Just the other day we reported on the Pit Bull hoverboard prop from Back to the Future 2 being listed on Ebay, now we are back with more news regarding one of the most iconic time travel movies ever released.

It seems that after more than a year of work on the effort, the original DeLorean time machine from the Back to the Future series has now been fully restored and put on display at Universal Studios in Hollywood.

The car on display was referred to as “Hero A” and was actually one of three models used in filming, and was primarily used for shots with the actors themselves, while B and C were used mostly for stunts and interior shots.

While this was pretty much a complete restoration of everything already in place for Hero A, they did unfortunately have to fully replace the front flux bands for the time machine, as the old ones were just too worn.

Luckily they were able to use mostly original materials and the end result looked identical to what was seen in the movie.

Anyhow, check out the video below for footage that takes you for a closer look at this fully restored DeLorean “Time Machine”.

Is it ‘back to the future’ time for Delorean Motor Company (DMC) and their cult sports car DMC-12?

The company went bankrupt in 1982, but the DMC-12, with its the gull-wing doors, is still revered by the generation who grew up driving gas guzzlers and watching the Hollywood flick Back to the future which, by the way, featured this car as a convertible time machine.

The new DMC-12, which will be brought out next year, will not have a fuel tank, but a charging plug inside the front grill. The upgraded model was put on display at this year’s New York International Auto Show.

The rear side of the new DMC will be all about storage, of power that is. The engine is replaced by a 32-kWh lithium-ion phosphate battery pack, which is capable of pushing the car to a top speed of 125 miles per hour and a range of 100 miles.

Of course, this futuristic DMC, which I repeat is not a time machine as of now, costs a mega $95,000.

Australian Chris Malloy has designed a hoverbike prototype right in his garage. The hoverbike hasn’t done much but hover while tethered to the ground, but Malloy is extremely optimistic that the bike will be able to travel at speeds of up to 173 mph at 10,000 feet. He’s set his sights pretty high. According to Malloy, the hoverbike could potentially travel even higher, but then users would have to carry oxygen.

Malloy hopes to gain some funding so he can work on the prototype full time and do a test drive without being tied to the ground. You can donate through his website, and he has almost $70,000 donated and is aiming for over a million. If the bike makes it to production, it would be classified as an ultralight aircraft, which means that users wouldn’t need a pilot’s license to ride it. If this is the case, the two explosive parachutes attached to the airframe better come with every single bike.

The hoverbike engine is air-cooled and runs on regular unleaded fuel. One tank gives a range of about 92 miles. Malloy is estimating the hoverbike will cost at least $40,000 per unit, but with higher demand the price would drop. Like other ultralight aircrafts, using the hoverbike in the city would be a bad idea. Malloy suggests applications could include search and rescue, aerial survey, power-line inspection and military and emergency services.

It’s that time of year again. The holiday shopping season is upon us and I think I might have found the perfect gift for the 80s movie buff on your list. It’s cool enough that this is a pretty good replica of the Delorean from Back to the Future. It’s even better than it’s actually functional too.

That’s because the scale model actually hads a fully-functional 500GB portable hard drive inside. In addition to geeking out on your memories of Doc Brown and Marty McFly (when are we finally going to get those awesome hoverboards?), you can store your favorite movies, music, and documents on there too.

The Delorean replica is built on a 1:18 scale and it has moving parts too, including both gull-wing doors and the hood. The USB connector is in the back. Expect to pay a hefty $250 for this piece of geekdom.

Another down side? It doesn’t come with a flux capacitor and seeing how it only has a USB 2.0 connection, you might have a hard time reaching the required 88mph to hit the jump.
The first DeLorean DMC was made in 1981 by John DeLorean, about 9000 rolled off the lot and into the hands, or driveways, of drivers. DeLorean was a brilliant engineer, one of the cool ones, not your typical lab coat type. So cool that he ran into drug smuggling problems and the whole business went down with him. Regardless, he got off on his charges, as all cool engineers do, but by then no one was interested in the car anymore.

Steven Wynn, president of DeLorean Motor Car Company, is the new man behind the name , and bringing the defunct vehicle back from the dead and into production again. He plans to fix the troubles the DMC DeLorean had encountered in its original production and give it new enhancements for today’s touring car market.

The original engine offered 135 horsepower, the new one will be 195 horsepower. New suspension technology, brakes, leather dash and a stainless steel chasis will also be offered. Of course, in order to convince buyers that it is a “new” model, the DeLorean DMC 12 will have HD and satellite radio, iPod interface, satellite navigation, and Bluetooth. Sadly, this model will not use left over beer and bananas for fuel.
