Are you looking to move on up into the wonderful world of DSLRs? Canon is easily one of the most respected names in photography and now you can get a killer deal on the Rebel T2i 2 lens kit that comes with the standard zoom lens and a telephoto lens for $150 off the regular price.

This Canon EOS Rebel T2i kit includes the DSLR body, of course, as well as a EF-S 18-55mm F/3.5-5.6 IS standard zoom lens, plus the longer EF-S 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS telephoto zoom lens. Both of these are IS lenses, so the image stabilization should help with your shaky hands, especially at the telephoto end. Put these two together and you’ve got a great starting point for your digital photography exploits.

As far as the camera itself, the Rebel T2i is the new flagship of the EOS Rebel line. It features an 18.0MP CMOS APS-C sensor, DIGIC 4 image processor, ISO 100-6400 (expandable to 12800), enhanced 63-zone dual-layer metering system, full 1920×1080 HD video recording, 3.7fps burst mode, a wide 3.0-inch Clear-View LCD monitor, and a dedicated Live View/Movie shooting button. It’ll take the usual SD and SDHC cards, but it’ll happily accept the larger SDXC standard too. There’s even a menu status indicator for Eye-Fi.

The whole shi-bang can be yours for $849.00 from Amazon.com, which is $150 off the regular list price for this 2 lens kit. That also qualifies for 2% back in Rewards, as well as free super saver shipping.

We all know Canon for its impressive line-up of imaging products such as cameras and printers, and less for its X Mark I series of business products. Now it seems the company has added two wireless accessories to complement your desktop or laptop computer, the X Mark I Mouse Lite and the X Mark I Keypad.

The X Mark I Mouse Lite is actually a three-in-one product, combining a laser mouse, a keypad and a 10-digit calculator, being a space and time saver, especially for the messy people who never seem to keep their workplace in order or keep losing calculators. The three-in-one device comes in black or white, it is compatible with Windows PC and Mac laptops and features Bluetooth connectivity. If you ask me, this is quite an inventive little gadget that could target, say, accountants?

The Canon X Mark I Keypad combines a keypad and a 10-digit Semi-Desktop Calculator, also available in black and white and powered by AAA batteries. Both devices will sell for $59.99 each, the Lite one coming in August and the Keypad in September.

Three-in-one sounds pretty good for the moment, but I’m sure Canon can do more than this. For now, its X Mark I line (I still think the marketing department could’ve come up with a better name) can be a useful addition to any office or business professional, and it doesn’t look that bad either.

Flickr is a great way for sharing pictures with your friends and the online community at large. There are plenty of professionals who post up edited pictures from their DSLRs, but casual shooters can share their snapshots too. However, the iPhone 4 is quickly becoming the most popular “camera” on the photo sharing site, even though it’s not really a camera in the traditional sense.

Right now, the Apple iPhone 4 is holding on to the second spot in terms of number of uploads to Flickr, straggling just behind the Nikon D40. These are two entirely different beasts, as the D40 is already three years old… that, and it’s a hefty SLR compared to a slim smartphone.

What this also means is that the iPhone 4 has effectively beat out all the compact point-and-shoots on the site, the top five of which are all Canon PowerShot models. Does this mean that the iPhone 4 is more popular than any of these models? Does it mean that it’s a better camera? No, not at all.

What it means is that the iPhone 4 makes it so easy to share photos, because you just snap and upload immediately from within the phone itself. The singular model philosophy of Apple aids this, as I’m sure Android folks are snapping and sharing shots too, but over multiple models and manufacturers. The same can be said about the multiple Canon PowerShots in the list.

The Okii Systems USB Follow Focus remote control allows Canon EOS photographers and videographers to make the smoothest photos and videos possible, eliminating shakes from changing settings directly on the camera.

The Follow Focus’ flagship feature is the focus puller, which uses a dial on the control pad and the autofocus motor built into Canon lenses to adjust focus in any live-view mode – including while recording video. What’s more, the device allows for saving and jumping between up to four points of focus without the response and feel of mechanical focus pullers.

