When ZTE initially announced the Grand S at CES, they only mentioned details of the phone arriving in China. Now after some careful prying, ZTE Head of North American Business, Lixin Cheng has confirmed the 5-inch phone will make an appearance in the U.S. as well.

Cheng didn’t go in to details about when the Grand S will go on sale, or how much it will cost, but he did mention that the overall impression from carriers has been very positive.

The ZTE Grand S launched at CES earlier this week as the world’s thinnest 5-inch, 1080 quad-core phone, and features a Qualcomm S4 pro CPU, 2GB RAM, 13 mega-pixel rear camera and 5-inch 1080 Full High-Definition screen.

Although the Grand S isn’t scheduled to launch until later this month at CES, a few lucky people managed to get a first glimpse of the phone sporting a lime green finish at a design show in Shanghai yesterday.

ZTE staff showed the phone off along with promotional material depicting the 5-inch, quad-core phone in a number of attractive color choices including, black, white, grey, pink, and lime green shown in the photo below.

Those attending the show weren’t permitted to get any hands on time with the Grand S, but this didn’t stop talk of the phones specification sparking with sources continuing to suggest latest ZTE handset will receive a 5-inch 1080 display, quad-core processor, 2GB RAM, Android Jelly Bean and a 13 mega-pixel camera.

Interestingly the Grand S shares a near identical specification to the China only Nubia Z5 (ZTE’s new flagship brand), however it measures in at just 6.9mm and, if rumors are true, should cost around $450 ($100 less than the Nubia Z5).

It appears that ZTE is going to be releasing a new supposed superphone at CES 2013 early next year.  While there has been rumors and whispering of this in the past, it has now been confirmed by event information posted on the press page at CES.

The new phone will be called the ZTE Grand S and will feature a 1080p 5-inch display.  ZTE claims it will be the “world’s thinnest smartphone” in the 5 inch class, which consists of primarily consists of the HTC Droid DNA and several other phones that are on their way in the coming months.

While we have no further information as far as specs go, we would expect nothing less than a quad core chip, at least 1GB of RAM, 16 gigs of storage and an 8 MP camera.  But anything is possible, so we will just have to wait it out until January 8^th 2013.

One thing worth noting is the material used for the ZTE Grand S casing, which is said to be an unusual ceramic. Keep in mind that this is unconfirmed, though.

We will just have to wait and see what the Chinese ZTE comes out with. Does the limited information we have sound appealing to you?
