This super retina display LG was showing off at Display Week boasts a 1920 x 1080 resolution, with an impressive 440 pixels per inch of the crispest, smoothest RGB you’ve ever seen on a 5-inch screen. Although we doubt Apple would go to LG for a display panel, this resolution would be in line with something we’d see out of Cupertino or Samsung’s labs in a next-gen smartphone. In fact, we’re pretty damn surprised Samsung didn’t reveal this first. The Galaxy S3 has a 1920 x 720 resolution display, which is AMOLED mind you, and 306 PPI, and available right now. We can expect one of LG’s upcoming Android handsets to pack this super retina with extremely high PPI count; it also features AH-IPS (advanced high-performance in-plan switching) which gives enhanced viewing angles. Not something for private emails on the metro, but with a crowd around you watching a YouTube flick, it’ll be perfect.

Back in February Mobile Magazine reported on the upcoming Nokia 808 PureView. At the time we were impressed by its amazing 41MP camera, Carl Zeiss lens, and the PureView imaging technology within it. Now, promotional advertising has began to circulate that is equally impressive, considering it was crafted using video and image stills taken directly by the smartphone itself.

Check out the video and expect to be surprised just how good it looks. The 808 PureView is all about a gorgeous design (at least in my opinion), a 4-inch 16:9 nHD AMOLED display (640×360), has a 1.3GHz Single-Core SoC, 512 MB of RAM, and 16 GB of internal memory. Oh, and of course its outstanding 41MP camera.

Unfortunately, it isn’t perfect thanks to one flaw, it runs Symbian OS not Windows Phone. I’m not saying Symbian wasn’t a good OS in its time, but its become rather outdated and the lack of apps will make it a little boring for some users. Hopefully its great video and photo-taking capabilities will make up for it, though.

The Nokia 808 PureView is expected to start shipping in May, though Nokia has yet to release official pricing information.

A new discussion has arisen from a teaser released this week picturing a smartphone covered with smoke. Next to the device, there is an invitation from HTC: “Come see what HTC has dreamt up 15 September in London”. It seems that HTC is pretty confident about their smartphone releases. However, recently leaked specifications from the yet to be released HTC phone makes us believe that they don’t know what they’re doing at all – features that have been available for some time now are still missing.

Although the teaser image does not give much information about the device, Photoshopers have managed to reveal some parts of it, which clearly leads us to believe a recently leaked phone: the Desire HD. At first, we thought it would be a nice phone, with high-end specs. Yet it seems to be missing some key features, such as the earlier mentioned HDMI-out, front facing camera, and kickstand.
That makes us wonder what exactly is HTC proud about? Is the Desire HD going to be the next flagship smartphone? And will they accept that their flagship has lesser specs than devices that are already out? We hope to have answers on September 15th from London.

If they don’t serve up some high-def goodness than they may be playing catch up to Android yet again. The Droid Xtreme was once thought to be the Shadow, but lacking the QWERTY slider on this one nixes that one. Photos show it running Android 2.1, a metallic shell bringing us back to the RAZR days, and a dedicated camera button. We here it’s coming to Verizon Wireless just after Apple’s iPhone HD release, other than that, not much else to go on this one until we here more from the mouth of the provider, or our leakster at Droid-Life.
