As represented in the image above, Corning had something new and tough up their sleeve for this year’s CES. More specifically, Corning Incorporated is an American based company that works primarily on glass ceramics. Most popularly, the company has become known for their production of Gorilla Glass.

Since Gorilla Glass’s initial release on the iPhone in 2007, the product has been used in over 1 billion devices. In 2012, Corning released the second version of their product which was 20% thinner while withstanding the same conditions.

This year, Gorilla Glass 3 is going to be the latest and strongest by Corning. Damage is now 40% less visible and the glass is 40% better in terms of structural stability.

In short, skipping the tech terms, Gorilla Glass 3 will ensure that your screen will survive anything that you do to it (within reason). Although it is possible to damage Gorilla Glass, if you would like to try, please include us when you share that video.

Is Corning Gorilla Glass a must have in your next devices? Would you trust yourself without a case knowing that your device is protected with Gorilla Glass? Let us know in the comments below.

When it comes to the toughest glass for consumer electronics, Corning Gorilla Glass has quickly risen to become the defacto leader in that sphere. But sometimes, even gorillas aren’t tough enough. Which is why Samsung wants to be extra special.

Samsung and Corning are buddying up on a joint venture to develop what is called Lotus Glass technology. Yeah, that gentle flower may not sound quite as tough as King Kong, but it should be. And it comes with several other improvements too, including better picture quality, faster response times, and higher resolutions.

Considering just how great AMOLED (and all of its HD Plus Super Elite Ultra Awesome variants) is on Samsung smartphones, things can only get better with some Lotus Glass action entering the picture. Could we be seeing a Lotus-AMOLED combo with the Galaxy S III?

Update: We have received the following message of clarification from Corning: “Corning Gorilla Glass is a cover glass for the exterior of display devices, while Corning Lotus Glass is a glass substrate that can enable cutting-edge technologies including organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays and next generation liquid crystal displays (LCD) and panels. Therefore, many electronic devices could feature both Corning Gorilla Glass and Corning Lotus Glass. While they are formed with the same manufacturing process, the chemical compositions of the glass are also different.”

There are already many LTE devices on Verizon’s network, and now they have added one more. The LG Spectrum is now available on sale from the carrier. The smartphone, which is aimed at the mid-range market, is coming with high-end specs including a beautiful HD screen.

The Spectrum features a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S3 processor, an 8 Megapixel rear camera capable of recording 1080p video, a front facing 720p camera for video calls, 16GB of storage, and 1GB of RAM, and an 1830mAh battery is included in the package.

But it’s coming with Android 2.3 and no hints regarding an upgrade to Android 4.0. It features Bluetooth 3.0, but Bluetooth headset users would probably prefer BT 4.0 as it consumes much less power in standby mode.

The device’s main attraction is its large screen protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. Although it’s not as big as the one on the Galaxy Note, the 4.5 inch 720p IPS display might just be enough to attract you. And of course, the LTE device will take advantage of Verizon’s high speed network.

We are expecting to get the device soon for a hands-on experience so that we can judge it fully. But we encourage you to pay a visit to your nearby Verizon store to take a peek at that screen for yourself. And do let us know how you felt.

The device is coming with a price tag of $199.99 with a 2 year contract.
