The Droid Razr M 4G LTE is on its way, and despite no official announcement yet, we know just about everything there is to know about the upcoming Droid Razr Maxx successor.

The new Razr M 4G LTE features a dual-core 1.5GHz MSM8960 Snapdragon S4 processor, 8GB internal storage, 1GB of RAM, 8MP rear camera, 3MP front camera, NFC, microSD, WIFI, Bluetooth, GPS and Android 4.0 ICS.
Rumors previously claimed that the Razr M would be called the Droid HD, but in reality this isn’t quite HD after all, with a 4.3-inch qHD 960×540 AMOLED display with Gorilla Glass 2.

While a higher-resolution display would have been nice, overall these are pretty good specs. Sure, this phone isn’t nowhere near as powerful as what LG has up its sleeve, but it’s still an interesting looking handset. What we don’t know for sure about the Razr M is pricing, battery info and specific launch date information. More than likely the upcoming September 5th press event should cover the remaining mysteries behind the new Droid.
What do you think so far? Are you looking forward to the newest Droid?

The new trend that seems to be sweeping the corporate world is to sue one another back and forth over any and every minor little patent infringement. While this might be nothing new, it certainly has gotten out of hand recently, with the biggest players in the war including Google, Samsung, Apple, Microsoft and Motorola.

The latest development sees a ban on all Motorola Android devices in Germany, under the basis that these phones violate a patent that has to do with FAT storage. Considering how old the FAT standard is, it is very surprising that this actually managed to pass through. Apparently the patent, EP0618540, has to do with common name space for long and short file names. More than likely the next step here will either be a licensing negotiation for the technology or a flat-out change in the way the phones use storage and file formats.

In order to actually enforce an injunction and get the ban to go through Microsoft will have to put up a massive bond of 10 million Euro. For a company like Microsoft though, that’s pretty much chump change, but we’ll wait and see what happens next in this Microsoft and Motorola legal battle.

It seems that Motorola has now released information on its timetable for ICS updates to its smartphones and tablets. Wondering when your update is coming? Wonder no longer. It seems that ICS rollouts will be broken out into three categories – those rolling out in Q2 of this year, those in Q3, and those that will have “further details follow”.

For Q2 we have the Xoom Wi-Fi only, RAZR, Xoom Family Edition, MT917 and XT928. In the third quarter ICS will make its way over to the Atrix 2, Atrix 4G, Photon 4G, Xoom 2, Xoom 2 Media Edition, Xyboard 8.2, and Xyboard 10.1.

Finally, the Droid 4, Droid Bionic, Droid RAZR, and Droid RAZR MAXX fall under the “further details to follow”. What exactly does that mean? That could be anyone’s guess. I find it somewhat out that the Droid series is the only devices being kept in the dark on solid ICS information, though.

Late is better than never, I suppose.

Just a few days ago we got wind of a new Motorola Droid Maxx ad. To me, it meant a release of the Maxx was imminent, and apparently this hunch proves true. The Motorola Droid Maxx has officially been confirmed to be available in Verizon stores this Thursday. While there is plenty to get excited about in regards to the Droid Maxx, it’s the 21-hour battery life on one charge that is the most epic feature being touted. So for those out there that are really, really social: be prepared to talk, text, and browse you hearts out with the Droid Maxx.

Earlier this month amid the sea of Droid-related news (such as the rumors of a Droid 4), we first got wind of the new Droid RAZR MAXX. Despite the time that has passed we have yet to see it on the store shelves, though rumors seem to suggest that January 26th might be the release date.

A new promotional video, showing Motorola taking to the streets to show off the MAXX may suggest that the release is nearly imminent. For those that don’t know, the MAXX is an updated version of the existing Droid RAZR but boasts one major improvement: a battery that supposedly can provide up to 21 hours of talk time. This should prove great for those that don’t want to be teetered to the charging cord everyday or simply want to leave 4G LTE on all the time while constantly streaming content.

Motorola’s Droid 4 has been getting a lot of attention recently, especially for a device that hasn’t even officially been announced. It started with information surrounding leaked specs for the device and now has escalated with Techno Buffalo managing to get their hands on a Droid 4 demo unit.

While the device isn’t a working unit, it does give us a much better idea of how the phone will look and feel.

If rumor proves correct, the Droid 4 will feature a 4” display with a 960×540 resolution, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB internal storage, microSD expansion, an 8MP rear camera, an HD front facing camera, HDMI output, and a 1,785mAh battery.

Droid 4 cases and even a Droid 4 photo appeared on Best Buy for a Reward Zone promotion. If Verizon doesn’t get their 4G LTE issues sorted out before its launch, it could be a hairy launch for the RAZR look-a-like.

