Little is yet known about the Huawei T62W ereader, including screen resolution and what type of e-book formats it will support. The operating system also remains a mystery although it’s rumored to be the Android OS. What we do know is that it comes with a 6-inch white-on-gray screen that is sensitive to the touch. This is a nice deviation from the space-hogging Kindle keyboard and no-touch. Other expected features include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G connectivity, microSDHC and SIM card slots.

Taiwanese manufacturer Asus who pioneered the netbook concept, has just released few details of its new DR-570 e-book reader. DR-570 is still in development but is said to have a 5.7-inch OLED display, sharp 1024×768 resolution, a 0.03 second refresh rate with high-brightness and contrast. Storage will be by flash memory, bundled with a 4GB SDHC card and packing 512MB of RAM. Under real-world conditions, the 1530 mAh battery is said to run an astonishing 122 hours on just one charge.

It will be able to stream Flash video over its integrated WiFi or 3G connection. The DR-570 is set to be released by the end of 2010, with no exact price tag yet. While we would usually expect it to cost a bundle, we are hoping that by being an ASUS brand we might be able to afford one of these.

Qualcomm’s Mirasol display technology has the potential to upend the e-book reader market, and possibly cause some issues for the LCD-based slate PCs.

The 5.7-inch prototype Qualcomm is displaying could be Kindle-bound, XGA version, which is 240ppi pixel density and a 6x power advantage over E-ink in a typical usage scenario. The display is full color – reportedly it works better in a brightly lit environment than the competition. The display could be paired with a capacitive or resistive touchscreen, a best case scenario is apparently optical touch. Reportedly the Mirasol uses less power – and is supposed to be faster than current technologies.
