They are calling it the “tablet for the cooking enthusiast”. The Archos ChefPad is an Android 4.1 running tablet that is meant to be used in the kitchen, although no one is going to stop from using it in the garden or elsewhere.

The slate is coming with Chef Apps Zone which will filter through the Play Store to bring you cooking apps. The device features a 1.6GHz dual-core CPU and 1GB of RAM, which should be enough for your selection of apps to work fine, and a 9.7 inch 1024×768 screen.

With the 8GB of storage, you can add a lot of cooking related stuff including cooking lessons which will guide you through your cooking experiments via a pair of speakers. You can even save your own speeches about that special soup all thanks to the built-in mic and take snaps of your spicy salmon with the device’s 2MP cam, and maybe send your works to Gordon Ramsay.

And coming with the tablet is a waterproof silicone case and an adjustable stand which will be very useful while you are video chatting while cooking. The device will be available next month with a price tag of $210. Are you interested?

Archos might not be the most exciting tablet maker around, but it is one of the most affordable. The budget maker is constantly churning out new Android devices so the announcement of four new tablets at CES this year is less than surprising.

The new “Titanium” line is made up of four devices that all have IPS capacitive multi-touch displays with dual-core 1.6GHz CPUs and quad-core GPUs running on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The big difference in the line is the screen size, which starts at $119 for a 7-incher up to $199 for a 10.1-incher.

As you probably already guessed, there is no actual titanium involved in the line, the name instead refers to their “strong” specs considering their price tags.

A dual-core 1.6GHz Android tablet with a 10.1-inch screen for $200 certainly sounds impressive, but many times Archos tablets sound better on paper than what you actually get when you see and test them in person. Still, it’s hard to beat the low-pricing on this line up. For more details, check out the press release below.

The iPad has dominated the tablet market ever since the tablet was first released in April of 2010. Many a manufacturer have tried to strip that name from Apple, but instead of becoming the “next big thing”, most just turn out to be market fillers.

The Archos 97 Titanium HD is likely just one of these “attempts” that won’t do much but might still be a more affordable option for those with basic needs. The Titanium HD comes with a 9.7″ display packing 2048 x 1536 pixels (264 pixels per inch). If you’re familiar, those specs are identical to that of the newest iPad. The rest of the specs come in as follows:

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

5MP rear camera

2MP front-facing camera

1.6GHz dual-core A9 processor

quad-core GPU (Mali 400 MP4)

1GB of RAM

8GB of internal memory

MicroSD (up to 64GB)

640 grams, 240 mm x 184 mm x 9 mm

With the tablet market moving fast away from expensive tablets and more into cheap tablets like the Nexus 7, how does Archos expect something with these high-end specs to survive? Especially considering that consumers generally think of Archos as a budget brand? Hopefully, this means we will be seeing the Titanium HD with a sub-$400 price tag.

Do you think the Archos 97 Titanium HD has a chance against the iPad? Would you buy it over other Android and iOS tablets if it was priced very aggressively or not?

At the end of August, we alerted you of the Archos GamePad. Archos claims that it is “the first true Android games console”. With a price tag of just £129.99 ($208) and the specs to back it up, the GamePad may be the gaming tablet of the Holiday Season 2012.

In a press release on Thursday, Archos put the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean gaming tablet up for sale. The main focus of the device is to hit the Android market in which Android users spend over 9 hours a month gaming. Furthermore, the Acer GamePad has the following specs:

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

Google Play and Google Mobile Services

7″ 1024 x 600 pixel display

14 physical buttons and dual “analogue” sticks

1.6GHz dual-core processor

Mali 400mp quad-core GPU

10 mm (0.3 inch) thin body

Weight of 330g (0.7 lbs)

The Archos GamePad will also sport a completely new mapping tool for games. As you can see in the video below, the tool makes it incredibly easy to integrate the GamePad’s physical controls with touchscreen games. Take a look:

Another day, another ARCHOS tablet. Sure seems like they pump these out on a near-daily basis.

The newest member to the ARCHOS tablet family is the ARCHOS 97 Xenon, an entry-level unit sporting a 9.7-inch 10248×768 resolution screen. What kind of processing power can you expect with the Xenon? A single-core 1.4GHz and just 512MB of RAM- yes really. Other specs include a 2MP rear cam, VGA front-facing one, WIFI connectivity and Android 4.0 ICS. Let’s be honest, these are awful. Even those with modest knowledge about hardware will understand that 512MB is shameful for a tablet these days, it is barely acceptable on an entry-level smartphone even. That being said, I suspect this will be an extremely wallet-friendly device.

There aren’t too many low-cost tablets outside of the 7-inch realm but, with these specs, Archos could likely pull off a reasonably low price tag. Right now we don’t have any official pricing, but I’d be very shocked if it’s tag is anything over $250. Personally I wouldn’t pay much over $175 for something with such low-powered performance. What about you? Would you consider a 10-inch ARCHOS if it can maintain a price between $150-$200, or would you rather get a more powerful 7-incher like the Nexus 7 or Kindle Fire HD?

Tablet gaming is a bit of a mixed bag. Many casual games work perfect with touch systems, but core games often suffer from somewhat finicky touch controls that are far from ideal. Archos hopes to solve that though. How?

Archos is getting involved in the gaming world with its own 7-inch Android gaming tablet, the “GamePad”. What’s in store for the new tablet? We certainly don’t know everything about it’s specs yet. What we do know is the tablet is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, has a 1280×800 resolution, integrated Mali-400MP quad-core GPU.

The true impressive elements come with the built-in controller which has a D-PAD, ABXY buttons, and two analog sticks. Archos GamePad is built on Android 4.0 and has its own mapping software to add controller support for games that traditionally don’t offer it. The software is supposed to recognize things on its own, making it fairly plug and play.

