Growing up, one of my favorite supercars had to be the Ferrari F40. It was just a gorgeous machine that was remarkably fast. Ferrari is continuing the long-standing tradition with the upcoming Ferrari F70 and, yes, she’s a beauty.

Now, while these may look like real photos of the Ferrari F70 upon some European motorways, they’re not; instead, these are just really, really good renderings of the Italian sports car. The renderings are derived from actual spy shots and should be reasonably accurate. We’ll be able to confirm these kinds of details when the F70 is supposedly revealed to the world at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.

As I understand it, this is the successor to the Ferrari Enzo, which was colloquially called the F60 in some circles, since it followed the Ferrari F50. The Ferrari F70, which may receive a new name when it is officially announced, has a rumored top speed of 250mph with a 0-60mph time of 2.5 seconds. People are saying there will be a massive V12 in there to push out that kind of power.

I’m just hoping that the boffins at Top Gear UK get their hands on this car sooner rather than later. Jeremy Clarkson just might say that this is the most beautiful supercar “in the world.”

The fastest thing ever to come out of Croatia may just be Rimac Automibili’s Concept One electric sports. The electric racer is expected to go into production and their expected performance numbers is threatening to put gas-guzzling Ferarris and Lamborghinis to shame. Rimac brought the Concept One to the Top Marques Monaco event last week, officially opening reservations and deposits for a delivery which will start in 2013.

The Italians are likely to cringe and cry: Mama Mia! A million for a Croatian sportscar! But does the car, which has the curves, really have the juice to upstage the Italians?

Rimac claims that their all-electric “1088 hp” beauty is capable of doing “0 to 62 mph (100 kph) in just 2.8 seconds” and that too carrying the bulky battery packs which will give it a range of 372 miles (600km). Not to mention the massive “1,180 lb-ft (1,600 Nm) of torque” the company is sure its electric motors are capable of.

If you find these numbers rather ambitious, just have a look at the exorbitant stats Rimac came out with last year when Concept One was first unveiled – a whopping 2,800 lb-ft (3,500 Nm) torque. They have had the good sense to cut the torque figures down to half now. And with the existing technology, the first owners of the car might see the numbers further more down to earth, unless of course the designers have used alien performance enhancement packs in the car.

Rimac will roll out only 88 models of Concept One, which will have separate, special drive motors for each of its wheels.

And talking about wheels, the Croats have gone an extra mile to get the best performance rubber for their beauty, choosing Vredestein Ultrac Vorti high-performance tyres which the designers believe is capable of delivering the best grip when operated with Rimac’s four in-wheel motors.

Hope the petrol-heads who read this still have their eyes in their sockets, for Ferrari’s move will be shocking, to most. But it is not time to panic yet. Ferrari’s yet-to-be-named hybrid, set to roll out in 2013, will stick to the sporting traditions of the beauties coming out of Maranello.

It will be interesting to see how exactly Ferrari manages the performance similar to that of Enzo, which had a petrol-run V-12 and could hit 60 mph in just 3.14 seconds. It also had technology borrowed form Ferrari’s Formula One race division, including electro-hydraulic transmission and a carbon-fiber body.

Ferrari will also have to find means to overcome the design limitations of a bulky battery pack. Sources say Samsung will supply the lithium-ion cells for the hybrid. The folks at Maranello are looking to improve performance while reducing fuel consumption. Surprising for a sports car manufacturer right?

So, they’re borrowing from F1 again to achieve that. Ferrari revealed that they have brought down fuel consumption by around 40 percent thanks to its “HY-KERS” hybrid system, while also decreasing acceleration time from 0 to 124 mph by roughly three seconds. But the hybrid system adds to the overall weight, around 264 pounds to be exact. Ferrari is hoping to cut weight in the chassis, body and powertrain, which means more F1 technology, including a carbon-fiber shell, will be employed.

Ferrari cars come with custom-made plush leather interiors. Vertu’s Constellation Quest Ferrari doesn’t fall short in that category either: the front portion of the handset has leather exteriors with the Cavellino Rampante logo embossed on it.