For now, this is all just speculation, though its starting to look more and more like solid fact. I wouldn’t be surprised if an official announcement and launch date comes around near 2012 CES in a few days.

Motorola officially announced that their Droid Bionic would see an upgrade to Android 4.0 in the coming months, however some users may get the taste of Ice Cream Sandwich on their devices right now.

Alpha release of a custom CyanogenMod9 port named Ics4Bionic has found its way to Droid masses at the Droid Forums. Features of this ICS port include:

What works:
Graphics working smooth now
ADB is working so we can track the rest
Touchscreen
Capacitive buttons
Charging indicator
BlueTooth
Both SD Cards
Built-in Screenshot
Reboot menu
Phone and SMS works
GPS fully functional
Audio fully working
1x data now working
NOTE: you may have to dial *#*#4636#*#* (or use Phone Info from the market) and toggle data mode between modes. For me toggling to GSM or WCDMA and then back to CDMA only usually does it. Once you see the status change to unknown leave it there it takes up to a minute to connect.

Not working:
3G/4G data….still sorting it out
USB support is still in progress sometimes it will mount in windows
Camera

Usual caveats and disclaimers apply to all brave souls that may want to switch to ICS ahead of the crowd — even without working 3G or 4G data, and with non-working camera. Then, the procedure is rather convoluted and based on use of a special SafeStrap bootstrapping utility for the Bionic.

This is a very early custom build of CyanogenMod 9 (Android 4.0.3 out of Android Open Source Project) that didn’t get its own fork at CyanogenMod repositaries just yet. Adventurous users and fans of the original Motorola Droid may get a first glimpse of ICS goodness on their phones by using a download link here. Make sure to follow the discussion at XDA-Developers if you read this news late, as the new builds pop up constantly.

This build (or as author calls it “attempt”) was accomplished by XDA developer kfazz. As the video above shows, it’s quite nice and reasonably smooth for a more than 2 year old phone with just 256 MB of RAM. First test reports show that the build has colors that are fixed from previous kfazz builds, UI is a lot smoother, screenshot works, WiFi works. Interestingly enough, the available memory is about the same as what it was on Gingerbread — 90mb free, and that is without all of the memory booster tweaks, such as Supercharger, etc. Screen rotation is backwards, keyboard out triggers portrait, and the camera gives a “cannot connect error”. The’re’s more quirks and bugs to keep this highly experimental build a daily runner for Droid, but the work goes on for the growing excitement of Droid community.

There’s also a report that the last update of this ICS ROM works on Motorola Milestone A854 model (but not on A853 model). All in all, it’s a Christmas gift for Droid fans that came early.

Earlier this year, I took a look at the Motorola Xoom and while it was a reasonably solid tablet, it was certainly not without its faults. Well, Motorola is ready to introduce another generation of Mototablet and they’re doing it with the strangely named Droid Xyboard.

From this first look at the tablet, you can tell that the design is quite different. For starters, you get more of a wedged-in corner kind of style, not unlike the design cue that we see in the recently launched Droid Razr. The back has an industrial design that almost reminds me of Getac’s rugged convertible tablet PCs.

While the Droid Xyboard ships with Honeycomb, it will be eligible for Ice Cream Sandwich at some point in the future. We’re being told that two sizes will be available too: 8.2-inch and 10.1-inch, both of which have the same 1280×800 resolution display, dual core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB RAM, Verizon 4G LTE, 5MP rear cam, and 1.3MP front cam.

The 16GB version of the 8.2-inch and 10.1-inch Droid Xyboard will retail for $430 and $530, respectively, with a two-year Verizon contract. Both can be bumped to 32GB models, while only the bigger tab will get the 64GB option.

Droid fans rejoice, it seems that the Droid 4 is on its way. Motorola’s newest Droid phone model is now expected to launch on December 8. Interestingly enough, this is the same date that many are estimating for the Galaxy Nexus as well. It may not run Android ICS at its launch, but it is at least the first slider with 4G/LTE.

If you aren’t sure what to ask Santa Clause for this year, perhaps you might want to think about the new Droid 4. This new creation from Motorola will include a 4″ Super AMOLED Advanced display, a full 5-row illuminated keyboard, 1080p video recording, 8MP camera, and even HDMI out. Unfortunately, the downside is that the Droid 4 is likely to have a non-removable battery.

Droids have a reputation for quality, so odds are the Droid 4 will continue to live up to expectations. Of course the Droid RAZR is just barely out the door as well, so Droid fans have a tough choice on their hands.