This isn’t the first tablet announced with a built-in controller, with one of the most well-know efforts being the WikiPad. The big difference here is that WikiPad still doesn’t have any announced release date, the GamePad is now expected at the end of October.

Right now, Google Play has about 1000 apps that will support GamePad controls, and of course there are also traditional console game emulators. The GamePad is expected to start at €150 (roughly $200). Considering no U.S. Price was mentioned, it’s unclear whether this thing will only launch in Europe, or if it’s heading to the states as well.

With their smaller screen sizes and personal design, a tablet might seem like its meant for one person, not a family. While early tablets tended to function only as a business tool used by one individual, the advent of app stores, and the games and programs that come with it, have changed all of this. Many families share tablets, whether its an iPad or a 7-inch Android device.

When it comes to sharing a tablet for the whole family, 7-inch, 9.7-inch or even 10.1-inch might be a little restrictive. Most families tend to stick to these sizes though because they are readily available and are the most affordable option. Sure, bigger screen tablets like the Excite 13 do exist, but at a premium price. This is where Archos steps in. Archos might not be the most popular brand around, but they are known for sticking to relatively budget-friendly price points. A new FCC filing suggests that Archos is preparing for a larger-screen tablet with family sharing and use in mind- the 13.3-inch Archos FamilyPad.

The specs on the tablet are nothing to get excited about, but they are certainly functional enough for most apps out there right now. The FamilyPad is powered by an AllWinner A10 1.5Ghz processor and has 8 or 16GB storage, WIFI, an SD card for expansion, two USB ports and a front-facing camera. At the moment there is no word about pricing or which markets this might hit, but it could certainly be worth keeping an eye out for. While this certainly isn’t a portable device you’d want to lug around everywhere, it could be great for pairing up with a kickstand and using around the house.

While this might be more expensive than typical Archos budget devices, the specs suggest it won’t likely have an extremely high price tag, even if it is a larger screen that usually. How much? That’s hard to say. While the 13-inch Excite is $650, it also has the power of Tegra 3, instead of this basic 1.5Ghz chip. I’d say it is more than likely going to hit at under $400, maybe even under $350. Keep in mind that’s just a semi-educated guess.

If this thing manages to be affordable enough, would you consider a 13.3-inch tablet for the family?

Archos was making tablets well before it was popular to do so, but it has fallen somewhat to the wayside in recent years. A big part of this has to do with the fact that many Archos Android tablets didn’t have access to the Google Play Store, then known as Android Market. That has since changed and we’re seeing a whole new ELEMENTS line of tablets, starting with the Archos 97 Carbon.

As its name implies, the 97 Carbon features a 9.7-inch 5X multitouch IPS screen. There’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich under the hood and, thankfully, there is full access to Google Play and the full suite of Google apps right out of the box. Power comes by way of a 1GHz processor and 1GB of RAM. The 16GB model has the same $249.99 retail price as the 16GB Nexus 7, but the 97 Carbon also has a microSD expansion slot and a full-sized USB host port. It has the bigger screen too, as mentioned.

More information can be found on the official page on the Archos website. Expect the Archos 97 Carbon to launch later this month.

One of the best things about Android devices is that they come in all kinds of shapes and sizes, and what you see above is one of the two landline based DECT cordless Android powered phones from Motorola. The question is, what’s the point? Everyone has cell phones these days and we’re not sure where the market is for something like this.

Regardless, the two devices are named the HS1101 and MBP2000PU, they run Ice Cream Sandwich OS and feature a 3.2 inch LCD display with a resolution of 400 x 240. The Wi-Fi-equipped handsets are virtually identical, differing only in color – while one is silver and white, the other one is glossy black. The phones are also coming with a front-facing cam with video capture, stereo 1.5-watt speakers, microSD storage, micro-USB and a standard headphone port. You will be able to download apps, while a few like Aldiko E-book Reader and a Digital Answer Machine come preloaded. Ok, so maybe they will be good for video calls over Wi-Fi. But we have to admit, when it comes to the design, the devices do not look that pretty. They certainly appear to have the qualities to be smart home phones. Those who haven’t yet abandoned their landlines can check the devices out, and since they have just passed through the FCC, we are expecting both models to arrive sometime soon.

Just to let you know, Archos also has a home phone that run Android, but it is running the now ancient Froyo.

Archos has done a pretty good job creating a niche of budget devices like tablets, specifically those under the Arnova branding. The Archos Arnova 9 G3 is supposed to continue the company’s tradition of low-price tablets, but this time around it will come packed with Android 4.0 ICS. Today it showed up at the FCC website, which is probably a pretty good sign that it is about to hit stores sooner rather than latter.

For those looking for a budget device that has ICS, this could fit the bill, but don’t expect a power house. Not too long ago Arnova 9 G2 was introduced and one of my only complaints was that it was a little short in the storage department thanks to just 8GB of space. So was this addressed with the G3? Actually, the G3 has a staggeringly small amount of space at 4GB. Beyond the small storage space it features a 9.7 inch 1024 x 768 pixel IPS display, a 1 GHz Rockchip RK2918 single core processor, and a fairly impressive 1GB of RAM. I’m assuming this device will have SD expansion, and so the 4GB shouldn’t prove a deal-breaker but I personally think they should have at least stuck with 8GB at minimum. At the same time, these are largely budget devices and for the casual crowd they are targeted at, this meager storage might prove enough. I also have to admit that (outside of storage) the G3 does have a lot to offer over the older model, such as ICS for one thing. If this thing can come out at around $249, there would be many happy tableters out there.
