It seems that Google’s 7-inch tablet PC is schedule for a full release in July, with an initial batch of 600,000 units shipping as early as June. According to the information cited, supposedly from sources within the supply chain, Asus is co-developing the device and the entry-level tablet will be around $200 or less.

The tablet’s inner details aren’t known but we can probably expect Android 4.0 and a quad-core chip. The Google 7-inch tablet could easily go up against existing Android 7-inchers that dominate; the Kindle Fire. The tablet might even come at a time that will help it compete against the rumored iPad Mini. If the tablet is really coming as early as June, I’m sure we’ll here more official news about the device soon enough. Honestly, it strikes me as being a little odd that Motorola (which now finally belongs to Google) wasn’t involved in the device’s development. Who knows for sure. At least for a bit longer, I’d take this news with a grain of salt.

When it comes to tablets, we’ve grown accustomed to seeing the word “pad” or “tab” somewhere in the product name. We’ve got the iPad, Optimus Pad, Eee Pad, Galaxy Tab, and so on. That’s why it was almost refreshing when RIM decided to call its device the BlackBerry PlayBook. Now, it looks like Google could be borrowing a play out of that book… so to speak.

There are all kinds of rumors swirling around that Google is preparing a self-branded Android tablet, but apparently it’s not joining the Nexus family. Instead, it could be called the Google “Play” tablet. I imagine the boys and girls in Waterloo aren’t very happy about that, but at the same time, they’ve got some much bigger fish to fry at the moment.

It seems that Google has gone around and registered a number of domain names that have the word “play” in them. This might have to do with the tablet, or perhaps some sort of new software related to it, or maybe it has to do with something else entirely. What we do hear is that production could start as early as next month and the “Play” tablet could be a 7-incher preloaded with ICS. I wonder how Amazon feels about that.

Concept of Google's Chrome OS tablet

We’ve heard of a Google tablet dating as far back as April, now, a new rumor has surfaced saying the device will be released on Black Friday (November 26th) and it won’t be running Android. I’m a bit surprised, as Android would be a huge jump into the tablet world considering the vast array of apps already in the Marketplace. I’m guessing Google is wanting to keep Android for smartphones, while making Chrome OS the system to run tablets.

Details are scarce, but the speculation points to an HTC made device, with Nvidia’s Tegra 2 platform with an eye popping 1280×720 display, 2GB Ram, 32GB SSD, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, LTE connectivity (looking at Verizon), a front facing camera, and perhaps a card reader and expansion slot. It’s really up in the air, but I would guess the screen size will be between 7 and 9-inches. The source came forward to Download Squad, where they notified them of the iPad competetor. Most of this makes sense, especially HTC being the maker since they did make the G1 (Google Phone). What doesn’t make a whole lot of sense is picking the busiest shopping day of the year, perhaps Google knows something we don’t know, it wouldn’t be the first time either
