Protests are still going on against Google Glasses, but the search giant is going ahead with their plan and will start manufacturing their wearable computers. Following Apple’s plans to invest $100m in American manufacturing and President Barack Obama’s actions to promote the same, Google is going to make their glasses in the US.

The Google Glasses are going to be produced in a Foxconn factory in Santa Clara, California. At first, the numbers manufactured will be small. If it is found to be a success, the product could be mass produced in China, with the components produced in Asia and assembling happening in California. Moving the manufacturing from the far east to the west for the small scale production will allow them to closely monitor their product for making improvements.

They are planning to churn out prototypes each with a price tag of around $1500 to 8,000 people. Worried about that price tag? Well, Google might go lower than that price, although the “Made in USA” tag will keep the price pretty high (remember Nexus Q?).

So, are you interested in getting one for yourself? Or are you having mixed feelings?

Steve Jobs was certainly an intriguing personality, but he also kept a lot to himself. Much of that gets revealed in the biography written by Walter Isaacson, who was able to get “unprecendented access” to the head iGenius at Apple. And this includes some fascinating insights into his perspective on Android, HP, and more.

These are just snippets, but they give you an idea of what to expect from the fuller book. For example, Jobs said that he was willing to “go thermonuclear war on” Android and its OEM partners. He said that he “will spend my last dying breath if I need to, and I will spend every penny of Apple’s $40 billion in the bank, to right this wrong. I’m going to destroy Android, because it’s a stolen product.”

He said that Hewlett and Packard “built a great company… but now it’s being dismembered and destroyed.” Reflecting back to his side, he continued by saying that he hopes “I’ve left a stronger legacy so that will never happen at Apple.” Similarly, in reflecting on his departure from Apple in the mid-1980s, he said the replacement execs were “corrupt people” with “corrupt values” and they only cared about making money “for themselves… rather than making great products.”

Jobs even comments on his meetings with President Obama, telling him that he’s “headed for a one-term presidency” and that he needed to be more business-friendly. He said that the “regulations and unnecessary costs” make it too difficult to build a factory in the United States, in stark contrast to the relative ease of doing the same in China.

The Steve Jobs biography is available for pre-order now with delivery expected on October 24.

An official document from the Department of Homeland Security has explicitly stated that just about anyone is allowed to take as many photos as they’d like of government buildings. From your iPhone to your Digital Rebel, your shots are fair game.

There have been plenty of stories about photographers having their equipment seized or being told to erase their memory cards by security personnel around the White House and other government buildings. This memo is saying that such “orders” are no longer okay.

It’s saying that “officers should not seize the camera or its contents, and must be cautious not to give ‘orders’ to a photographer to erase the contents of a camera, as this constitutes a seizure or detention.” Score one for the <strike>paparazzi</strike> photogs.
