Ever had the urge to use a new Wii U controller for gaming and other activities on your PC? Developer and modder Chris Manning has bridged the gap and created software that makes it possible.

He has enabled the Nintendo’s Wii U big pad controller to communicate with your PC systems and even was kind enough to make the software available to you for download so you can mess around with this tweak as well. According to Manning, he isn’t done there, he is now working to release a new update that will allowing streaming to work and add touch screen support to the Wii U pad.

Chris adds, “Follow the readme.txt closely! This requires a bit of technical know-how to get working.” Below is a video of the software in action and a link to download your own copy.

Without touch and streaming capabilities, the use potential for this Wii U Controller ‘mod’ is limited at this stage, but there is plenty of future potential here. What do you think?

Facebook is getting bigger and better and it appears like they will be giving you more capabilities as the social site grows. The new feature that they are adding is file sharing, which will soon be available to all the groups and will allow members of a group to share files of up to 25MB with each other.

The file sharing feature, of course, has been available for school-specific groups since last month, but they are expanding it now as it is one of the most requested features in Groups.

After the update a group page will have a “Files” tab at the top and an “upload file” icon in the publisher. You will be allowed to share presentations, schedules, documents and other files, but you won’t be able to upload music and executable program files. According to Facebook, “users can report files the same way they can with other content across the site“, which is for keeping an eye on illegal file-sharing.

The files uploaded into a group can be public or available to members-only based on the group’s privacy setting. Although the new files feature does not allow you to do online editing, you will be able to download files, edit them and upload the new versions, and the original version of the files will remain available.

According to Facebook, the feature is now available to a “small percentage” of groups, but will be rolled out to the rest of them soon.

Up until now, the only real way you could access Android Market was through your smartphone, but that’s changing. Google has just revamped its Android Market website and it pretty much lets you do everything you’d do on your phone, only through your PC instead.

This isn’t exactly novel. You can shop through iTunes for your iPhone, for example, just as you can shop through the Ovi Store for your Nokia smartphone. It’s good to see that Google has finally caught up in this regard.

Now, when you go to the Android Market website, you can browse through the different apps in a “bigger, brighter interface,” sending the apps to your smartphone (or tablet) directly from the site. This is not unlike the Ovi system. You can also log into your account and view your download history.

Better late than never!

Are you not particularly pleased with the performance of the Symbian Browser built into Nokia smartphones? Not happy with BlackBerry Browser either? Opera has always been there to provide a viable mobile surfing alternative and we are now looking at the latest release, Opera Mini 5. As always, this new web browser is available as a free download.

So, if you’re already rocking one of the older versions of Opera Mini, why would you want to upgrade to this latest iteration? One of the most notable new features is the introduction of tabbed browsing. From the comfort of my laptop, I’ve become far too accustomed to having several tabs open at the same time and now I can have the same experience on my Nokia E71.

The tabbed browsing is fantastic for multitasking, assuming that your smartphone can handle that kind of added load. Other updates over the current 4.2 version of Opera include Speed Dial startup links (like the Chrome homepage), password management, and a “Turbo” pre-cached mode for slower connections.

Opera Mini will work on most Java-enabled phones, so that includes the vast majority of Nokia and BlackBerry devices in the audience, at the very least. If you’re running Windows Mobile or something similar, Opera Mini 5 should be good to go. To get it, point your mobile browser to m.opera.com/next.
