If you are into fitness and technology, you might be into the PowerBIKE. This new stationary bicycle by Power Plate is a re-envisioning of what an indoor stationary bike can be. The makers are cycling enthusiasts who wanted to infuse a standard, and maybe even boring piece of indoor fitness equipment with a bit of excitement and technological flair.

The tech that makes this bike different is a unique pedal and crank system that produces mechanical vibrations. The vibrations serve to create more muscle stimulation for the legs and glutes with every pedal stroke. While it is designed to help you burn more calories and build more muscle, a special stabilization system reduces joint pressure. The makers also say that their bike can improve circulation.

In an attempt to make indoor cycling more exciting, Power Plate claims the PowerBIKE moves like an outdoor road bike, doing things that normal stationary bikes and trainers just can’t do. This bike is designed to simulate, through adjustments in resistance and its vibration technology, all sorts of terrain conditions from mountain paths to cobblestone streets.

There is little additional information out on the PowerBIKE. It isn’t available for the general public yet, but at least one professional cycling team is known to be using the PowerBIKE for practice. Pricing is not available yet for this new stationary cycle, but if the cost of Power Plate’s other fitness products are any indication, expect to spend a few thousand dollars to take home your own PowerBIKE when it hits the market.

The iPod shuffle is pretty small, but it doesn’t do you much good when you want to go for a dip in the pool with Michael Phelps. For that, you may be much more inclined to check out the UWaterG2 from Fitness Technologies, Inc. They’ve developed the world’s smallest 100% waterproof MP3 player.

From what I can see, it offers a similar clip-like mechanism as the iPod shuffle, but it can head into up to ten feet of water without skipping a beat. It doesn’t appear to be quite as thin, but you could easily clip the player to your goggles or headband. Naturally, you’ll want to make the UWaterG2 with a suitable set of underwater headphones too. It comes with some extendable (12-40″) stereo waterproof earphones, plus four sets of silicon ear-tips and an armband.

Available in five different colors — black/yellow, black/red, black/blue, black, and ice white — the UWaterG2 waterproof MP3 player comes in your choice of three capacities too. Prices start at $59.95 for the tiny 2GB player, but you can upgrade to the 4GB or 8GB model if you prefer too. From what I can gather, it doesn’t have a conventional display (like the iPod shuffle), but it does have a “highly visible multi-color LED mode control” (unlike the shuffle).

I can’t imagine the UWaterG2 replacing your main MP3 player any time soon, especially if you’re the type to use your Android phone or iPhone for that purpose, but it looks like an interesting option for the swimmers or other water sport individuals. Just make sure your silicon ear tips provide a good seal; otherwise, you won’t be able to tell the difference between Annie Lennox and Lenny Kravitz.
