When I was a kid I had an old RC car that could barely travel at ½ mph, ran out of juice quickly, and made really cheap sounding car noises. Honestly, I absolutely loved that cheap-old RC but the newest model from Traxxas certainly puts it to shame.

The new Traxxas XO-1 is capable of going from 0-60MPH in just 2.3 seconds and can hit 100MPH in 4.92 seconds. Traxxas claims that its new device is the fastest ready-to-race RC. Based on the video demonstration and the touted specifications, I really don’t doubt their claim.

This speed devil will set you back $1,110 and won’t hit until December 30th. There are plenty of features to love about this RC including a docking base that turns your iPhone or iPod Touch into a powerful tuning tool, a heavy-duty drivetrain, computer optimized aerodynamics, and plenty more.

This sounds like a cool purchase for those who have large stretches of empty land or road to practice, or for those who compete with RC cars. At the same time so much power and speed leaves me a little worried about who ends up purchasing the XO-1. I just hope the owners practice responsibility and that it doesn’t end up in the hands of some mischievous eight year old out there (shudders).

Check out the video below to see what the XO-1 can do:

Better late than never? If you’re desperately out shopping for Christmas presents this week, you might want to to stop by your local Microsoft Store if you have one in your area. No, don’t go there to buy a Zune or a Windows 7 license. Instead, you might want to check out the ExoPC tablet.

The iPad still dominates in this space, but Microsoft really wants you to think about this Intel-basd tablet running on Windows 7. Yes, it comes from a somewhat obscure manufacturer, but the 11.6-inch (1366×768) display and Atom N450 processor aren’t that bad. It’s also nice that it rocks a 64GB SSD. To help cover up the not exactly finger-friendly Windows 7 Home Premium, they’ve also tossed in a custom skin to make it a little more usable.

That’s the good news. The bad news is that battery life is rated at a paltry four hours and it’s ringing in for pre-orders at $699. That’s the same price as a 64GB iPad (WiFi-only), but I’d say a Wintel tablet has to be cheaper than the Cupertino counterpart to really compete on this front, regardless of the SDHC expansion, integrated 1.3-megaixel webcam, dual USB 2.0 ports and HDMI output.

The Apple iPad isn't the only giant touchscreen tablet device, you know. We've been hearing about the ExoPC handheld for some time, but now we've finally managed to find a hands-on video with the slate. Based on what we see, it looks awfully impressive.

Set to be showcased at Computex Taipei early next month, the ExoPC "slate" is a tablet device that comes powered by a full build of Windows 7. Despite using a true desktop operating system as its platform, the slate actually has a pretty good bootup time and the video playback is "flawless."

The post Video: ExoPC slate with Windows 7 demonstrated appeared first on Mobile Magazine.

The Apple iPad isn’t the only giant touchscreen tablet device, you know. We’ve been hearing about the ExoPC handheld for some time, but now we’ve finally managed to find a hands-on video with the slate. Based on what we see, it looks awfully impressive.

Set to be showcased at Computex Taipei early next month, the ExoPC “slate” is a tablet device that comes powered by a full build of Windows 7. Despite using a true desktop operating system as its platform, the slate actually has a pretty good bootup time and the video playback is “flawless.”

It’ll be interesting to see how these Windows-fueled tablets will compete against the polish and marketing prowess of the iPad, but as is the case with all things electronic, competition is good. You know, especially since the HP Slate is dead in the water (for now).

They haven’t released any pricing information, but we do hear that they’ll have four different models available for purchase. The ExoPC slate will start out with a 32GB WiFi version as the entry-level unit, and then get bumped to include 32GB WiFi+3G/GPS, 64GB WiFi, and 64GB WiFi+3G/GPS.
