The Samsung Galaxy Note was one among the popular devices to be shown off at CES 2012. The device turned out to be quite a head turner with its 5.3 inch HD Super AMOLED display and dual-core CPU, and is also 4G LTE enabled. But many were disappointed as the device was announced only for AT&T. But now, according to a new rumor, the device appears to be headed to other carriers as well.

The Galaxy Note will hit both Verizon and Sprint during the first half of 2012, and will possibly be called the Samsung Galaxy Journal. That’s according to Industry Analyst Paul Mueller who spoke with the Examiner.

It will definitely be great if the device arrives on two more carriers, but so far we haven’t got any confirmation whether it will actually happen. But that does not mean it will not happen. We hope its coming as we found it to be an awesome device from our hands-on experience.

Back in July last year, the same Paul Mueller indicated that Verizon would be the first carrier in the US to launch the Samsung Galaxy S II (as the Samsung Function). But that rumor turned out to be very wrong. So we better take the current rumor with a pinch of salt.

Just to let you know, a CDMA version of the Galaxy Note does not exist anywhere on the planet. But it is possible to make one and it will be a great experience to use that on Verizon’s extremely fast network.

We will keep you updated on the matter. So stay tuned.

Isn’t it so much better when everything just kind of fits together? Like a jigsaw puzzle? Where your otherwise scattered life seems to have some sense of order to it? Maybe that’s the motivation behind the announcement that all Sprint phones moving forward will be integrated with a Google Voice experience.

What exactly does this mean? It means that you can set your Sprint mobile phone number as your Google Voice number, taking advantage of all the usual features of Google Voice without having to port your number over. This partnership might help Google Voice get a leg up on alternatives like Skype too, don’t you think?

“With this integration, we have made Google Voice simple to use with a Sprint phone,” said Dave Girouard, president at Google. “Sprint subscribers now have access to all the benefits of Google Voice behind their existing mobile number without the need for porting or, if they already have a Google Voice number, they can display that number from their Sprint phone without the need for a separate application.”

One of the more interesting features? If you get a call from friends or family members, you can get all your Google Voice devices to ring (home, mobile, office, etc.). If you get a call from your boss, then only your office phone will ring. That’s not new to Google Voice, but it is new to see it “integrated” into an official mobile service. It helps that Sprint is offering it for free if you sign up for an appropriate plan too.

Sprint and Google to Launch Integrated Google Voice Experience on All Sprint Phones, Including Upcoming Nexus S 4G

Sprint is first carrier to allow customers to use their existing mobile number as their Google Voice number without porting

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (BUSINESS WIRE), March 21, 2011 – Sprint (NYSE: S) and Google announced today a new integrated Google Voice™ experience that will allow Sprint customers to set their existing Sprint wireless phone number as their Google Voice number. Sprint customers will be able to take advantage of all the features and benefits of Google Voice without the hassle and fees associated with porting their number. Sprint is the first and only carrier to offer this capability, which will be available soon on all Sprint CDMA phones.

In addition, Nexus S 4G1, announced today by Sprint, Google and Samsung, will allow Sprint customers to enable the integrated Google Voice experience and will come preloaded with the Google Voice Android app.

“As part of our partnership with Google, our customers will appreciate having the easiest set-up experience of any wireless carrier for Google Voice across all of our CDMA phones, using their existing Sprint phone number,” said Kevin McGinnis, vice president-Product and Technology Development, Sprint. “It’s now easier than ever to truly live a mobile lifestyle with the ability to manage multiple devices through intelligent call routing and online controls using just one phone number – your existing Sprint number.”

Manage multiple devices with Google Voice

Google Voice makes it easy for people to manage and access most of their voice-based communication. It lets users manage up to six different devices through one phone number with intelligent call routing and advanced features like call screening, blocking and recording using the phone’s dial pad. Sprint subscribers will be able to use their Sprint number across their office, home and wireless phones, and personalize settings so calls from friends ring their wireless device and home phone, while calls from the boss only ring at the office. Google Voice users can receive transcribed voicemails and read or listen to them online. They can also read, send and search text messages and call logs online at www.google.com/voice.

Sprint is the only carrier that allows the user to assign their existing mobile phone number as their Google Voice number without having to port their number, avoiding porting charges, potential service disruptions and the hassle of calling their carrier to terminate and port their number to Google Voice and then re-subscribe with another number. Sprint’s integration with Google simplifies and shortens the process of moving a phone number to Google Voice to mere minutes.

