Samsung is known for incorporating new technology into their cameras and they have just introduced three new cameras into the company’s NX Series of compact, mirrorless, interchangeable lens cameras – the NX1000, NX20 and NX210. Unlike other large sensor cameras which might require you to use an Eye-Fi memory card for getting online, the new NX models are coming with built-in Wi-Fi.

Coming equipped with Samsung’s own 20.3 megapixel APS-C (23.5 x 15.7 mm) CMOS sensor, all the models feature ISO100 – 12800 sensitivity, one button upload to social networking sites, in-camera editing, 2D and 3D Panorama modes, the i-Function system which will allow you to control parameters at the lens, and are compatible with the full range of nine lenses.

The cameras will wirelessly link to a Samsung smartphone via the SMART technology and you can use the handset as a remote viewfinder, and the Samsung Mobile Link will allow you to enjoy the shots you have taken on internet enabled TVs or tablets. The models also feature Full HD 1080p H.264 video recording, and also offer an unusual 1920 x 810 pixel resolution setting.

Among the three new cameras, the above pictured NX1000 has the best resolution display at 921,000 dots on a 3-inch TFT LCD panel. Its 1030mAh battery promises 320 shots between charges and it will be available in black, white or pink in June, but no hints on the price tag. And no built-in flash, but you can attach external lighting.

The NX20 has a DSLR-like body and features an SVGA-resolution electronic viewfinder and a 3-inch, 614,000 dot AMOLED swivel display. It also comes with a fast 1/8000 shutter speed, a pop-up flash, and will allow you to take 360 stills between charges all thanks to its 1300mAh rechargeable battery. If interested, you can pick one up next month for $1,099.99.

The NX210 is also coming next month and it will take the place of the NX200. Featuring the same AMOLED display as the NX 20, the NX210 is coming with 8 fps continuous shooting. No built-in flash for this one as well, but external units can be attached. Similar to the NX1000, the NX210 has a 1030mAh battery for taking 320 stills in between charges. The camera comes with a price tag of $899.99.

The idea behind the Eye-Fi memory card is pretty brilliant and you’ve heard it all before, but what if you’re traveling about and need to offload some of that content before continuing with the shoot? The new Eye-Fi Mobile X2 could be the ticket, now that they’ve got something called Direct Mode too.

Basically, instead of going via the Internet to upload content, the Eye-Fi Mobile X2 creates its own Wi-Fi hotspot. Your iPhone, iPad, or Android device can then launch the corresponding app, connect to that new Wi-Fi network, and see the images you take with your camera “instantly” appear on your iPhone, iPad, or Android device.

Should you choose, you can then use the associated data plan on your mobile device and upload the pictures to Flickr, Tumblr, or whatever else. Alternatively, I think a great use for this is in presentations and seminars. Take a photo and have them instantly appear on the iPads that you hand out to attendees. or something like that.

The good news is that you can get the new Direct Mode without having to buy a new card. Owners of the older Eye-Fi X2 cards can get Direct Mode as a free upgrade. If you’re looking for a new card, then the 8GB Eye-Fi Mobile X2 is $79.99 and the existing Eye-Fi Pro X2 will be reduced from $149.99 to $99.99.

Pentax Imaging Company has released three new compact digital cameras ranging from $99 up to $299 USD. The additions are to the Optio line, including an HD video capable camera that can capture 720p images at 30FPS.

The most affordable of the bunch is the Optio E90, priced at $99.95 USD, the E90 sports a 10 megapixel CCD, 3x wide angle zoom (32mm-96mm equivalent) and a large 2.7 inch LCD housed in a luxurious rubber coated body for a sure grip. It uses standard Aas for ease of replacement when on the road, ISO 6400 for use in very low light, a Digital SR (Shake Reduction) mode, and two lovely choices of Black or Wine Red.

Pentax’s Optio H90 digital camera looks simple, features a 5x wide angle optical zoom lens (28mm-140mm equivalent), a 12.1 megapixel high resolution CCD sensor, and widescreen HD video capture at 720p and 30 FPS. Pentax touts blur-free images by way of the improved Pixel Track Shake Reduction technology. Three to choose from, Orange-Silver, Matte Black and Ceramic White for $179.95.

Finally, the Pentax Optio I-10, somewhat designed to mimic an SLR, the I-10 still has a fixed lens but with 5X optical zoom lens (28mm-140mm equivalent), a 12.1 megapixel high resolution CCD sensor, a 2.7 inch widescreen LCD, and HD video capture at 720p and 30 FPS. Similar Shake Reduction and Face Detection, the I-10 adds support for a remote control (sold separately), comes in Classic Black and Pearl White for $299.95 USD.

Both the Optio I-10 and Optio H90 now have Eye-Fi connectivity, this will allow you to use wireless memory cards. All cameras ship this February 2010. Pentax is taking pre-orders now on their online store.
