Just about everywhere these days has the laws in place that prevent you from using your cell phone while driving, but they generally allow for hands-free devices. And a Bluetooth speakerphone very easily fits that bill. The Motorola Roadster 2 is one such device and it happens to be on sale for $65.74.

While there are people that will likely prefer Bluetooth headsets, I find that using a Bluetooth speakerphone in the car is just more comfortable. The buttons are easier to reach and, clearly, they are also easier to see. The Motorola Roadster 2 easily clips onto your sun visor and if you use the free My MotospeakApp, it will even read out your incoming text messages for you. From there, you can use voice commands to reply or initiate texts.

One major advantage that this has over other similar Bluetooth speakerphones is its power-saving function. The Roadster 2 automatically turns on and connects to your phone when you enter the car, but it also turns itself off when you leave the car. This saves a lot of battery, in case you forget to turn it on and off manually. Should you feel so inclined, it can also be used to stream music from your Bluetooth phone or MP3 player. It can also connect to two phones at the same time and it has a built-in FM transmitter to straem the audio to your car speakers.

The regular price on the Motorola Roadster 2 is a fairly reasonable $99.99, but you can now save $34.25 (34%). Pick it up for $65.74 from Amazon, including free super saver shipping.

There are laws pretty much everywhere these days that say you can’t use your cell phone while driving, but many of these places allow for handsfree calling when you’re behind the wheel. If you don’t want to wear a headset, the Soundfly View from Satechi might be a better fit.

Basically, this is a Bluetooth FM transmitter that will work with just about any car. You plug it in and your music can stream wirelessly from your cell phone to your car speakers. When a call comes in, it’ll switch to that for some handsfree chatting on the road. That’s simple enough; just make sure you keep your cell phone charged up.

Yeah, it’s not exactly private, but it’s a little more versatile than a simple Bluetooth speakerphone. Other features include the 2.0-inch LCD display, which can also be used for caller ID, phonebook, and song information. There’s voice dial too, as well as support for Siri on the iPhone 4S. If you don’t want to stream music from your phone, the SD card slot can presumably be used for tunes too.

The Satechi Soundfly View retails for $79.99.

When it comes to Bluetooth speakerphones, you really want them to just work; offer some decent voice quality, give me some good battery life, and I’m pretty much happy. Apparently, Jabra is not and it wants to differentiate itself from the rest of the handsfree crowd.

Fair enough, but why on Earth would someone cruising down the road be interested in “virtual surround sound” when chatting with colleagues, friends, and loved ones? Do I really want it to sound like the conversation is coming from the back seat rather than hanging out on the sun visor? Do I really want to listen to music through the Jabra Freeway when I have, I don’t know, a car stereo at my disposal?

As far as the pure tech goes, the Jabra Freeway in-car speakerphone has three speakers (to do the virtual surround sound thing), two microphones (for noise cancellation), voice commands, and multiple pairing capabilities. This last feature means that more than one passenger can use the same speakerphone, more or less at the same time… but why would a passenger need a speakerphone? It’s not like they need to keep their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.

Yeah, I guess this device is quite different from other Bluetooth speakerphones, but the differentiating features aren’t exactly things that make me want to buy it. If you feel differently, you can pick one up for $129 starting in May, including a one year subscription to Voice Assist.
