While $150 or less isn't going to get you an “iPad killer”, the latest Coby 7-inch MID7065 isn't half bad, featuring a dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM.

The post Coby MID7065 is a Reasonably Capable Android Dual-Core Tablet for Just $139 appeared first on Mobile Magazine.

When tablets first started to show up in the mainstream, they were pretty expensive to say the least. During the “early days” of Android tablets you were lucky to find anything of reasonable speed and quality under $350.

Fast-forwarding to today? While $150 or less isn’t going to get you an “iPad killer”, there are now tablets in that range that can run most of the basic entertainment, productivity and gaming apps. Most of these can also do things like watch Netflix, Hulu and handle your browsing needs.

One of these low-cost tablets is the latest 7-inch Coby MID7065, which ships with Google Play and all of the Google software preloaded. Generally a tablet that actually includes full access to the 750,000+ apps found on Google Play tends to be a bit pricer– but J&R and Adorama are both offering the MID7065 for an impressively low $139.

What kind of specs does this Coby tablet feature? A 1.2GHz Amlogic AM8726-MX dual core processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of Storage, microSD, front VGA cam, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, mini-HDMI and a 1024 x 600 pixel display. As for the OS, it is Android 4.0 ICS.

The dual-core Amlogic processor isn’t going to blow you away, but overall these are pretty good specs. The only downside seems to be the display, which reportedly has rather poor viewing angles (colors wash out when you move the tablet), but for $139, it’s hard to complain.

Although Coby tablets probably aren’t the brand of choice for those who plan on regularly using their tablets, but they could be perfect if you want a secondary tablet or aren’t too big into the idea of using your tablet daily but still want one around for those occasional uses.

If you're willing to go with a lower-tier brand, and are looking for tablets with Android Ice Cream Sandwich for less than $100, the Coby Kryos, 7.0-inch WVGA with a 1GHz processor and 512MB of RAM might be your best bet.

If you’re willing to go with a lower-tier brand, and are looking for tablets with Android Ice Cream Sandwich for less than $100, the Coby Kryos, 7.0-inch WVGA with a 1GHz processor and 512MB of RAM might be your best bet.

It should be noted that this is a resistive touchscreen, though, which means that your experience with it might not be quite the same finger-friendly experience as with a capacitive screen. That said, it also means that it’ll be better for those cold winter months when you’re wearing gloves. It’s also better for handwriting recognition and withstanding your 5 year old banging it around.

Other specs include the GetJar Marketplace (sorry, no google play), 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, and a number of preloaded apps to get you started with video watching, email, web browsing, music listening and e-book reading. There is 4GB of on-board storage, which can then be expanded with a microSD or microSDHC card, we’re not sure if .

Find the Coby Kryos on Amazon for $80, which is $30 (27%) off the regular price of $109.99.

I'm not really sure what to make of this thing, but I guess you could say that it is the next natural progression for the MP3 player. Sure, many people use their smartphones as music players, but many others like having a separate unit for that purpose.

But this doesn't really have any buttons. What you see here is the newly revealed Coby Micro MP3 Player and it's a polished piece of plastic. The minimalist design is reminiscent of the Creative Zen Stone, but it goes so much further.

The post Coby Micro MP3 player looks like detached fingernail appeared first on Mobile Magazine.

I’m not really sure what to make of this thing, but I guess you could say that it is the next natural progression for the MP3 player. Sure, many people use their smartphones as music players, but many others like having a separate unit for that purpose.

But this doesn’t really have any buttons. What you see here is the newly revealed Coby Micro MP3 Player and it’s a polished piece of plastic. The minimalist design is reminiscent of the Creative Zen Stone, but it goes so much further.

How the heck do you control this player? It’s possible that it works like the iPod shuffle and it just bumbles its way through your playlist as it pleases. On the other hand, it could take another page out of the shuffle playbook by placing the controls in the headphone cord. Your guess is as good as mine.

For the raw specs, you can expect to get 2GB of internal memory, USB connectivity, and a mere five-hour battery. Coby isn’t forthcoming with launch price or a release date, so we’ll just have to sit and wait. Painting our nails.
