and US$400 in Hong Kong, and the 64GB version will be yours for US$635 and US$530, respectively. Meanwhile, the original MX now costs ¥2,399 (US$380) and HK$2,599 (US$335).

So, anyone interested in the MX Quad-Core?

He was just trying to get them home, like how salmon return to their original birthplace to spawn. A security video has caught a smuggler red-handed with 30 Apple iPhones taped onto his body. He was trying to get them from Hong Kong into China, flipping the iPhone 4S for a quick buck.

The logic is fairly simple. You can buy an iPhone 4S in Hong Kong for $125 less than you’d pay for the same iPhone 4S in Mainland China. The smuggler, who you can see in the video below, strapped a bunch of iPhones on his chest and tried to walk across the port entry point. What I find strange is that he was only caught when security noticed the man couldn’t bend over to pick up his briefcase.

Don’t they have metal detectors like how they do at just about every airport? You would think that having thirty cell phones on your person would trigger that detector, right? In any case, a total of 3,000 smuggled iPhones have been confiscated since the beginning of the year. The irony is that they’re being smuggled primarily into Shenzhen, where the iPhone 4S is made in the first place.

Every Star Trek geek has dreamed of this day. We’ve all dreamed of setting our phasers to stun and making use of the Holodeck. Those two innovations aren’t quite here, but it seems like we’re getting closer to tractor beams.

Unlike regular lasers that push things away by plastic them with photons, a tractor beam would effectively be a laser that pulls things <me.>toward them. To do this, the Hong Kong scientists need something called a Bessel beam.

Also unlike regular lasers, Bessel beams remain focused at an infinite distance, rather than dispersing as it gets away from its source. Perhaps more interestingly, the Bessel beam is able to reconstruct itself past obstacles. It cannot be blocked.

Without digging too much into the science side of things, what this means it that scientists may be able to generate a large enough concentration of energy on the far side of the object and minimize the concentration of energy on the near side. The net result: the object is “pushed” toward the origin of the Bessel beam.

That’s some crazy stuff. Too bad, for now, it sounds like this is all theory and no practice. Where is Locutus of Borg when you need him?

Walk into just about any video game store and chances are that they sell some variety of Nintendo DS Lite case that can hold a couple of extra games. This new product takes this idea to a whole new level, because you can swap the games without ever touching the cartridges again.

The Blaze NDS Lite 3-in-1 Game Selector attaches to the back of your Nintendo DS Lite and there is a cable that fits into where you would normally slot your NDS game cartridge. Attached to the other end of the cable is a case that holds three game cartridges.

To swap between the three games, all you have to do is hit the switch and you’ll see the corresponding green indicator light. Using this, you never have to take out a cartridge to replace it with another; just hit the switch. That’s pretty cool.

There are at least a couple of things holding back this idea, however. First, it adds significant bulk to the “hood” of your Nintendo DS Lite, but it is pretty convenient. Second, I’m not entirely sure how compatible it is with the new Nintendo DSi, but it might work.

Retail price through some Hong Kong retailer is about US$13.
