Earlier in the year we reported on Nvidia’s Project Shield Android mobile gaming console. Now Project Shield demonstrates, in a video, its ability to wirelessly pair its Nvidia Project Shield handheld gaming console with a PC. In the video they access their game titles on their PC by simply having a GeForce GTX 680 enabled PC with the software installed.

The Nvidia Shield sports a Tegra 4 processor, a custom 72 core GPU all being controlled by the dual analog control sticks and the 4 trigger controls. Click play below to watch the Nvidia gaming console in action!

“In this episode, we take you through a demo of Project SHIELD playing Need for Speed: Most Wanted via a GeForce GTX 680-enabled PC. You’ll see how the best quality graphics from the PC combine with the smooth dual analog

The Nvidia Project Shield has managed to create an awesome handheld gaming system with enough horsepower to play titles traditionally only available on your stationary consoles. Is this the future of gaming as we know it or do you think that pricing and other issues will hold it back from taking the mobile gaming world by storm? Let us know what you think in the comment section below.

The younger crowd probably won’t see the point of this, but this could be awesome for those of us who killed endless days with our first handheld game system, the GameBoy. Chad Boughton, missing the tactile response of those 2 simple buttons and direction pad decided to swap out the dot matrix display in his GameBoy for his Galaxy Nexus’ Super AMOLED display.

Chad first removed the GameBoy screen and trimmed the case so a GNex case could be flushly mounted to the rest of the GameBoy body. His next challenge was to get the buttons to work wirelessly with the phone. He trimmed up the GameBoy’s circuit board to make room for the inner workings of a Wii Remote which he connected to the buttons of the GameBoy. After that he simply installed the Wii Controller IME app so the GameBoy would communicate with the Nexus. Below you can see a video of this awesome mod in action as well as some explanation of the construction.

I really hope some company takes the reins of this and produces a consumer version of this for the masses, I know I’d buy one!

We all love the 80s and 90s, and it’s always great when something from that era comes back alive, isn’t it? What’s coming this time around is a new handheld version of a console, the Neo Geo. It has been confirmed that the Neo Geo X is coming in Q2 of 2012.

Retro games often lose their lustre, you go back 5 or 10 years later with a hope of reigniting that once lost flame, only to be left thinking, meh. It was better before. We are pretty sure that the arrival of the Neo Geo X — which will be shipping with classic Neo Geo titles on board — is going to give you a similar unsatisfied feeling.

The upcoming console will be coming equipped with a 3.5 inch LCD screen, SD card expansion, an A/V output, stereo speakers and a headphone port. Yes, a headphone port. You will be able to enjoy 20 licensed built in games (check out the titles below) and it is said to be priced “in a more affordable manner”, although it is not, unfortunately. In fact, despite what the marketers say, the Neo Geo people are going to be laughing all the way to the bank, if anyone buys it that is.

According to available info, the console has been confirmed for UK and US and it will come with a redonkulous price tag of around £500 (close to $800 USD!). That’s quite a small fortune for taking a trip down memory lane. But we know that some people might find the new handheld priceless. And those people can keep it in the closet next to the unopened Luke Skywalker action figure box while everyone else is playing real games on iPad and Android tablets.

But wait, there’s more. The new Turrican-inspired 2D shooter game named Gunlord is also coming for the Neo Geo and Dreamcast; the cartridge will cost around $570, what, did you think all the games were going to be free?

Of course, some might ask why the developers didn’t make the game for PC. Devin Coldewey over at Techcrunch has all the answers: “For the same reason some people still choose to write their novels on a typewriter, or paint with real brushes, or put their album out on vinyl. ” Or something.

Incase you have thousands of dollars burning a hole in your pocket, probably the same pocket of those Levi red tab jeans you bought in 1987 and are wearing now, then these Neo Geo X games may interest you:

Art Of Fighting, Baseball Stars, Cyber Lip, Fatal Fury, Fatal Fury Special, Football Frenzy, King Of The Monsters, Last Resort, League Bowling, Magician Lord, Metal Slug, Mutation Nation, Nam 1975, Samurai Shodown, Sengoku, Super Sidekicks, The King Of Fighters’94, The Ultimate 11, Top Players Golf, World Heroes.

Today’s software can certainly perform magic and it’s always fun to learn about new developments, especially when it is coming with endless possibilities. The picture posted alongside is not taken from a primitive video game from the previous decade, but from a new game which has been designed almost entirely by an AI called Angelina.

The game definitely is not going to give you an experience similar to the latest iteration of Call of Duty, but still, Angelina’s Space Station Invaders is a pretty impressive work. Created by Michael Cook, a computer scientist at Imperial College London, the AI builds games using a technique called cooperative co-evolution.

In Space Station Invaders (check out the game here), you have to control a scientist for fighting off rogue robots and invading aliens to escape a space station. For the game, Angelina designed different aspects such as level layout, enemy behaviour and power-ups, and assembled them randomly. Then the AI simulated a human playing the game for determining the most effective designs. The process is repeated around 400 times for creating the best designs.

But the AI is not yet capable of creating a game all by itself, the graphics and sound effects are added by Cook. But it’s a good start and the software can be developed into something big.

And Cook has the answer for game developers who think that the AI might bring days of unemployment for them. Cook says that he likes “to think that Angelina won’t steal anyone’s job, I think it will actually be a really positive force for designers”. He believes that Angelina can be used as a tool for making improvements to games build by developers. But isn’t that what they all say? “Oh no, the robot won’t take your job at the automobile assembly line.”

Head here to know more about Angelina.
