A Jailbreak Dream Team has come together to jailbreak the unjailbreakable A5 Chip iDevices iPad 2 & the iPhone 4S. Pod2g announced on his official blog that the juggernauts of iOS hacking has joined hands to create an untethered jailbreak for the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S on iOS 5. The hope is that all 4 of the iOS hackers will combine their will and strength come together as a team and fuzz the Apple box.

This comes only a few days after pod2g announced that he has made great step in A5 Jailbreak & if no more roadblocks rise up the jailbreak could be released in a week. Now that the Dream Team is working along side pod2g we may very see the untethered jailbreak for the iPad 2 & iPhone 4S soon!

“I made a step today for the A5. With some luck we could expect a release in a week.

We gave you the details this past weekend that there was an iOS 5 jailbreak in the works from Pod2g (Chronic Dev-team) and MuscleNerd from (iPhone Dev-team). Well, low and behold, today the group has released Redsn0w 0.9.9b9b, adding native support for iOS 5.0.1 but still unable to crack the iPhone 4s and iPad 2. Pod2g blogged how “The untether fails right now because I’m having processor cache issues.”

This jailbreak will allow most devices to manually load IPSWs. If you have an iPhone 3GS and old bootrooms you can create IPSW files without blobs. However, this jailbreak is still tethered.

There are also some reports of lost functionality with the jailbreak, like loss of the ability to download over-the-air operating system updates from Apple is an obvious, and some new problems with the Skype app for iOS. Mobile Support Forum has a thread going with more details and download links to the files.

4.3.2 came out fairly quickly after 4.3.1, this “hole” must have slipped passed Apple in the release update since the previous untether update allows for the 4.3.2 kernel to be cracked just the same. We’re still waiting on an iPad 2 jailbreak and this latest redsn0w does not include carrier unlocks.

The only thing left out is that the iPad 2 is not exploitable. The reason being, Dev-Team reports, is that the iPad 2 is “not susceptible to either limera1n or SHAtter bootrom exploits.” Meaning, the iPad 2 requires a bootrom or iBoot-level exploit to install, and this latest release doesn’t address that. Others who can’t use the 4.3.1 jailbreak are those who use ultrasn0w, Dev-Team further indicates that an ultrasn0w update will need to come soon. They say redsn0w is the way to go.

So what devices support the 4.3.1 untether jailbreak?

iPhone3GS

iPhone4 (GSM)

iPod touch 3G

iPod touch 4G

iPad1

AppleTV 2G (PwnageTool only for now)

The reality of it all, ion1c tweeted “Android = Total freedom to install what you want and never get security updates” shortly afterwards.

In a never ending game of cat and mouse, a new iOS 4.1 exploit has surfaced, although this version has come from a different crew than we are typically accustomed to and may have some unwanted side effects. Geohot came literally out of nowhere and released limera1n, a bootrom-level jailbreak for the iPhone3GS, iPhone 4, iPod touch 3G/4G, iPad, and technically the AppleTV 2G.

Rival developers at the iPhone Dev Team appear to be supportive, but have also expressed some caution: “DO NOT USE LIMERA1N IF YOU USE THE ULTRASN0W CARRIER UNLOCK — wait for PwnageTool to incorporate the limera1n exploit. This is so that you can avoid updating your baseband and losing the unlock (possibly forever)” said the dev-team blog.

Some have tried the limera1n jailbreak (windows only) with success, others have had issues like lost icons and the inability to boot. The dev-team does give props to Geohot, “he obviously does have considerable skill pulling this together in just over a day (although he’s had the underlying exploit for months).”

We knew not to expect a jailbreak from the iPhone dev team anytime soon, but @pod2g and @p0sixninja together may have a solution for jailbreakers once again. A blog post came hours after the iOS 4.1 official announcement, pod2g announced “Pwned once again? :)” Although nothing has been released by the iPhone dev team, the exploit, according to @musclenerd will also work for iPhone 4, iPod touch (4G too) and iPad devices. This new method of cracking iOS could pose a bigger problem for Apple than previous jailbreaking methods; in order to patch it, Apple would need “a whole new processor rev.” Typically, Apple will simply re-flash or patch the bootrom of a new build before sending it off to thwart jailbreakers.

The Firmware Umbrella have updated their site with a 4.0.x to 4.1 update, apparently without touching the baseband. That’s fantastic, its not your typical click and unlock solution, so you will need a bit of time to RTFM, TinyUmbrella, a TSS server, and some balls. You can’t brick your iPhone testing exploits, but you can sure mess things up. So as always, proceed at your own risk and let us know how things worked out for you.

Did you line up for hours on end to get your hands on a shiny new Apple iPhone 4? Are you anxious to jailbreak it so that you can access all the cool Cydia apps (and other things) that aren’t available to non-jailbroken iPhones? Well, you’ll want to avoid updating to iOS 4.0.2 then.

That’s because the Dev-Team have made a rather important announcement. They’re not going to make a jailbreak for iOS 4.0.2. It’s not that they’re working on it and having trouble, per se; it’s that they’re not going to bother making one at all.

If you managed to get an iPhone 4 with iOS 4.0.1 and earlier, you can still use the remarkably simple and straightforward solution at Jailbreakme.com to break through the shackles. That still works. However, if you’ve upgraded to iOS 4.0.2 (or you bought a device that came preloaded with it), you’re pretty much out of luck.

For the more patient people in the audience, you’re probably best sticking with iOS 4.0.1 for now and waiting for the next iOS 4.1 update. At that time, the Dev-Team will work on a new jailbreak for the newly updated OS.