Integrated Google Voice Experience from Sprint

One number for all your devices Work, home, mobile; no need to change numbers after a move or new job
Route phone calls and text messages Send work calls to the office, personal to home or mobile
Conditional call presentation Hear caller info before answering or send straight to voicemail
In-call options Record calls, switch phones during a call, conference calling
Manage it all online Manage call history, texts and voicemail; listen to voicemail and read transcribed messages; view threaded text messaging history and continue the conversation online
Keep your existing wireless phone number without porting Only with Sprint

Customers can sign up to be notified when the integrated Google Voice experience for Sprint phones is available at www.google.com/voice/sprint.

With a few simple steps, any Sprint CDMA phone will be able to use Google Voice to simplify the customer’s wireless experience:

 1.
Customers can simply go to www.google.com/voice/sprint and sign-up for the integrated service from Sprint.
2. Google will then confirm the customer would like to use their existing Sprint number as their Google Voice number.
3. Customers do not need to notify Sprint that they plan to use Google Voice. A notification is automatically sent to Sprint to provision the necessary services on the network required for the Google Voice integrated experience.
4. Within minutes, all of the customer’s phone calls, text messages and voicemail run through Google Voice, and all inbound and outbound calls show up with the customer’s existing Sprint number with all of the benefits of Google Voice.

For more information on Sprint’s Google Voice integration, watch the video and visit www.sprint.com/googlevoice.2

Use of Google Voice is available at no additional charge with Sprint plans including Sprint’s Everything Data plans. Sprint’s Everything Data plans with Any Mobile, AnytimeSM include unlimited Web, texting and calling to and from any mobile in America while on the Sprint network, starting at just $69.99 per month plus required $10 Premium Data add-on charge for smartphones – a savings of $39.99 per month versus Verizon’s comparable plan with unlimited talk, text and Web (excluding Verizon’s Southern California plan; pricing excludes surcharges and taxes).

Sprint Everything Data plans qualify customers for automatic enrollment in the Sprint PremierSM loyalty program.3 Existing Sprint customers can switch to an Everything Data plan without extending their service agreement. New lines of service require a two-year service agreement.

Prior to this day it was only available in limited supply (aren’t most Apple products seemingly in “short supply” when they first come out?) to VZW customers. A 16GB Verizon iPhone 4 will cost you $200, and $300 for a 32GB. You can grab one at Verizon Wireless stores, Apple or Best Buy anytime you please. If you’re very eager to get off AT&T and on to Verizon, don’t forget that CDMA will not allow data and voice multitasking.

Those of you looking to grab the Verizon iPhone 4 may be surprised to hear that the phone doesn’t support network multitasking. You have to choose between voice or data, not both simultaneously as is possible with the AT&T iPhone 4. What this means is that when you answer a voice call all of your apps will be pushed offline, you can’t check online schedules, you won’t even receive emails or be able to browse the web while talking. If you’re on Verizon now with another smartphone you’re probably used to this. It’s for all those interested in switching over from AT&T. Contrary to what some people will tell you, this isn’t Apple’s fault. What’s more, the Verizon iPhone isn’t the only phone with this “problem,” it’s any phone on CDMA.

“It’s a feature of CDMA,” says Apple’s Natalie Harrison. “You can’t do voice and data simultaneously. Every CDMA phone is like that.”

That’s right. So when we received a press release from Toktumi Inc. saying their Line2 service “fixes the Verizon iPhone’s inability to multitask” and that “the upcoming Verizon iPhone will only support a voice OR data connection, not BOTH simultaneously over Verizon’s CDMA network,” I was shocked.

Line2 basically combines VoIP and cellular calling under a single phone number, it won first place in the Mobile Apps Showdown at this year’s CES and might be the best app out there to handle this. Giving you voice capabilities over data while still being able to use data and saving you heaps of money in calling fees. Check the PR below for full details.