Is it a sports car? Is it a Blackberry? Maybe, it’s Vertu’s Ferrari-inspired new luxury phone.

The Constellation Quest Ferrari by Vertu derives its inspiration from the sharp curves of the Italian sports car manufacturer’s ‘458 Italia’ car. And yes, it comes with the iconic Ferrari logo too, the prancing horse. Ferrari cars come with custom-made plush leather interiors. Vertu’s Constellation Quest Ferrari doesn’t fall short in that category either: the front portion of the handset has leather exteriors with the Cavellino Rampante logo embossed on it. And it needn’t be said that the leather is the same hand-made Italian calf ones used by Ferrari in its cars.

The luxury smartphone is made from polished stainless steel which makes it sturdy. Vertu has even included a titanium battery cover for the handset: Super cool, isn’t it? To add to it, polished sapphire crystal and polished black ceramic are also used in crafting the handset. But the speedometer and tachometer are missing!

Aha! Vertu has found an answer for that too. The Constellation Quest Ferrari, which is handmade by a single craftsman, has a new analogue clock which is inspired by the rev-counter on the ‘458 Italia’. This is the second time that Vertu has collaborated with Ferrari in bringing out a luxury handset. Their first courtship resulted in the Ascent Ferrari GT, a much sexier looking outcome than Blackberry and Porsche had with their ugly P’9981 offspring. We can only image what the price of this one will ring in at.

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemelo has stated explicitly that there will never be an electric Ferrari. "You will never see a Ferrari electric because I don't believe in electric cars, because I don't think they represent an important step forward for pollution or CO2 or the environment. But, we are working very, very hard on the hybrid Ferrari.

There is certainly a push towards having more environmentally friendly vehicles these days. Between the Volt, Leaf, Tesla, RAV4 EV, and countless others, electric vehicles seem to be picking up steam. But not in Italy. In fact, Ferrari president Luca di Montezemelo has stated explicitly that there will never be an electric car under the famed horse brand.

“You will never see a Ferrari electric because I don’t believe in electric cars, because I don’t think they represent an important step forward for pollution or CO2 or the environment. But, we are working very, very hard on the hybrid Ferrari. This should be the future, and I hope in a couple of years you can see it.”

Kudos. I think we all have to recognize that while it is certainly worthwhile to consider how we can be more environmentally friendly in our daily commutes, supercars like Ferraris fall under a different category altogether. They’re not about getting MPGs and reducing CO2s; they’re about getting more MPH and faster times around the Nurburgring. They are true racing machines, and except for the occasional mid-life crisis and rap video, we don’t see them on our roads anyway. I wonder what Montezemelo would think about the EV Cup coming to the US this November.

Though it’s odd that after shooting down EVs he says hybrids are something they’re working on. Watch it be a 400hp gas engine mated with a 5hp electric assist.

Acer has teamed up with Ferrari to manufacture the Liquid E Ferrari special edition smartphone. The device comes loaded with Ferrari-themed content, like videos, photos and ringtones of Ferrari engines, in addition to the obvious external themed Ferrari red color and emblem.

What is surprising is that Acer has opted for Android 2.1 OS on the Ferrari phone, but not so surprising since they are dealing with Ferrari; speed is key. Running a 768MHz Snapdragon processor, 5 megapixel camera, MicroSD slot with support for 32GB chips, Wi-Fi (wow), Bluetooth, all connected to your 3G HSDPA network. Pricing has yet to be announced, but keep your eyes peeled for anyone walking around with a bright red Ferrari Bluetooth headset, as that’s one of the incentives (or not) to owning the Acer Liquid E.

It doesn’t end there. Acer also released an update to their computing line with the Ferrari One netbook. With an AMD Athlon X2 dual-core processor, this One has 2GB DDR2 800 MHz RAM, 160GB HDD and some HyperTransport 3.0 technology behind it. ATI also got in with the Radeon HD graphics chipset. As a 64-bit system, it’s running on Windows 7 Ultimate. An 11.6-inch LED backlit display, Wi-Fi, and all the traditional bells and whistles; this one’s selling for 650 euro with a free Ferrari F1 championship valve exclusive to Ferrari.com.
