I’m still partial to having a true smartphone these days, but there are many other people who are more interested in cheaper messaging phones with full QWERTY keyboards. If that sounds like you, Boost Mobile has you covered with the Samsung Rant.

If you’re thinking that this phone looks a lot like the Samsung Gravity, you’re not alone. The form factor was unique a few years back, but several other messaging phones have started to take on this style (like the LG Rumor).

In its closed form, you get a regular candybar-style phone with a numeric keypad, but the QWERTY keyboard can slide out of the left side, automatically rotating the display into landscape mode. The two buttons next to the screen make menu access pretty easy too. For the other specs, you get a 2-megapixel camera, 3G connectivity, wireless web access, instant messaging, MP3 player, stereo Bluetooth, GPS, microSD expansion, and a speakerphone. It’s not the most exciting phone in the world, but it’s a good fit for text enthusiasts.

You can expect to pay $150 sans contract for the Samsung Rant when it launches on May 19. While you’re at it, take on the updated Boost Mobile $50 unlimited plan, which includes 411, email, instant messaging, voice, text, and data.

I haven't seen a new Kyocera phone for some time, but it seems that the Japanese company is still around and kicking. The newest phone doesn't carry direct Kyocera branding, per se, but it is the Sanyo Juno by Kyocera and it's heading to Boost Mobile.

From what I can see, the Juno is not a smartphone. Instead, it's another one of those QWERTY-packing messaging phones designed for texting enthusiasts and other people who can't be bothered with full smartphone functionality.

The post Sanyo Juno QWERTY phone gets colorful on Boost Mobile appeared first on Mobile Magazine.

Kyocera Juno in Pink and Blue, from Boost Mobile

I haven’t seen a new Kyocera phone for some time, but it seems that the Japanese company is still around and kicking. The newest phone doesn’t carry direct Kyocera branding, per se, but it is the Sanyo Juno by Kyocera and it’s heading to Boost Mobile.

From what I can see, the Juno is not a smartphone. Instead, it’s another one of those QWERTY-packing messaging phones designed for texting enthusiasts and other people who can’t be bothered with full smartphone functionality. It sure looks like it could be a Windows Mobile handset though, don’t you think?

Clearly catering to a slightly younger demographic, Boost Mobile is offering the Sanyo Juno in your choice of two colors: impulsive pink and deep blue. I guess that’s supposed to be the girl and boy versions of the phone?

The rest of the specs on the phone, aside from the QWERTY keyboard, aren’t that exciting. You get a 1.3 megapixel camera, “fun editing features,” and easy-to-use menu icons on the 2.2-inch display. The one-click texting button is a nice touch, but it’s not really enough phone for me.

Look for the Sanyo Juno at your local Boost Mobile store in the next few weeks, or you can buy it online at boostmobile.com today for $99.99.

The latest rumor on Verizon is that a prepaid BlackBerry data service plan is set to be offered within the next three months.

The latest rumor on Verizon is that a prepaid BlackBerry data service plan is set to be offered within the next three months. We don’t have specifics just yet, but the plan is expected to be $35 on top of your regular voice plan and we don’t expect many BlackBerry variants to be made available at this deal.

This may be the first time Verizon will offer a smartphone in their prepaid package offerings. Most American carriers are reluctant to make prepaid offers appealing and instead prefer long-term contracts that lock you in, empty your pockets and eat your soul.

At Boost Mobile, their $60/month plan includes unlimited nationwide talk, text, web & email with a BlackBerry smartphone.

Boost Mobile today unveiled their first clamshell device, the Sanyo Incognito by Kyocera. At a price of $129.99, the Incognito will be available on Boost’s new Monthly Unlimited plan on Sprint’s 3G CDMA network.

The interesting design of the phone is not the clamshell formfactor, but the mirrored keypad that glows backed by an OLED display. It has a full internal QWERTY keyboard, 2.6-inch display, 2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, GPS and MicroSD card support for up to 16GB.

The $129.99 price is with no-contract and a $50 a month package (excluding taxes) and free shipping from www.boostmobile.com. Best Buy, RadioShack, Target and Walmart will get it in the next few weeks.
