A couple of days ago, I told you about the BookBook case for the iPhone 4 and how it made your smartphone look like a leather-bound tome passed down through the ages. Well, it turns out you can go much bigger, because there’s a BookBook case for the MacBook too.

And yes, it’s made by the same folks at Twelve South. The core functionality is anything but extraordinary, but the outward appearance will certainly help you dodge a thief or two. There aren’t too many people who will want to steal what looks like an old encyclopedia, but there are plenty of crooks eyeing your MacBook. The vintage look remains intact, just in a larger scale than the iPhone version. There’s also a zipper that runs down around the case helping to seal it away from elements. The zipper might be a dead giveaway that this isn’t a real book, but a rushed thief probably won’t look that closely anyhow.

The Twelve South BookBook hardback leather case for MacBook Pro is available in your choice of Vibrant Red or Classic Black and they make them for 13-inch ($79.99), 15-inch ($79.99), and 17-inch ($99.99) MBPs. Whether not an iMac leather bound edition is in the works remains to be seen.

Most iPhone 4 cases try to maintain a certain contemporary look, either through plastic, silicone, or whatever else. This is definitely not one of those cases. Instead, the BookBook case from TwelveSouth is meant to make your iPhone look like a centuries-old leather bound book. And, well, it looks pretty successful at achieving that goal.

It’s almost like you wandered into an ancient monastery on top of the hill and received a glorious old book filled with knowledge passed down through the generations. The distressed embossed leather certainly gives a different feel compared a bright red polyurethane skin, that’s for sure. The case itself is more like a wallet with a few card slots on the other side for your driver’s license and credit cards.

The little red flap at the top kind of ruins the overall appearance, but the leather bound book look will likely help you avoid any would-be iThieves. The BookBook case is available now for $60.

How do you disguise your shiny silver MacBook as a distinguished old piece of what could possibly be a literary masterpiece? The BookBook case from Twelve South.

Although it may not impress the librarian, and any intelligent passer-by may be wondering why you are reading a book sideways, but the BookBook case does have a classy nostalgic look to it. Much more so than your typical neoprene pouches or brightly coloured hardshells we are used to seeing for the MacBooks.

The cases are leather, with antiqueing techniques, a couple zippers hidden as bookmarks makes this quite the alternative case. The BookBook will be available for 13” and 15” MacBooks and MacBook Pros. Traditional black or with red accents are your choices, the price, $79.99 from Twelvesouth.