The nine other buttons around the knob control the shutter, start/stop recording, autofocus, shutter speed, apature, ISO and various other camera adjustments.

At 7.6 cm in diameter and 142 g with the two AAA batteries, the highly portable controller plugs into the camera’s USB plug, leaving the HDMI out available for simultaneous use with an external monitor. It gets up to 30 hours on a pair of batteries, and can be used with a USB cord up to 10 metres in length.

Okii Systems is accepting preorders for the $400 Follow Focus, with the first shipments set to fly at the end of February.

Canon is giving us a taste of the future with their latest creations shown at the Canon Expo 2010 in New York. They’ve created a monster 50 Megapixel shooter that can capture colors that the human eye cannot see. I’m guessing we just have to take their word for it. The CMOS sensor has six color filters mounted over top of it, it’s a single shot shooter with not much really to look at.

Canon's 4K multipurpose camera made of bio-plastic Photo: Gizmodo

Next on the concept block is a 4K camcorder that shoots 60 frames per second with a single 8 megapixel 2/3-inch CMOS sensor. It weighs 5.5 pounds and has the look of a photo laser gun. The fixed 24-480mm lens is akin to a 20x optical zoom with aperture settings from f1.8 to f3.8, powered by a “new fully electronically-controlled lens drive system.” The plastic design is bio-based, replacing that of petro-chemical, making it a semi-green multipurpose camera.

Don’t get your hopes up to high, Canon probably won’t be making this anytime soon either.

The Canon Imageformula P-150 is the latest mobile scanner from Canon. It sells for under $300 online, and can scan at duplex up to 20 sheets per sitting. A perfect portable scanning companion for your mobile office. Definitely compact in size, light-weight and measuring only 11 x 3.7 x 1.6-inches, the P-150 is thin enough to slip in your laptop bag or rucksack. The shiny piano black finish gives off a “high-end” expensive look, but marks up and requires the white glove treatment. The expandable paper tray alignment hopper folds out like a Transformer and can be adjusted to the exact size you need it to be. Document feeding alignment was excellent, it stayed on course all throughout the process.

Power and connectivity are supplied by dual usb-ports. It can run off a single port – just slower – two ports are ideal. An AC adapter can also remove your dependence on the dual port situation, but the adapter costs extra. The P-150 will scan documents in width from as little as 2-inches (business cards) to 8.5-inches, and 2.7-inches up to 14-inches in length. This means legal paper size is supported.

Maximum scanning resolutions are 24-bit color at 600dpi. The following scan times were achieved in the test:

8.5×11 double sided 15 seconds 300dpi 24bit
8.5×11 single sided 73 seconds 600dpi 24bit
8.5×11 single sided 11 seconds 150dpi greyscale
10 page stack single side 150dpi greyscale 34 seconds
100% Crop Magazine Ad Scan (3.09MB)

At only 2.1 pounds and measuring 11-inches wide, the compactness of Canon’s P-150 is what will appeal to many users. Scan times are quick, resolution is sharp and the ADF (automatic document feeder) had very little trouble in alignment with various paper stocks. This is important, especially in a professional environment, when speed is critical and you don’t want the signatory page of your contract feeding on an angle and getting mangled by the rollers.

Canon P-150 mobile scanner

I found software was its major downfall. Canon has recently added Mac OS X drivers to the product family, however Windows was only available at the time of the test. The CaptureOnTouch software lacked the ability to customize multiple scanning presets for later use. Canon could have invested a little more time in this department. Twain and Isis drivers however do let you use other supported scanning applications, but it’s nice to have a more versatile package straight out of the box.

Bottom Line
Windows, Mac and Linux support is a bonus. The size and design are very appealing and matches the traditional IBM Thinkpad look that many mobile business users have grown accustomed to. Software, if not using third-party applications could be a deal breaker for many. No wall power adapter included, USB or nothing – which is fine for most mobile users.
