A smartphone that is extremely light, super attractive and even manages to be organic? Crazy you say? Perhaps it is, but that’s exactly what the Adzero smarpthone is all about. The Adzero isn’t anything new, and first was talked about at the beginning of this year. The big news is that the company behind it – AD Creative – is now gearing up for actual production of this unique bamboo-based smartphone.

The 4.5-inch Android device is 11.8mm thick, though no official word on the weight as of yet. The rest of the specs are actually pretty impressive wit ha 1280 x 720 TFT LCD and a 1.4GHz Exynos quad-core processor with 1GB of RAM. Other specs include an 8MP rear cam, a .3MP front cam, a 2050 mAh battery, Wi-Fi and UMTS/HSPA+. The only bad news is that this is running on ICS instead of Jelly Bean– though ICS is still more than capable as an operating system.

The project isn’t quite here yet but is expected to arrive to Kickstarter in the very near future, giving consumers a chance to get this unique smartphone for $500. For those that don’t want to purchase the device until it has a solid release date, the Adzero is expected to eventually retail for a rather pricey $700– certainly a lot more costly that than the outright price for the new LG Nexus 4. Still, this phone is hard to beat when it comes to its unique look and organic bamboo casing.

This is nothing short of cool looking, but at $700 it is certainly a niche item that might not fit comfortably into everyone’s budget. What do you think of the AD Creative ADzero?

Asus has a series of notebooks that make use of a bamboo finish. I’ve seen laptop cooling stands that are also made of bamboo. If you want to keep taking food away from the pandas, here is another option to add to your office: a full bamboo wireless keyboard and mouse set.

What’s interesting about this keyboard and mouse is that they are made fully of bamboo; there is “almost no plastic” here and the bamboo goes more than skin deep. Because bamboo grows in a tropical environment, it is particularly hardy against humidity. It’s also sustainable, since it grows relatively quickly.

The actual keyboard and mouse aren’t all that exciting with the usual set of keys and buttons. The keyboard has 108 keys, including some shortcuts, while the mouse has a rubber scroll wheel between its two bamboo buttons. Find it on Brando for $82.

There’s more to going green than cutting back on your fuel consumption. You also have to consider the sustainability of the manufacturing process and what you do with the product after it’s reached the end of its life cycle. And that’s where the Phoenix Concept Car comes into the picture.

No, it’s not really as sexy as the Tesla Roadster, but what’s interesting is that the Phoenix has a body that is made of bamboo and rattan, two of the most sustainable materials on Earth.

Made by Kenneth Cobonpue and Albrecht Birkner, the Phoenix looks more like a fancy broom than a usable vehicle. Of course, it’s not made entirely of bamboo and rattan. They’ve also used some steel and carbon fiber for durability, though I’m not sold on how well the natural elements will hold up in a collision.

The other missing component? The engine. There’s no motor in there right now, but I’d imagine that the green philosophy would extend there too. An electric motor might not be such a bad idea, since the heat from internal combustion could, well, combust the bamboo and rattan.

I’ll stick with rattan for furniture and laundry baskets, thanks.

We make a lot of electronic waste these days; upgrading our TVs, cell phones, and notebooks every couple of years. That can't be good for the environment; to help alleviate some of these concerns Asus has announced a new line of laptops that are 100% recyclable.

How did they do this? Well, it seems that the new Asus Ux3 series notebooks (which are based on the Ux5) have been outfitted with a chassis that is completely made of bamboo. The much more sustainable wood is easily sourced and easily recycled.

We make a lot of electronic waste these days; upgrading our TVs, cell phones, and notebooks every couple of years. That can’t be good for the environment; to help alleviate some of these concerns Asus has announced a new line of laptops that are 100% recyclable.

How did they do this? Well, it seems that the new Asus Ux3 series notebooks (which are based on the Ux5) have been outfitted with a chassis that is completely made of bamboo. The much more sustainable wood is easily sourced and easily recycled.

This isn’t the first time that Asus has launched out a series of bamboo-made laptops, but I think this is the first time that the entire chassis is made of the panda food item. In terms of specs, you get Intel Core i5 450M for your processor, along with NVIDIA 310M graphics, USB 3.0 ports, 2GB RAM, and a 500GB hard drive. Asus is more than happy to sell you a new notebook as often as you’re willing to buy one, so I guess this whole “recycle me when you’re done” gimmick helps to alleviate some of the environmental stress. I don’t know how the chips inside or the LCD display get recycled aside from the traditional extraction and meltdown method, but they are saying that the whole thing can be taken care of.

Expect prices on this more environmentally-conscious notebook to start in the $1,300 range.
