Back in last December, Google Apps business subscribers got to play with Quickoffice for iPad for free. Now Google Apps users can use the Quickoffice app for editing Microsoft Office documents on iPhone and Android as well, and yes it’s available for free.

With the app you will be able to edit, create and view Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents and then save or share documents through your Google Drive account. Google Drive might become capable of natively opening those types of files and editing them in the future, but until then Quickoffice is what you will need.

If interested, Android users can download from here and the iOS version is available here. As for those of you who don’t have a Google Apps for Business account, you can check out Quickoffice Pro which is available as a paid app priced between $15 to $20. So, are you downloading it already?

Do you use Google Apps for your small or medium-sized business? While there won’t be any major changes to current users, Google has now announced that it will no longer be offering the free version of Google Apps anymore. This only applies to new sign-ups, so existing users are in the clear for now.

This news comes by way of an email that one of the Google Apps free users received from Google. He only has a small personal blog and a single account, so “there isn’t anything that changes but I’m worried that in the future they might disable the free service.”

Google has typically offered a free option for any of its premium services, but this could indicate some changes moving forward. In any case, if you want to upgrade to the Google Apps for Business, it’ll cost you $5 per user per month. That gives you a 25GB inbox, business controls, and 24/7 customer support. they guarantee 99.9% uptime too.

You’ve developed what you believe to be a groundbreaking Android app, only to have it slammed by some unfair user reviews. Google is now allowing devs to reply to these comments in the Google Play Store. It’s only fair, really.

The idea is quite simple. When there is a review posted in the Google Play Store for your app, you can click on through and give an inline reply. This helps to improve communication between developers and customers, of course, but it also helps to clarify any problems that these users might be having. This way, people who are downloading the app for the first time will understand how to overcome certain problems (that may not actually be problems in the first place). This helps to reduce your customer support costs too.

That’s the good news. The bad news is that this “reply” function is currently only available to those of you with a Top Developer Badge. After presumably ironing out any kinks in the system, the feature should be made available to all the other app developers in the audience.

Rumors about a so-called Nexus tablet from Google have been flying around for a while. What you see above comes to us from Pocketnow and the pictured device is purported to be the search giant’s upcoming tablet. Could it be the cheap stock Android Nexus tablet meant to compete against the new iPad?

As we reported earlier, the Nexus tablet (or whatever it will be called, if it’s coming that is) is expected to have a 7-inch display and will be coming from Asus sometime this summer. If this is indeed the Nexus tablet that we are looking at, it looks more like a ten-inch slate.

It looks like it has some qualities of an upcoming Google tablet. The generic Ice Cream Sandwich OS is displaying only official ICS and Google apps; there are no third party apps or widgets visible.

But, anyone who is an expert in Photoshop can create such an image very accurately, and also we are suspicious about the presence of the Android Market icon instead of the Google Play Store (yes, it could mean that it’s an older render too). The folks over at Pocketnow are also not talking about a source. That does not mean that the image is a fake, but the image does not provide us with any good evidence to prove that it is real.

There are no hints about specs, price or the release date, but previous rumors point towards a device with a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor and a $199 price tag.

Just to let you know, Android Community is saying that the above device looks similar to the 7.7-inch Tegra 3 tablet from Toshiba which was shown off at CES.

Oh the irony of it all. We’ve all seen the commercials where Microsoft is telling us to go “to the cloud,” but now the Big M has unleashed a vicious campaign aimed squarely at attacking the cloud-based solution we know as Google Apps. You know they’d rather you use Microsoft Office, of course.

In the “Googlighting” video below (which is ironically hosted on YouTube, a Google product), the unnamed company executive accuses the “Googlighting stranger” of turning her employees into “lab rats” for Google Apps. She is visibly concerned that Google will “change your software while we’re using it.” The faux Google rep says that they’re “pioneers” and the the software could “improve” or just disappear altogether.

The crux of the argument is that Google Apps is a “side project” for the search engine and ad sales giant, whereas Microsoft Office is more of a core product for Microsoft. I’m not sure I really buy into this marketing campaign, but it does show that the folks in Redmond, Washington are ready to bear their teeth.