Line2 Fixes Verizon iPhone 4 Multitasking Issue and Saves Customers Money

Save Up To $1,000/year On Your Verizon Bill

San Francisco, CA — Line2, the only app for Apple and Android devices with tri-mode calling technology, fixes the Verizon iPhone’s inability to multitask. With the upcoming release of the Verizon iPhone just days away there are several issues that potential Verizon iPhone users should be aware of. The upcoming Verizon iPhone will only support a voice OR data connection, not BOTH simultaneously over Verizon’s CDMA network. This will come as an unwelcome surprise to AT&T iPhone users who are used to being able to run their apps and connect to the internet while on a call over AT&T’s GSM network. Verizon iPhone users will have to choose one or the other type of connection. This means that while on a Verizon iPhone call, users will not be able to browse websites, receive new email messages, or access live information from internet-connected apps like Google Maps, Flixster, or Opentable.

Fortunately Line2 has the perfect solution to the Verizon multi-tasking issue. With Line2’s tri-mode calling capabilities you can call and text over Wi-Fi or cellular 3Gdata networks without interfering with any other app or browser connection. The only time a Line2 user won’t be able to use multiple apps is when they don’t have a Wi-Fi or 3G data connection and instead are using the underlying cellular voice line to complete the call, a feature offered by Line2 when needed. With Verizon’s strong 3G data network, however, most customers will be able to place Line2 calls via VoIP over 3G, saving cell plan minutes and allowing true multitasking.

Line2 recommends that Verizon iPhone users port their main number to Line2 at no charge and sign up for the minimum Verizon calling plan – 450 Talk for $69.98 with unlimited data. Using Line2 as your primary number will allow you to enjoy the iPhone’s built-in multi-tasking capabilities and will also save you between $600-1000 a year compared to subscribing to Verizon’s unlimited plan.

Although we are unsure of the exact official numbers of the pre-ordered handsets, CEO Dan Mean had this to say “in just out first two hours, we had already sold more phones than any first day launch in our history.”

Despite a few complaints from some would-be customers about the stability of Verizon’s website, Mead claimed that “unprecedented customer orders” were placed online through them. I guess there were just a few slow customers who were not able to get up early enough to snag a guaranteed pre-order. The sales began on Thursday morning at 3:00AM for customers already loyal to Verizon, and just 2 hours later at 5:00AM numbers had already exceed any of Verizon’s previous first-day records.

Pre-orders are now, for obvious logistical reasons, closed, and the next round is not to be expected until February 9, a day before the general market launch of the iPhone 4 on the Verizon network. On February 10 everyone else will be able to get their hands on Verizon’s take on the Apple smartphone, with the company opening its over 2000 Verizon Wireless Communications stores at 7 am, as well the iPhone will also be available at Apple store locations, Best Buy, select Wal-mart locations and online through www.verizonwireless.com and www.apple.com.

On the surface, you’d assume that the newly announced CDMA Apple iPhone 4 would be virtually identical to its GSM cousin. You’d assume that the only change really was with the cellular radio found within, and you would otherwise be getting the exact same hardware… but is that really true?

Well, for the most part the answer is yes. With Verizon’s iPhone 4 you still get the same retina display and the same “rounded rectangle” form factor that the AT&T version of the iPhone 4 is rocking. There are some critical differences, however, like the lack of a death grip occurring, for starters. This is thanks in part to an altered top antenna bar, as well as the increased robustness of the Verizon network. As you can see in the image, the external antenna bands are broken up in different places.

Also, unlike the AT&T version, the Verizon version will come pre-loaded with a 3G Mobile Hotspot application. This will work like a standard mobile hotspot, translating your 3G (no LTE yet) wireless connection into a Wi-Fi hotspot for sharing with laptops, iPads, and whatever else. You can connect up to five devices to this hotspot.

And that’s about it. If you’re already familiar with the iPhone 4 via AT&T, you’ll feel right at home with Verizon’s take. In fact, you could be pleasantly surprised by the lack of dropped calls and the inclusion of a native hotspot app.

Today marks a day in Apple’s history. The Big Red carrier, Verizon Wireless, has after talks dating back to 2008, landed the worlds most popular smartphone on their network, the iPhone 4. A version that is described as being identical to AT&T’s, besides the CDMA sans-4G connection, will go up for sale on February 10th starting at $200.

We had hopes that an LTE (4G) iPhone version would be released so we could take advantage of that new lightning fast network, but those dreams were put to rest this morning at the press conference. That doesn’t rule out an iPhone 4G on Verizon in June, but that’s still months away. The official handset is simply CDMA, leaving much of the desired LTE features — like simultaneously keeping a data and voice connection — wont be available.

