Absinthe 2.0.4 Arrives Fixing Additional Errors Along The Way

It’s only been about a week or so since Absinthe 2.0 first came out allowing iOS 5.1.1 users to jailbreak their devices without the need for tethering. So early into its initial release and we are now already up to version 2.0.4, which might leave you wondering why so many revisions so short after it’s release? Honestly, it is pretty much expected when it comes to something as difficult to do as create an untethered jailbreak solution. The Chronic Dev Team has done a wonderful job with Absinthe and you really can’t fault them if everything wasn’t working immediately, again they do this all for free just to give us a way to get the most out of our iPhones.

The newest update fixes many of the issues that put iPhone 4S jailbreakers in lockdown, such as the error -5 issue. With Absinthe 2.0.4 you can pretty much use this jailbreak solution with any iDevice that makes use of 5.1.1.

Whether you’ve already used a version of Absinthe 2.0 or not, it is recommended you back up your device and either reset your iDevice or use the iTunes Restore option before going ahead with a jailbreak. Absinthe 2.0 requires minimal steps and instructions to get it running, as we already mentioned in a previous post. As Absinthe 2.0 continues to evolve, you can expect other revisions to hit in the weeks to come.

Pod2g Focuses Energies On A5 iDevice Jailbreak For iOS 5

So close. So very close. Last week, we saw a brief update on the status of an iOS 5 untethered jailbreak. Then, we saw a video, but when is it actually going to get released to the masses? While we still don’t have a timeline, we have to realize that pod2g is just one man and he only has so many hours in the day. So, he’s decided to focus his efforts on developing an Apple A5 jailbreak for the iPhone 4s and iPad 2.

This sentiment was expressed on his blog, where he says: “I need to focus on A5 and hope I can find a path quick, and I have the feeling that chronic-dev could help me.” It’s not that he wants the Chronic Dev Team to help him develop the jailbreak for Apple A5 iDevices; it’s that he wants them to take a load off his shoulders by working on the other project.

Pod2g has sent all the details to the Chronic Dev Team “so that they can finish, test, integrate and release the A4 jb ASAP.” That helps to free up his time and mental space to “put all my energy from now on on the A5.” If you have an iPhone 4S or iPad 2, that’s good news for you, or not, because you are still eagerly awaiting the fix. He might even have a treat for you before the end of the year. He’s hoping.

Chronic Dev Team: Still working on jailbreak for iPad 2

Remember in May when the Chronic Dev guys promised an iPad 2 jailbreak solution “in a few weeks.” Well, we might have to add a few more weeks to that promise, because it’s not ready yet.

The latest update comes by way of @p0sixninja on Twitter, telling us that the Chronic Dev Team is “still diligently working on both the iPad2 jailbreak & lots of other exciting projects.” He also thanks you for your patience, but considering that you don’t pay anything for these jailbreaks, you’re still getting your money’s worth, right?

Really, the news here is no news. The jailbreak for the iPad 2 isn’t ready yet, but Chronic Dev Team is working on it and they want to make sure it’s all good before going public. More testing awaits.
