The Sony range of Xperia phones will soon be joined by a new budget minded device, if these leaked photos and rumored specifications are found to be genuine.

According to the leak, the S39h will be a 4.3-inch 720p Android phone, and will go on sale in China to compete in the fiercely competitive smartphone market. A full specification sheet hasn’t been made available yet, but tipsters suggest the phone to offer dual-sim support, and either a 5 or 8 mega-pixel rear camera. The Xperia S39h might even end up being powered by a quad-core Mediatek chip, if reports in China are to be believed.

Personally I’m not a fan of the design of the S39h and believe Sony will need to improve their styling to compete with high spec, low-cost phone offered by local Chinese brands. What do you think of the S39h, how does it compare to other Chinese-marketed handsets out there?

Just because you want one of those fancy new Froyo smartphones doesn’t mean that you have to sign a lengthy contract or whip out over $500. The kindly folks at Huawei want to help you keep your budget in check and that’s why they’ve revealed the Huawei Ideos. This smartphone is just $150.

No, that’s not a contract price. That’s the price you pay up front to own the device free and in the clear. It runs on Android 2.2 Froyo out of the box and it is only Android 2.2 device with the “with Google” insignia on its backside. This means that it runs vanilla Android and not some UI overlay like HTC Sense, MOTOBLUR or TouchWiz.

Other features include the 3.2 megapixel camera, WiFi, mobile hotspot support, GPS, Bluetooth, and HSDPA. That’s the good news. The bad news is that the 2.8-inch display, while a capacitive touchscreen, boasts a mere QVGA (320×240) resolution. The processor isn’t a 1GHz number either, only clocking in at 528MHz.

Even so, you’ll be hard pressed to find a brand new smartphone, let alone an Android 2.2 unit, for this kind of price anywhere else. And if you’re curious, the Ideos name stands for Industrial Design Evolution Operating System. Just rolls off the tongue, eh?

At first glance, you may think that the LG GW300 is yet another Windows Mobile smartphone in the same ilk as a Motorola Q or a Samsung Blackjack. That is not the case. It may have a full QWERTY keyboard, but the LG GW300 is just a regular old phone.

Well, that’s not completely fair. The whole point of this QWERTY-packing handset is that it has been built from the ground up as a messaging phone. With the full QWERTY keyboard, you’ll have no problem busting out those e-mail messages and updating your Facebook (using the built-in app).

As a decidedly lower-end phone, the LG GW300 gets a standard 2.4″ QVGA display, Bluetooth, USB 2.0, and GSM/GPRS/EDGE. You won’t find any fancy GPS, 3G, or accelerometers on this puppy. There appears to be a camera, but LG was not forthcoming with the specs.

Information regarding the availability and pricing of the LG GW300 has not been released either, but I’m thinking that it’s going to hit up the lower end of the market (with a price to match) before the end of the year.