Some design differences noted on the Verizion iPhone 4 is that it has four notches punched out of the external antenna array, while the AT&T iPhone just has three; Tim Cook confirmed that it is needed to make the CDMA network connection work, which who knows, could really mean some type of unspoken antenna-gate fix from the days of yesteryear. But that’s all conspiracy right now. Because of this the buttons have slightly moved, which may or may not require a new case design. It’s not certain at this point.

And wow. A 3G mobile Hotspot can be made with the CDMA iPhone 4. What has been done on Droids forever has now come to the iPhone 4 by way of a customized version of iOS 4.2.5 for CDMA that will allow you to share a WiFi network to five devices; laptops, tablets, iPods and whatever else grabs an internet connection. Who knew our WiFi iPads would get such freedom.

Now don’t go and get too excited about this news, ok, you can. But anyone trapped on AT&T who has been kicking and screaming for it will have to pay nearly a fortune to switch. But those contractless, up and coming renewable, smartphone shoppers who never got trapped in a term, we’ll you’re the one in for a treat. February 10th is the day you can get hooked up with the 16GB model for $199.99 and 32GB for $299.99. If you are a Verizon Wireless customer now, a special stockpile has been set aside for you to snap one up on February 3rd.

Are you going to make the switch?

Well, it’s time to add some more fodder to the trough, because an analyst has indicated that Big Red is “on track” to start selling the iPhone next March, a couple months past a CES unveiling predicted by WSJ.

This comes by way of Brian Marshall from Gleacher & Co. He’s been keeping a close eye on Apple and he predicted a March release about five months ago. From what I can gather, the hiccup (not including business negotiations between the two parties) is that Apple doesn’t want to bother making a specialized SKU for just one carrier. And that’s why next year might work.

Marshall indicates that the Verizon-bound iPhone “won’t just be for Verizon. There are international carriers that use CDMA, like KDDI in Japan, so I expect that Apple will make a big global push.” There aren’t too many places that still do CDMA as a primary technology, but it might be enough to grab Apple’s interest.

When Verizon gets a hold of the iPhone, it will mean more sales for Apple. “Apple will sell an additional 11.5 million units with Verizon,” said Marshall. “[Sales at] AT&T would go down only a couple million, but Verizon would sell at least 11.5 million in 2011.” he added. 17.2 million iPhones were sold worldwide in the first half of 2010 alone.

Realistically, a dual-mode iPhone might be an easier and more lucrative option for Apple overall. Sell the iPhone 5 to both AT&T and Verizon, for example, and keep the manufacturing process streamlined. Either way, Marshall says the prospects are “pretty tremendous.”

The push seems to be getting closer, because two major wireless providers in India are reportedly “in talks” with Apple about the possibility.

This could very well represent the tipping point for the folks in Cupertino, because India is one massive market and they could really tap into some huge profits by offering a CDMA iPhone for Indian subscribers. Both Reliance Communications and Tata Teleservices use CDMA for their networks, and they want the iPhone. If this is indeed the case and Apple goes ahead with a new relationship with these two carriers, it would bode very well with the oft-rumored Verizon iPhone. Yes, I realize that Verizon has nothing to do with Tata, but just having a CDMA iPhone produced would make the transition a heck of a lot easier.

Then again, I’m hearing rumors of a dual-mode CDMA/GSM iPhone as the next-generation offering. If that’s the case, the manufacturing process could be even easier for Apple. Make one SKU (or multiple, I suppose, given the different memory capacities) and let the world battle it out.

Research in Motion is really starting to dabble into other “unconventional” form factors for the BlackBerry line. The Storm was the first touchscreen. The Torch the first slider. And the Style could be the first QWERTY flip phone.

You may have already seen the BlackBerry 9670, mostly as rumor and hearsay, but it seems that the model number is no longer enough. That’s why we hear about Pearls, Curves, Bolds, and so on. We fully expected a “name” to go with the BlackBerry 9670, but Style? Well, that’s the word that’s currently making its way around the Internet today. This isn’t the first time that RIM has had a flip phone — you might remember the Pearl Flip — but the BlackBerry Style will be the first flip with full QWERTY. Maybe Curve Flip may have been more appropriate.

In any case, the BlackBerry 9670 Style will be a CDMA device and it appears to be running BB OS 6 right out of the box.
