iOS Hackers Steve Troughton-Smith and @TheMudKip have been working hard to bring some iOS magic to Apple TV, specifically in bringing iOS Apps to your large screen without the sanctioned support of Apple. So far their progress is very promising, they have managed not only to install iOS Apps on the Apple TV, but also get apps to appear full screen. In the video below, the hack by @TheMudKip showed iOS Apps like Facebook, YouTube & Maps running in 720p fullscreen.

All this is made possible by MobileX, it’s just like a SpringBoard on the iPhone but this one is coded just for Apple TV. It will be from here where you would be able to launch iOS Apps.

@TheMudKip said that he “rewrote SpringBoard from scratch using only QuartzCore.”

Next comes the question of controlling your iOS Apps on the Apple TV. As we all know, iOS is a touch based OS and not a hardware controlled one. In its early stages the hackers used VNC to control the apps, but Steve confirmed that he had cooked up a hack to control the apps via Apple TV’s IR remote control.

“The built-in menu controlled by the remote allows you to quit apps, launch Safari, connect to Wi-Fi, or show multiple apps side by side,” he said. “Audio and video work well too so many games and media apps just work, like YouTube.”

While rumors are around about a secret Apple TV perhaps emerging officially from Apple, we are not sure if and when Apple may reveal their own television, regardless, with this hack it looks like we might be able to taste a bit of iTV a little sooner once MobileX is ready for primetime.

Will this make you get an Apple TV?

Oh Sony, how big and dangerous you have become. Many of you were excited with the latest news of PSN service coming back online shortly, but don’t jump up and down just yet, because Sony has just announced (as of May 3) that their Sony Online Entertainment PC games network was also hacked.

Sony said late Monday evening that names, addresses, emails, birth dates phone numbers and other information from 24.6 million PC games customers – sounds like your base belongs to us – was jacked from Sony’s data servers, including what we are told data from “outdated” databases from back in 2007.

This latest breach includes the theft of over 10,000 direct debit records from Austria, Germany, the Netherlands and Spain and over 12,000 non-U.S. credit or debit card numbers.

Sue Tanaka on behalf of Sony said “They are hackers. We don’t know where they’re going to attack next,” when asked if there could be a risk of other data being compromised.

Sony Facebook games are down now as well, since the new breach Sony was forced to take down the games.

This recent news may delay the PSN network from being revived which was originally expected sometime this week.

How do you feel about this? Comment below or hit up the official PSN Poll.

Well, whatever Gawker media did to get hacked and have their source code as well as their entire commenters email database released is besides the point here. They’ve been known to ruffle a few feathers, and it seems that someone (a hack group called Gnosis) is not taking it lightly. In fact, they are pretty pissed off. Gawker has been caught with their tail between their legs, and now its being pulled on. If you’re a commenter on Gawker media properties, like our friends over at Gizmodo, then your password is likely compromised. What this means is you better change it, use secure passwords that are not easily crackable, and don’t use the same password for every site you register on. Most of our devices save our passwords, so its easy to use strong passwords, with multiple upper case, lower case, numbers and weird characters.

The best thing for you to do to prevent yourself from being a victim is to use a password manager that encrypts your passwords. This may help if things like this happen to bigger properties, like Facebook. Here is the link to a few that will run on your iPhone, Androids and BlackBerry:

eWallet – iPhone and iPod Touch

Ascendo DataVault Password Manager – iPhone, BlackBerry, Mac OS, Windows

SplashID Secure Password Manager – iPhone, Android, Palm… almost every mobile OS

LastPass – iPhone, Android, Palm, Symbian.. almost every OS too

The lesson for today is keep your passwords strong, encrypted, and don’t underestimate hackers. All information on the internet can be obtained in some way by someone.

So now all we need is an .apk that works on the Samsung Galaxy S.
