While HTC has plans to release their newly unveiled S4 powered One S (T-Mobile) and One X (AT&T version) within the next two months, Microsoft is reportedly busy testing a Windows Phone 8 smartphone, which is intended for Sprint’s network, with the dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm MSM8960 chipset. The new info comes to us courtesy of the folks over at The Verge who were apparently tipped off by “sources familiar with the company’s plans”.

According to The Verge, at least one Windows Phone 8 handset will arrive later this year and the company is hoping that their device will exhibit impressive performance with the chip onboard as the S4 has been proven to be better than Samsung’s Galaxy S II (Exynos) and Motorola’s Droid 4 (TI OMAP) via many tests.

Reportedly, Sprint is interested in a Windows Phone 8 handset equipped with the chip and won’t be launching any new Windows phones before the introduction of WP8. The carrier has also contacted Nokia for sharing their LTE specifications.

But it is not known whether Microsoft will be checking out the quad-core Tegra 3 processor on the global version of the HTC One X. Although Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 has done remarkably well on previous tests, the latest benchmarks of the HTC One series show that the Tegra 3 is on par with S4 in processing power, and it actually is better when it comes to graphics performance.

The idea of multi-core processor support for future Windows Phones can never be pushed aside after this leak. And Qualcomm, when asked about the possibility of Windows Phone S4 devices, gave out answers that suggest they know about Microsoft’s tests.

We will keep you updated on the matter, so stay tuned.

Just last Friday we covered news regarding a very possible Droid 4 launch on the 10th of this month. The good news is that we now have official word for Verizon that this is indeed the correct launch date.

The Droid 4 was first introduced at CES earlier this year as a very thin, dual-core beast that also features a slide out five-row QWERTY keyboard, and edge-lit keys that deliver fast, precise typing. Overall it looks to be a rather impressive phone all except for one flaw, it doesn’t run ICS (at least not right out the door), instead coming with 2.3.5 gingerbread.

For those looking to get their hands on the Droid 4, you will be able to purchase it on the 10th from either brick and mortar locations or online. The device will cost $199.99 with a new 2-year contract.

AT&T looks to be in a good position to attract quite a number of customers with their newly announced Android and Windows devices with LTE capabilities. But it’s not going to be easy for the carrier as Verizon has had a head start in deploying LTE in the US and has now announced new 4G LTE-powered smartphones, the Motorola Droid 4 and the Droid RAZR MAXX, at CES.

According to Motorola and Verizon, the Motorola Droid 4 is the thinnest 4G LTE QWERTY smartphone on the market. The handset measures in at 5 by 2.7 by 0.5 inches. It’s no Droid RAZR and definitely not the thinnest handset on the planet, but we have to keep in mind that the device comes with a 5-row keyboard which slides under a 4-inch qHD display.

The keyboard features sharp-looking, edge-lit keys, and the display is coming with “scratch- and scrape-resistant” glass.

The device also features a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, and an 8 MP camera which is capable of recording 1080p video.

The only disappointment is that the device will be running Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread, instead of Android ICS. Motorola has promised that the upgrade will arrive sometime in Q2 of this year. The late arrival of the latest OS is most probably because of Motorola’s relatively heavy UI layer and their Webtop mode and all. Moving all that to ICS will take time.

The Droid 4 will hit store shelves sometime in the coming months, but there have no announcements regarding the price tag.

As we told you earlier, the DROID RAZR MAXX is also headed to Verizon and one of the main features of the device is that its battery lasts 21 hours on a single charge. And the carrier also announced that their DROID RAZR, black and white models of which are on sale at present, will be available in color purple and its price will be dropped to $199.

Verizon Jetpacks, two global ready 4G LTE mobile hotspots, have also been announced. With each Jetpack, you will be able to connect up to 10 Wi-Fi enabled devices for sharing Verizon’s network. The Jetpacks come with an OLED screen and interactive keypad which will allow you to manage the connections. With the Jetpack, you will be able to get online in more than 205 countries. No word on pricing at the moment.

Motorola’s Droid 4 has been getting a lot of attention recently, especially for a device that hasn’t even officially been announced. It started with information surrounding leaked specs for the device and now has escalated with Techno Buffalo managing to get their hands on a Droid 4 demo unit.

While the device isn’t a working unit, it does give us a much better idea of how the phone will look and feel.

If rumor proves correct, the Droid 4 will feature a 4” display with a 960×540 resolution, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB internal storage, microSD expansion, an 8MP rear camera, an HD front facing camera, HDMI output, and a 1,785mAh battery.

Droid 4 cases and even a Droid 4 photo appeared on Best Buy for a Reward Zone promotion. If Verizon doesn’t get their 4G LTE issues sorted out before its launch, it could be a hairy launch for the RAZR look-a-like.

For now, this is all just speculation, though its starting to look more and more like solid fact. I wouldn’t be surprised if an official announcement and launch date comes around near 2012 CES in a few days.

Recent rumors had previously suggested that Droid 4 and Galaxy Nexus were launching this week on the Verizon network, now it seems that Verizon has pushed back this rumored launch point altogether. Of course this is assuming that the rumor for this week’s luanch was ever correct to begin with, although I will tell you that reports claim that many official Verizon stores actually believed the would start offering these phones this week as well.

So when can we expect to see the Droid 4 and Galaxy Nexus actually launch? For now, they have yet to pinpoint the actual dates involved. We do know that Verizon is planning on expanding its LTE network to cover 190 markets in the US for December 15th, and so this could possibly be the new target week for both of these highly anticipated Android smartphones.

For now, those craving the Droid 4 or Google’s flagship “Galaxy Nexus” will have to wait just a little while longer I’m afraid.

Droid fans rejoice, it seems that the Droid 4 is on its way. Motorola’s newest Droid phone model is now expected to launch on December 8. Interestingly enough, this is the same date that many are estimating for the Galaxy Nexus as well. It may not run Android ICS at its launch, but it is at least the first slider with 4G/LTE.

If you aren’t sure what to ask Santa Clause for this year, perhaps you might want to think about the new Droid 4. This new creation from Motorola will include a 4″ Super AMOLED Advanced display, a full 5-row illuminated keyboard, 1080p video recording, 8MP camera, and even HDMI out. Unfortunately, the downside is that the Droid 4 is likely to have a non-removable battery.

Droids have a reputation for quality, so odds are the Droid 4 will continue to live up to expectations. Of course the Droid RAZR is just barely out the door as well, so Droid fans have a tough choice on their hands.
